American League Preview from The Sports Network

Wednesday, May 14th (All times Eastern)

Chicago White Sox (19-22) at Oakland Athletics (25-15), 3:35 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Chicago - Andre Rienzo (3-0, 4.56) Oakland - Tommy Milone (1-3, 4.54)

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Oakland Athletics shoot for a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox when the two clubs close out their series Wednesday afternoon at O.co Coliseum.

The Athletics have won six in a row -- all at home -- and hammered the White Sox by an 11-0 score on Tuesday. Brandon Moss had a big night with two homers, three hits and five RBI, while Josh Reddick also went deep for Oakland, which had a 17-4 advantage in hits.

Reddick talked about the balmy weather and how it helped at the plate.

"I know we're loving this warmer weather," Reddick said. "The ball flies a lot better. For me, my body feels a lot better. Growing up in the heat, I'm just accustomed to it. Hopefully, it stays like this the rest of the year."

Drew Pomeranz earned the win with five scoreless innings of three-hit ball and struck out eight batters. Dan Otero, Fernando Abad and Joe Savery combined for four shutout innings of relief.

Hoping to get some of that run support Wednesday will be A's starting pitcher Tommy Milone. Milone picked up his first win of the season in an 8-0 rout of Washington on Friday and delivered eight scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with seven K's and three walks.

Milone lowered his earned run average from 5.86 to 4.54 and is 1-3 in six starts this season. The left-hander has a 1-0 mark and a sparkling 0.60 ERA in two career starts against Chicago.

After hosting the White Sox, Oakland will start a nine-game road trip against Cleveland, Tampa Bay and Toronto.

The White Sox have now lost four in a row since winning five of six games and their bats were dead on Tuesday. MLB home run leader Jose Abreu had one of Chicago's four hits and starting pitcher Scott Carroll was rocked in five innings of work, charged with six runs and 11 hits.

"We couldn't hit, we were just outplayed all the way around," said White Sox manager Robin Ventura. "Offensively, defensively. It was one of those nights."

Ventura may rest Abreu Wednesday because of a sore ankle.

Chicago will also visit Houston and Kansas City on this road trip, and hopes Andre Rienzo can stay unbeaten when he takes the mound this afternoon. Rienzo is 3-0 with a 4.56 ERA in five games (4 starts) and previously pitched in Friday's 9-3 win over Arizona, as he allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Rienzo has allowed three runs in each of his last two appearances and the right-hander has never faced the Athletics.

The White Sox and Athletics are meeting for the first time this season. Oakland took five of the seven matchups a season ago, including a three-game sweep by the bay from May 31-June 2.

Chicago is 19-43 in Oakland since 2000.
