Tuesday, April 8th (All times Eastern)

Baltimore Orioles (2-5) at New York Yankees (4-3), 1:05 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Baltimore - Wei-Yin Chen (0-1, 6.35) New York - Ivan Nova (1-0, 3.18)

(SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Yankees try to win their fifth game in six tries on Tuesday when they continue a three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium.

Derek Jeter made the most of his final home opener on Monday, as he went 1- for-4 with a run scored, while Hiroki Kuroda tossed 6 2/3 solid innings in the Yankees' 4-2 win.

"It was a great day," said Jeter. "The fans were energetic like they usually are. Home openers are special here at Yankee Stadium."

Kuroda (1-1) held the Orioles to just two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts, while Jeter opened New York's two-run fifth inning with a double that just missed clearing the wall in left field.

Jacoby Ellsbury plated Jeter with a single and finished 2-for-4, while Kelly Johnson and Yangervis Solarte added an RBI apiece in the win.

New York did all its damage against Baltimore starter Ubaldo Jimenez (0-2), who gave up all four runs on eight hits and five walks over 4 2/3 frames.

Matt Wieters and Nelson Cruz each went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Orioles, who have lost five of their last six games since opening the season with a win over the Boston Red Sox.

On Tuesday, New York will hand the ball to righty Ivan Nova, who beat the Houston Astros in his opening start. Nova held the Astros to a pair of runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings of that one.

"Well, obviously, we think he's got the talent and the stuff to have a big year, and that's important if we want to get to where we want to get to," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "But that's important for all of our starters to have good year, because you're going to need to win a lot of games in our division to win our division and to move on.

"We believe he has the stuff to have a big year."

Nova is 5-2 with a 4.46 ERA in 12 career games (11 starts) against the Orioles.

Baltimore, meanwhile, will counter with lefty Wei-Yin Chen, who was banged around by the Boston Red Sox on Thursday for four runs and 12 hits in 5 2/3 frames.

"Basically, it's the breaking ball," Chen said of getting back on track. "It's not working 100 percent the way I want it to be. Hopefully, I can get it to be better."

It may not get any better for Chen on Tuesday, as he is 0-2 with a 4.86 ERA in three career starts at Yankee Stadium.

On the injury front, New York placed closer David Robertson on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a strained left groin. The Yankees, who had put Mark Teixeira on the DL over the weekend, will now likely hand the ninth inning duties to righty Shawn Kelley.

Also, Baltimore shortstop J.J. Hardy may miss a third straight game because of back spasms.

New York narrowly won the season series a year ago, 10-9.
