NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Saturday, November 16th (All times Eastern)

Brooklyn Nets (3-5) at Los Angeles Clippers (6-3), 10:30 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers have won three straight and will try to continue their winning ways on this homestand Saturday night when the Brooklyn Nets head to Staples Center.

The Clips started their win streak with a road victory over the Houston Rockets, then toppled the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder at home.

Those are three playoff teams the Clippers toppled. L.A. leads the NBA in scoring, but is 29th in opponents' scoring.

Against the Thunder on Wednesday, in a game that got scrappy between Matt Barnes and Serge Ibaka, the Clippers held the Thunder, who owned a nine-point halftime lead, to just 41 points in the second half.

"They had zero transition points in the third quarter. I mean, that's who we can be for 48 minutes," said Clippers head coach Doc Rivers. "We're just not there yet. The good part about that was that we were down and you've got to show something to do that and thought we did that tonight."

Blake Griffin, who got in the altercation that precipitated the Ibaka/Barnes scuffle, led the way with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Chris Paul had 14 points and 16 assists and he became the first player since Magic Johnson in the 1990-91 to start the season with a double-double in his first nine games.

DeAndre Jordan and J.J. Redick scored 15 points each for the Clips, followed by 20 from Jamal Crawford and 10 from Jared Dudley.

For Rivers, he will play Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett for the first time since the trio was all together in Boston. Rivers came to Los Angeles to coach and Pierce and Garnett were traded to the Nets.

"I try not to think about it because it's going to be strange," acknowledged Rivers. "They're very close to me, obviously. I know I would like to beat them because they'd like to beat me."

The Nets snapped a three-game losing streak on Friday with a 100-98 overtime victory in Phoenix over the Suns. Joe Johnson hit a game-winning layup as time expired to give Brooklyn its first road win of the season.

Deron Williams played only 4:40 before leaving the game with a sprained left ankle.

Head coach Jason Kidd played all 13 players available.

"Everybody touched the floor tonight. I used everybody and everybody did something that helped put us in a position to win. We trust each other. We came out in the third quarter and had our best quarter of the year," said Kidd. "Guys fought to go up, then we lose the lead then we come back and find a way to win."

Brook Lopez led the Nets with 27 points. Shaun Livingston scored 18 points playing in place of Williams and Pierce added 14 points. Garnett scored only four points, but pulled down 14 rebounds.

The Nets have taken five of the last seven against the Clippers, but the Clips have won two in a row at home.
