NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Sunday, January 27th (All times Eastern)

Atlanta Hawks (25-18) at New York Knicks (26-15), 6:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The New York Knicks have fared particularly well at home under coach Mike Woodson and look to feed off the Madison Square Garden crowd Sunday night versus the Atlanta Hawks.

The Knicks are 24-6 under Woodson at Madison Square Garden, including a 14-6 record this season, but were handed a 97-80 loss Saturday night in Philadelphia. The Knicks were outscored in the first three quarters and were victims of a 31-17 difference in the third stanza.

Sixers point guard Jrue Holiday went off for a career-high 35 points, while Carmelo Anthony paced the Knicks with 25 points. Anthony made only 9-of-28 from the floor for a New York squad that showed barely any life and shot 34.6 percent. The Knicks made only 4-of-27 3-pointers.

"We didn't come to compete tonight and that was disappointing," Woodson said.

Amare Stoudemire was the only other Knick with 10 or more points and finished with 20. The Knicks have lost five of eight games and still lead the Atlantic.

New York will also welcome Orlando, Milwaukee, Sacramento and Detroit to MSG on this upcoming homestand. Knicks veteran guard Jason Kidd is still 13 assists shy of 12,000 in his career and Anthony has failed to score 20 or more points only once this season.

Anthony has scored 20-plus points in 28 straight games.

Atlanta aims to push its winning streak to four games Sunday and made it three in row with a 123-111 double-overtime triumph versus Boston two nights ago.

The Hawks persevered through a 27-point deficit and pulled away in the second overtime, 16-4. Kyle Korver seemed unconscious beyond the arc and nailed a career-high eight 3-pointers en route to 27 points. Al Horford added 24 with 13 rebounds and Jeff Teague scored 23 points for the Hawks, who are averaging 110.3 ppg during the winning streak.

"Guys did a good job helping me get open and passing to the right spots," said Korver, who leads the NBA in 3-point percentage (.471). "I don't create shots on my own ... so I have to give my teammates a lot of credit."

Josh Smith had 17 points and 14 boards in a winning effort. Horford is averaging 12.3 rebounds over his last six games played for an Atlanta team that will start a two-game homestand Wednesday versus Toronto.

The Hawks are 10-11 as the visitor this season and 17-4 when scoring 100 or more points.

Atlanta and New York are meeting for the first time since the Knicks took two of three meetings a season ago. The Knicks have won seven of 10 against the Hawks, losers in two straight and three of four trips to MSG.
