NBA Game Summary - Philadelphia at New Orleans

    (Wednesday, November 7th)

Final Score: Philadelphia 77, New Orleans 62

New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Jrue Holiday posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 assists and Evan Turner added 14 points and eight rebounds to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 77-62 win over the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday.

Thaddeus Young also notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards and Lavoy Allen chipped in with 12 points for the Sixers, who bounced back from back-to-back losses to the Knicks.

Spencer Hawes added 11 points, six rebounds and three blocks in the win.

"We were just so hesitant in the first half, we were passing up shots then trying to pass the ball in an area where we had no place to go," Sixers coach Doug Collins said. "We were so out of sync in the first half we had 14 turnovers and I told our guys that last year we had a playoff game and we only have a total of five for the game. We were just careless, but in the second half we had nine straight stops."

Al-Farouq Aminu scored a team-high 10 points and pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds and Ryan Anderson donated nine points and 10 boards for the Hornets, who were without rookies Anthony Davis and Austin Rivers.

"My first thought is we didn't have the same juice that we normally have," New Orleans coach Monty Williams said. "I've told our guys since we've been here that there's one way that we play, and there's one way that we're going to be successful, especially when we have guys out. We have to play with more force. I didn't see that tonight."

Both teams got off to a slow start in the first. The Hornets missed their first six shots, but bounced back with a 12-6 run to take a 19-16 lead after one. Jason Smith, who spent three season with the Sixers, scored all eight of his points in the frame.

The Sixers outscored New Orleans, 20-18, in the second but entered the break trailing 37-36. Philadelphia shot 52.9 percent from the floor in the quarter while the Hornets were just 6-for-17 from the field and 0-for-4 from behind the 3-point line.

Philadelphia stepped it up defensively in the third, holding the Hornets to just 10 points on 4-for-15 shooting. The Sixers missed 14 shots in the period, but were able to take a 57-47 lead into the fourth.

The Sixers jumped out to a 23-point lead in the fourth quarter after outscoring the Hornets 20-7 over the first nine minutes of the quarter. The Hornets scored the final eight points of the game to account for the final margin.

    Game Notes

The Sixers forced 24 turnovers, leading to 26 points ... Philadelphia was without Kwame Brown (calf strain) and Jason Richardson (ankle sprain) ... The Hornets shot just 33.3 percent from the field in the game and were a dreadful 4-for-19 from behind the 3-point line.
