Description: Right-hander Dan Straily was sent to the Chicago Cubs as part of the deal to "rent" Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel.
Insight: The 25-year-old Straily has talent and should make his way into the Cubs rotation.

Hot9/7/2013 9:15:00 PM
Description: Oakland starter Dan Straily two-hit the Astros over seven shutout innings Saturday night to win his ninth game of the season.
Insight: Straily has gone 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA over his last three starts and has lowered his ERA from 4.56 to 4.15 in the process.

8/12/2013 2:55:00 PM
Description: Oakland starter Dan Straily will come away with a no-decision on Monday afternoon, but he pitched much better than he had in his previous three outings.
Insight: Straily allowed six hits and one earned run over 7 1/3 innings at Toronto. He's not a big strikeout guy and has limited fantasy value.

Cold8/6/2013 9:57:00 PM
Description: Oakland pitcher Dan Straily failed to get out of the fifth inning Tuesday for the third straight start.
Insight: Straily allowed six hits and two earned runs over four innings at Cincinnati and has a 4.41 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP this season. Straily has been a disaster with men on base, stranding just 66.6 percent of his baserunners this season.

7/3/2013 7:48:00 PM
Description: Oakland pitcher Dan Straily will be recalled to start Thursday's game against the Cubs.
Insight: The team is pushing Jarrod Parker (hamstring) back to Saturday. Straily is 4-2 with a 5.00 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 66 2/3 innings with the A's this season.

6/23/2013 10:20:00 PM
Description: After allowing 14 hits and eight earned runs over eight innings in his last two starts, Oakland pitcher Dan Straily has been sent to Triple-A Sacramento.
Insight: According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Straily is expected to be recalled when the Athletics need a fifth starter again, which won't come until the second week of July because Oakland has three off days in the next eight days.

6/18/2013 10:03:00 AM
Description: Athletics starter Dan Straily gave up eight hits (two HR) and six earned runs over 4 2/3 innings Monday at Texas.
Insight: After being swept at home in four games by the Toronto Blue Jays, the Rangers predictably came ready to play Monday. Straily has a 3.56 FIP and a 1.14 WHIP, but his strand rate is just 58 percent and his ERA is 4.97.

Hot6/13/2013 9:53:00 AM
Description: Athletics starter Dan Straily limited the Yankees to two runs on three hits and struck out three with one walk over 6 2/3 innings Wednesday night.
Insight: Straily is 3-0 with a 2.20 ERA and a 0.77 WHIP over 32 2/3 innings in his last five starts. He'll remain in the rotation until Brett Anderson returns and has decent upside.

6/1/2013 9:58:00 PM
Description: Athletics starter Dan Straily struck out eight batters, walked none and allowed one run on six hits over six innings Saturday against the White Sox.
Insight: Straily has won three games in a row and allowed just two earned on 12 hits over 19 innings in the process. He has lowered his ERA from 7.27 to 4.60 in that span and has a 1.13 WHIP this season. He'll continue to start while Brett Anderson (stress fracture) is sidelined.

4/29/2013 4:56:00 PM
Description: The Athletics have recalled Dan Straily from Triple-A to start Monday against the Angels.
Insight: Brett Anderson (ankle) is being skipped in the rotation after allowing 20 hits and 17 earned runs in 10 2/3 innings over his last three starts. Straily led the minors in strikeouts last season and struck out 11 Astros on April 5 in his lone start this season, but he'll likely head back to Triple-A after Monday's outing.

4/6/2013 11:05:00 AM
Description: Despite a no walk, 11-strikeout 6 2/3 innings against Houston, Athletics right-hander Dan Straily will be sent to the minors.
Insight: Of course facing the Astros lineup is like facing a Triple-A team. Straily lost the battle for the No. 5 spot in the rotation to A.J. Griffin and likely won't be seen again this season until September or injury.

2/15/2013 8:27:00 PM
Description: Athletics right-hander Dan Straily will compete with A.J. Griffin for the final spot in Oakland's rotation. SOURCE: Athletics.com
Insight: Only Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, R.A. Dickey, Clayton Kershaw, Felix Hernandez and James Shields had more strikeouts in professional baseball than Straily last season. The 24-year-old whiffed 222 across three levels. He attributed a lack of fastball command to giving up 11 homers in 39 1/3 big league innings and would certainly be of mixed league interest if he wins the rotation spot.

9/6/2012 10:23:00 PM
Description: Athletics starter Dan Straily was scratched from his playoff start with Triple-A Sacramento, and he flew to Seattle with the big league club, according to Joe Stiglich of the Bay Area News Group. Straily was demoted to the minors when Brett Anderson came off the DL, but he's a likely candidate to replace Brandon McCarthy in the rotation.
Insight: Straily went 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in three starts in August. He has 190 strikeouts in 152 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. Owners in deeper mixed leagues should add the 23-year-old; the A's have had major success bringing up young starters this season.

8/20/2012 5:56:00 PM
Description: Athletics starter Dan Straily was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento Monday to make room on the roster after Brett Anderson's activation from the 60-day disabled list.
Insight: Straily, a 23-year-old right-hander, dominated in two of his three big league starts after leading the minor leagues in strikeouts this season. The A's rotation is simply too crowded for him.

8/5/2012 12:09:00 PM
Description: Athletics starter Dan Straily held Toronto to one run on five hits while striking out five and walking one in his first career start Friday and it's likely he'll remain in the rotation even when Brandon McCarthy returns. A.J. Griffin injured his shoulder Saturday and McCarthy is expected to fill the vacancy.
Insight: Straily, a 23-year-old right-hander, registered a 175/37 K/BB ratio in 138 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A this season. He should be picked up in deeper leagues due to his upside.

8/2/2012 5:33:00 PM
Description: The Athletics have called up pitching prospect Dan Straily to start Friday.
Insight: Straily, a 23-year-old right-hander, registered a 175/37 K/BB ratio in 138 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A this season. He's someone to target in deeper mixed leagues, though he may be optioned again when Brandon McCarthy and Brett Anderson rejoin the rotation later this month.
