NBA Game Summary - Utah at Orlando

    (Sunday, December 23rd)

Final Score: Utah 97, Orlando 93

Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Jamaal Tinsley, starting in place of an injured Mo Williams, hit a go-ahead 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter as the Utah Jazz came back and beat the Orlando Magic, 97-93, at Amway Center.

Tinsley finished with 11 points and four assists and was one of six Jazz players scoring in double figures. Paul Millsap led the way with 18 points, while Gordon Hayward added 17 on 7-of-10 shooting.

The Jazz, who trailed by as many as 16, split their four-game road trip despite Williams sitting Sunday due to an injury to his right thumb, which will keep him out indefinitely.

Arron Afflalo paced the Magic with 20 points, but shot just 3-of-12 from the field following a 13-point opening quarter. Nikola Vucevic totaled 16 points and 16 rebounds, while J.J. Redick and Jameer Nelson each netted 14 points in the loss, Orlando's second straight since losing Glen Davis to a shoulder injury.

"We miss him, but I still think we did a pretty good job defensively and we did play well on both ends of the court tonight. We just had some turnovers down the stretch that hurt us," Vucevic said.

Redick's fadeaway broke an 85-85 tie with 3:30 remaining, but the sharpshooter missed from long range the next time down. Tinsley followed with a go-ahead 3- pointer, then created a fastbreak with a steal that resulted in a Randy Foye trifecta and a 91-87 advantage.

Nelson cut the deficit to one with a make from the right corner before Millsap went 1-for-2 at the line. Redick lost the ball driving the basket, but Orlando got the ball back when Nelson won a jump ball.

After misses at both ends, the Magic called timeout with 29.8 seconds on the clock. Afflalo missed out of the break, and two Foye free throws made it a 94-90 affair. Redick's rainbow 3-pointer gave the Magic life, and another 1- for-2 trip to the stripe from Millsap made it a two-point game with 10.1 left.

Nelson dribbled down and drew three defenders at the perimeter before passing down low to an open Gustavo Ayon. Foye recovered and issued a hard foul, and Ayon, who was making his first start of the season, had his first free throw rim out. With just 2.4 ticks remaining, Ayon missed the second intentionally, and Tinsley grabbed the rebounds and sank two free throws to seal the win.

"They did a great job on the boards tonight, but we just made them work for everything in the second half and wound up coming out on top," Tinsley said.

The Magic scored 13 straight points spanning the first and second quarter to take their biggest lead at 34-18, but the hosts saw their gap close after making just one field goal over the final 5 1/2 minutes of the half.

Utah's subsequent 15-3 run, capped by Millsap's late tip-in, pulled the Jazz within 47-46 at halftime, and Al Jefferson's bucket early in the second half gave the visitors their first lead at 50-49.

Orlando answered with 12 of the next 14 points to seemingly regain control, but again the Jazz ended the quarter on a flurry and cut its deficit to 73-71 heading to the fourth.

Derrick Favors capped a 7-0 run to start the fourth quarter with a three-point play that gave the Jazz a 78-73 lead, and it stayed close the rest of the way.

    Game Notes

The Jazz, who lost to the Heat on Saturday, are 3-5 on the second game of a back-to-back ... Utah has rallied from double-digit deficits eight times this season ... Jefferson (12 points), Favors (12) and Foye (10) rounded out Utah's top scorers ... Utah outscored the Magic at the foul line, 18-8 ... Orlando turned it over 20 times, leading to 22 points.
