    Number  84
    Position  1B
    Bats  L
    Throws  R
    9/24/2014 12:40:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder (neck surgery in May) has begun to swing a bat, according to a Fort Worth Star-Telegram report.
Insight: He's also begun lifting weights. Barring any setbacks he should be 100 percent ready to go next spring.

    5/22/2014 6:38:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder will have neck surgery on Tuesday. He'll need 3-to-4 months of recovery time, which means he'll likely miss the rest of the season. SOURCE: Anthony Andro, Fox Sports Southwest
Insight: It's devastating news for fantasy owners. For Texas, it's even worse as the Rangers have almost no chance of catching the A's without Fielder hitting cleanup every night. He'll finish the year with three homers, 16 RBI and a .247 average across 150 at bats. Mitch Moreland (.275, 2 HR, 15 RBI) will serve as the everyday first baseman in his absence.

    5/22/2014 3:10:00 PM
Description: Texas first baseman Prince Fielder could end up needing season-ending surgery for his herniated disc in the neck after visiting a specialist on Thursday.
Insight: He's sat out the last four games due to the neck injury. He's been one of the biggest disappointments this season batting .247 with just three homers and 16 RBI. That means more starts at first base for Mitch Moreland (.286, 2 HR, 15 RBI).

    5/21/2014 12:12:00 PM
Description: Texas first baseman Prince Fielder won't play in Wednesday's series finale. SOURCE: Rangers on Twitter
Insight: He's sat out the last four games with a herniated disc in his neck. That means another start at first base for Mitch Moreland (.294, 2 HR, 15 RBI).

    5/20/2014 5:00:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder (neck) has been scratched from Tuesday's lineup, according to Richard Durrett of espn.com.
Insight: Fielder has a herniated disc in his neck which is now causing arm weakness. He may be back Wednesday.

    5/17/2014 4:42:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder has a herniated disc in his neck and will miss at least two games, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Fielder received an injection Saturday and won't need surgery.
Insight: A frustrating season just got worse. The 30-year-old has hit .247 with three homers, 16 RBI and a .720 OPS in 150 at-bats with his new team. He has a career-high 50.4 percent ground-ball rate, which is not what you want out of a power hitter.

    5/4/2014 10:29:00 PM
Description: Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, two walks and three runs scored Sunday against the Angels
    Insight: Fielder's strikeout and walk rates (12.6 K%, 14.1 BB%) are back to peak levels this season but he has a career-high 52.6 percent ground-ball rate and a career-low 7.4 percent HR/FB.

    4/26/2014 1:48:00 PM
Description: Rangers 1B Prince Fielder is 0-for-8 with four strikeouts against Seattle ace Felix Hernandez.
Insight: Fielder has struggled with his new team, batting .214 with just two homers and seven RBI. Saturday's matchup doesn't figure to help.

    4/18/2014 10:38:00 AM
Description: Rangers 1B Prince Fielder is 4-for-8 with a pair of homers and five walks against White Sox starter Felipe Paulino.
Insight: Fielder has struggled with his new team, but appears to be finiding his stroke. He's 4-for-14 over his last four games, including his first homer of the season.

    4/15/2014 10:35:00 PM
Description: Rangers 1B Prince Fielder hit his first homer of the season Tuesday.
Insight: Fielder is batting .185 with nine Ks and seven BBs. His bat slowed down last season and he displayed reduced plate discipline. Moving to a better hitters park in Texas won't do anything to reverse that decline, but he should be able to put up solid numbers once he gets out of his slump.

    4/8/2014 10:19:00 AM
Description: Rangers 1B Prince Fielder appears to be pressing early in the season and is batting just .148 without a home run.
Insight: Fielder has been chasing a few pitches out of the strike zone of late, but that will eventually stop. His Tuesday matchup, however, is unfavorable and he should be avoided. He's 0-for-6 against Boston left-hander Felix Doubront.

    11/20/2013 8:40:00 PM
Description: According to cbssports.com's Jon Heyman, the Tigers and Rangers have agreed to swap Prince Fielder for Ian Kinsler, pending physicals. Fielder also has to waive his limited no-trade clause that includes Texas, but he's expected to do so.
Insight: Fielder is coming off a down year in which he hit .279 with 25 homers, 106 RBI and an .819 OPS. He's signed for another seven years. Historically, Rangers Ballpark in Arlington has been a much better park for hitters than Comerica Park but it wasn't last season according to MLB Park Factors.

    10/15/2013 10:32:00 AM
Description: Detroit slugger Prince Fielder is a career .444 hitter (4-for-9) with a 1.111 OPS against Boston right-hander John Lackey.
Insight: Pitching around Miguel Cabrera probably won't be a good option for Lackey. Fielder is 7-for-25 in the postseason.

    10/4/2013 10:32:00 AM
Description: Detroit slugger Prince Fielder is a career .571 hitter with a 1.714 OPS against Oakland right-hander Bartolo Colon.
Insight: Pitching around Miguel Cabrera isn't a good option for Colon, so he could be in for a tough night.

    9/15/2013 10:17:00 AM
Description: Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie has allowed eight hits, including two doubles and one home run, in 19 career at-bats against Detroit first baseman Prince Fielder.
Insight: Fielder has disappointing numbers this season but he is finishing strong by hitting .367 with six homers, 19 RBI and a 1.019 OPS over his last 26 games. He should produce Sunday against Guthrie.

    9/14/2013 10:21:00 AM
Description: Detroit first baseman Prince Fielder is 6-for-13 with three homers and a 1.764 OPS against Ervin Santana.
Insight: Fielder is having an off year, for him, with a .278 average, 24 homers, 102 RBI and an .821 OPS.

    9/10/2013 11:06:00 PM
Description: Detroit first baseman Prince Fielder went 4-for-5 with a homer and two RBI Tuesday at Chicago.
Insight: Fielder is 14-for-35 (.400) with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI in September but has disappointed this season with a .277 average, 23 longballs, 99 RBI and an .814 OPS.

    9/7/2013 11:11:00 AM
Description: Detroit first baseman Prince Fielder is hitless in six at-bats versus Royals starter Danny Duffy.
Insight: Fielder is actually hitting for a higher average against left-handers than right-handers (.295 vs. .264). Overall, fantasy owners have been unhappy with Fielders' production in 2013 (.274, 22 HR, 96 RBI, 810 OPS). Heading into the season in odd-numbers years he has averaged .295 with 102 runs, 44 HR, 126 RBI and a 1.002 OPS.

    8/20/2013 10:42:00 PM
Description: Detroit first baseman Prince Fielder homered Tuesday for the third time in his last six games.
Insight: Fielder has underwhelmed this season with a .260 average, 20 homers and a career-low .441 slugging percentage, but he does have 87 RBI and 63 runs so it hasn't been a total lost season.

    8/15/2013 10:29:00 AM
Description: Detroit first baseman Prince Fielder is showing signs of life by hitting .316 with four doubles and five RBI over his last eight games and also has a favorable matchup Thursday against Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie.
Insight: Fielder hasn't homered in 19 straight games and is hitting just .262 with 17 round-trippers and a .782 OPS this season, but he is 7-for-15 (.467) with two doubles and two walks against Guthrie.
