    4/24/2015 9:02:00 PM
Description: Marlins starter Mat Latos allowed two runs Friday against the Nationals.
Insight: He went 6 1/3 innings and allowed those two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four. Latos still has an ugly 7.31 ERA this season.

    4/7/2015 10:30:00 PM
Description: Marlins starter Mat Latos did not make it out of the first inning during his team debut.
Insight: It was not an outing to remember for Latos, who gave up seven runs on six hits and two walks in just 2/3 of an inning. Look for him to bounce back next time out.

    12/11/2014 2:43:00 PM
Description: The Cincinnati Reds have traded starter Mat Latos to the Miami Marlins.
Insight: Latos was 5-5 with a 3.25 ERA and a 1.153 WHIP in 16 starts this season, but heads to a very pitcher-friendly Marlins Park and could be an undervalued selection this spring.

    9/22/2014 2:08:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mat Latos will not pitch the remainder of the season, according to an mlb.com report.
Insight: Latos was 5-5 with a 3.25 ERA and a 1.153 WHIP in 16 starts this season. He's been a solid fantasy option the past two seasons, but struggled with injuries in 2014.

    9/7/2014 5:59:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mat Latos did not give up a single earned run in six innings of work against the Mets on Sunday, but New York scored three unearned runs and Latos received the loss.
Insight: It should be noted that Latos did give up a home run, but he pitched well enough to give his team a chance to win. He is 5-5 with a 3.25 ERA in 16 starts this season.

    8/27/2014 10:36:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mat Latos struck out a season-high 10 batters in Wednesday's win against the Cubs.
Insight: Latos allowed four runs on seven hits (two HR) in seven innings. The right-hander's K/9 this season is just 6.60 even after Wednesday's game.

    Hot8/23/2014 9:14:00 AM
Description: Reds starter Mat Latos gave up one run on nine hits in six innings Friday against Atlanta.
Insight: Latos struck out three batters and has a career-low 6.08 K/9. However, he's managed to record a 2.99 ERA in 84 1/3 innings. Batters are making more contact on Latos' pitches out of the zone, but they aren't doing much damage. He has a 17.2 percent infield fly-ball rate, a 5.1 percent HR/FB and he's allowed just 20 extra-base hits.

    Hot8/12/2014 10:20:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mat Latos held the Red Sox to one run on five hits in seven innings Tuesday night, but he took a no decision after the bullpen blew a 2-1 lead.
Insight: Latos has a 2.95 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP even though he's struck out just 47 batters in 73 1/3 innings (5.77 K/9). He struck out at least 7.95 batters per nine in each of the previous four seasons. The right-hander could run into trouble when his .216 BABIP regresses.

    8/1/2014 10:14:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mat Latos has found success his season despite striking out just 5.68 batters per nine innings.
Insight: Latos, who allowed one run on five hits over seven innings in a win at Miami on Friday, is 3-3 with a 3.07 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP in 58 2/3 innings. However, his ERA could rise as his .211 BABIP does. His stuff hasn't been as sharp, possibly because he had a flexor mass strain in his elbow earlier this season. Batters are offering at and making contact with a higher percentage of his pitches out of the strike zone, which has led to the drop in K rate.

    6/25/2014 10:47:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mat Latos was dominant in Wednesday's victory over the Cubs.
Insight: He held Chicago to one run in seven innings. Latos has looked sharp since his return from the DL, going 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA in three appearances.

    6/14/2014 10:15:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Mat Latos allowed two hits and didn't walk anyone in six scoreless innings Saturday in his 2014 debut. He left with a 1-0 lead but the Reds' bullpen couldn't hold it.
Insight: Latos missed the entire season due to a flexor mass strain in his elbow. He's averaged 200 innings, 13 wins, a 3.27 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP and 186 strikeouts in his four full seasons in the big leagues.

    6/10/2014 5:30:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Mat Latos (elbow) has been cleared to start Saturday, according to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: Latos has missed the entire season due to a flexor mass strain in his elbow. He's expected to replace Tony Cingrani, not Alfredo Simon, in the rotation. He's averaged 200 innings, 13 wins, a 3.27 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP and 186 strikeouts in his four full seasons.

    6/8/2014 3:20:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Mat Latos (elbow) will rejoin the rotation later this week if he doesn't have any issues during Monday's rehab start, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: Latos' last rehab start was supposed to be his final one before returning to the rotation, but he left with a calf cramp. The right-hander has missed the entire season due to a flexor mass strain in his elbow. He's expected to replace Tony Cingrani, not Alfredo Simon, in the rotation.

    6/6/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Mat Latos (elbow) left his third and what was expected to be his final rehab start due to a leg cramp.
Insight: Latos was expected to throw 90-100 pitches and then rejoin the Reds rotation. He may make one more rehab start because of the cramping issue, but a final decision hasn't been announced. In 2013 Latos went 14-7 with a 3.16 ERA and 1.21 WHIP - certainly fantasy worthy numbers.

    5/30/2014 9:50:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Mat Latos (elbow) threw 81 pitches and didn't allow a run in 4 2/3 innings in his second rehab start Friday night, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: Latos said he expects to throw rehab outing to get up to 90-100 pitches and then rejoin the Reds rotation. He's been out all season, first due to knee surgery and then a flexor mass strain in his elbow.

    5/13/2014 7:50:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Mat Latos (elbow) threw his first bullpen session on Sunday since he suffered a right flexor mass strain in April and he'll throw another one on Wednesday, according to mlb.com's Mark Sheldon.
Insight: Latos will throw a third bullpen session following Wednesday's and then he'll progress to a simulated game and eventually a rehab assignment. If all goes well, he could be back by the end of May or the first week of June.

    4/25/2014 7:55:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Mat Latos (elbow) threw on flat ground Friday for the third time since he was diagnosed with a flexor mass strain in his right elbow. SOURCE: C. Trent Rosecrans, Cincinnati Enquirer
Insight: Latos has made good progress and should be able to start throwing off a mound soon. When he throws a couple of bullpen sessions we should get a firmer timetable. The Reds haven't missed him yet because replacement Alfredo Simon is 3-1 with a 1.30 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.

    4/13/2014 11:36:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Mat Latos has been diagnosed with a flexor mass strain in his right elbow. He's out indefinitely. SOURCE: C. Trent Rosecrans, Cincinnati Enquirer
Insight: A recent MRI revealed the bad news. There doesn't appear to be any damage to his UCL, which means Tommy John surgery won't be necessary. Either way, we wouldn't expect Latos (14-7, 3.16 ERA in 2013) to be back on a mound anytime soon.

    4/11/2014 8:05:00 PM
Description: According to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Reds starter Mat Latos still felt soreness in his right elbow when he threw a bullpen session Friday.
Insight: Latos had surgery to repair a torn left meniscus in February was scratched from his rehab start Tuesday due to the elbow issue. He'll get treatment before attempting to throw again. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect to see him until May. Alfredo Simon (7 IP, 1 ER, 6 K in first start) will stay in the rotation.

    4/9/2014 5:18:00 PM
Description: Reds manager Bryan Price says that Mat Latos' elbow inflammation "doesn't look like a significant setback," according to Jon Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: Latos had surgery to repair a torn left meniscus in February was scratched from his rehab start Tuesday due to the elbow issue. "We're going to give him a couple of days off," Price said. "He's had some improvement."
