(SportsNetwork.com) - San Diego's Eric Stults gets a chance to cool off a red- hot Miami Marlins offense on Friday night when the Padres visit them to open a three-game series at Marlins Park.

The Marlins opened the season with three wins in four games against Colorado and scored 27 runs while hitting .301 as a team with 15 extra-base hits, 12 of them doubles.

The Padres last visited Miami un June 2013 and scored nine runs in the opener, but were held to just three runs while losing the final three games of a four- game series.

Stults was touched for five runs on seven hits while losing a 7-1 decision in that series, but wound up winning 11 games for the season and was unbeaten in his final four outings of the year - going 3-0 with a 2.96 earned run average.

He's 1-2 in five career meetings with the Marlins.

Miami replies with New York-born righty Tom Koehler, who faces the Padres for the first time in a starting role.

The 27-year-old was a reliever in a two-inning stint against San Diego in May 2013 and allowed a single run in a game the Marlins lost, 5-0.

He beat out Brad Hand for the fifth rotation slot this spring.

Koehler is 2-6 with a 4.92 ERA in 18 career outings at Marlins Park, including 11 starts.

On Thursday in Miami, Casey McGehee's two-run single capped a four-run rally in the bottom of the eighth, as Miami emerged with an 8-5 victory over Colorado in the finale of a four-game, season-opening series.

McGehee drove in three, Giancarlo Stanton added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, with Adeiny Hechavarria contributing three hits and a run knocked in for the Marlins, who won three of four in the set.

A.J. Ramos (1-0) tossed a scoreless top of the eighth for the win and Steve Cishek followed suit in the ninth to earn his second save.

Meanwhile in San Diego on Wednesday, Hanley Ramirez finished with two runs batted in and two runs scored in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 5-1 win over the Padres in the rubber match of a three-game set from Petco Park.

Everth Cabrera doubled and scored for San Diego, with Yonder Alonso driving in the lone run.

Tyson Ross (0-1) started and struck out seven, but yielded four runs -- three earned -- in five innings of work.
