    Name  Kenley Jansen
    Born  9/30/1987

    Number  74
    Position  RP
    Bats  S
    Throws  R
    2/17/2015 9:33:00 PM
Description: Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen will miss two-to-three months after undergoing surgery Tuesday to remove a growth from a bone in his left foot.
Insight: This news come out of nowhere, and while Jansen will not miss much of the regular season, look for Los Angeles to sign either Francisco Rodriguez or Rafael Soriano to help fill the void.

    9/7/2014 9:42:00 AM
Description: Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen saved his 41st game of the season on Saturday, nailing down a 5-2 victory over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Insight: His 41 saves ranks him fifth in the majors. Jansen's ERA is a tad high for a closer at 3.09, but he has a 1.17 WHIP and 90 strikeouts versus 16 walks this year.

    5/14/2014 6:24:00 PM
Description: Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen has given up a lot of baserunners this season.
Insight: He has gone 12-for-14 in save opportunities but has a 4.34 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP. In a small sample size, Jansen has a line-drive rate of 30.4 percent and a BABIP of .432. He also has a 14.95 K/9, however.

    6/27/2013 11:03:00 AM
Description: Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen has saved three games in the last four days.
Insight: Brandon League earned a save in extra innings after Jansen blew one on June 15, but Jansen hasn't allowed a run in four appearances since then. He has a 58/6 K/BB and a 2.31 ERA in 39 innings this season.

    6/15/2013 8:37:00 PM
Description: Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen allowed a game-tying solo homer to Pittsburgh's Travis Snider in the ninth inning Saturday.
Insight: Brandon League later picked up the save in the 11th inning, allowing two hits in the process. Jansen was handed the closer role last week and hopefully will have as long of a leash as League did initially.

    6/11/2013 7:38:00 PM
Description: Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has named Kenley Jansen closer, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.
Insight: Mattingly has finally come to his senses and removed Brandon League from the role after League allowed four runs on four hits in a blown save Monday against Arizona. Jansen, who has a 2.53 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP, should be owned in all leagues.

    5/15/2013 8:49:00 PM
Description: Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen grabbed the save Tuesday against the Nationals, but manager Don Mattingly wouldn't go as far as naming him the closer after the game, according to MLB.com.
Insight: Brandon League has blown just one save in nine chances but has allowed 10 earned runs in 14 1/3 innings this season. "In that game, I had to go with the guy who's throwing the ball best; as much as anything (Jansen has) been throwing the ball better than anybody," said Mattingly. Jansen is the reliever you want to own in the Dodgers bullpen, as it is only a matter of time before Mattingly makes him the guy in the ninth inning.

    10/23/2012 4:18:00 PM
Description: Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen will have surgery Tuesday to correct an irregular heartbeat which forced him to make two trips to the disabled list, according to Ken Gurnick of mlb.com.
Insight: The procedure is only expected to keep him sidelined for three months so he should be good to go this spring.

    9/18/2012 4:53:00 PM
Description: Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen has been cleared to pitch Tuesday, according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.
Insight: Jansen has been held out since Aug. 27 due to an irregular heartbeat. It's unclear if Jansen will take back the closer role immediately.

    9/13/2012 1:54:00 PM
Description: The Dodgers are hoping they'll have closer Kenley Jansen back for the start of their series next week in Washington. Jansen has been out since August 27th because of an irregular heartbeat.
Insight: Brandon League (1-6, 3.52 ERA, 11 saves) has been getting most of the save opportunities for Los Angeles in Jansen's absence.

    9/4/2012 8:09:00 PM
Description: Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen (heart) will remain on blood thinners for 10 more days and hopes to pitch again by the team's series with the Nationals from Sept. 18-20, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Insight: Jansen was shut down last week with an irregular heartbeat and was a candidate to be shut down for the rest of the season. It appears he'll pitch again this season but that could always change. The closer will have a surgical procedure this offseason to correct his heart arrhythmia.

    8/30/2012 10:10:00 AM
Description: Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen will be out indefinitely while he deals with a heart condition.
Insight: Ronald Belisario (3-1, 2.75 ERA) and Brandon League (0-6, 4.02) seem like the most likely candidates to take over the team's closer role with Jansen sidelined.

    6/5/2012 5:47:00 PM
Description: Dodgers righty Kenley Jansen has a firm grasp on Los Angeles' closer job, especially now that Javy Guerra is out for 4-6 weeks following knee surgery Tuesday morning.
Insight: Jansen has dominated out of the pen for the second straight season for Los Angeles. He's gone 7-for-10 in save chances with a 2.03 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and a 13.8 K/9. Jansen struck out an absurd 16 batters per nine innings last season, so his rate is down somewhat this year, but he's still one of the best strikeout artists in the league.

    5/7/2012 9:57:00 PM
Description: Kenley Jansen has stolen the closer's job away from Javy Guerra.
Insight: We were expecting this to occur sooner or later and now that Guerra (5.84 ERA) has blown three saves in just 11 chances, Jansen will finally get his chance. The 24-year-old has made Guerra expendable with his impressive 2.70 ERA in 16.2 innings this year. Jansen also has seven holds.

    4/4/2012 12:48:00 PM
Description: Dodgers relief pitcher Kenley Jansen has made no progress in grabbing the closer's role from Javy Guerra after a less-than-stellar spring training ERA of 5.00
Insight: Jansen did have nine strikeouts in nine innings, but even that is far less than the 16.1 K/9IP he produced in 2011. However, Jansen is still the Dodgers long-term ninth inning answer.
