American League Game Summary - Baltimore at Houston

    (Friday, May 30th)

Final Score: Houston 2, Baltimore 1

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Villar's RBI double in the seventh helped him break out of an 0-for-26 slump and proved to be the difference in the Houston Astros' 2-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.

The Astros took the lead for good in the seventh after back-to-back doubles from Robbie Grossman and Villar.

Matt Dominguez led off the inning with a double, then moved over to third on a one-out single by Alex Presley.

Nick Markakis airmailed the throw over the cutoff man and Presley attempted to advance to second, but Caleb Joseph gunned it down to Hardy, who tagged Presley out for the second out.

Miguel Gonzalez (3-4), who took a no-hitter into the sixth, couldn't get out of the jam, as Grossman slugged a double to left that plated Dominguez and tied the game. Villar then stepped in and poked a ground-rule double to right- center that scored Grossman to give Houston the lead.

"They have been playing good ball," said Gonzalez. "You just have to tip your hat to them. They are playing good baseball."

Brett Oberholtzer (2-6) won his second straight start after going seven innings, allowing one run on four hits for the Astros.

"You know early I didn't have my stuff," said Oberholtzer. "I just tried to keep pushing, compete and the final result was good. We got a win."

Houston has won seven straight games for the first time since July 27-Aug. 3, 2010.

Baltimore, which has dropped four straight, got on the board in the second when Adam Jones doubled to open the frame and J.J. Hardy ripped a single into left two batters later that gave the O's an early lead.

With men on first and second and two outs in the eighth, Chad Qualls came on and induced an inning-ending flyout off the bat of Steve Pearce.

Qualls then converted a 1-2-3 ninth to nail down his fifth save of the season.

    Game Notes

Friday marked the 2014 Civil Rights Game. Each team donned throwback Negro League uniforms as part of the festivities that saw boxer George Foreman throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Houston, which represented the Houston Eagles, wore white jerseys with navy blue caps and lettering. The O's donned gray Baltimore Elite Giants jerseys with red lettering across the chest and red trim ... Gonzalez allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings ... Each team had five hits ... Astros rookie George Springer had his 11-game hitting streak snapped after going 0-for-4 ... Jose Altuve, who broke up the no-hitter with an infield single with one out in the sixth, stretched his hitting streak to nine games ... Baltimore's Nelson Cruz extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
