MLB Game Summary - Milwaukee at Minnesota

    (Wednesday, May 29th)

Final Score: Minnesota 4, Milwaukee 1

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Samuel Deduno pitched into the eighth inning and Aaron Hicks homered in Minnesota's 4-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Target Field.

Deduno (1-1), making just his second start of 2013, gave up four hits and a run over seven-plus frames. The right-hander left after throwing 100 pitches.

"He makes hitters very uncomfortable. He gave us a great performance," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.

Ryan Doumit hit a two-run double and the Twins got excellent relief efforts from Casey Fien and Glen Perkins to win their third straight game. They won a pair of games in Milwaukee this week, including Tuesday's 6-5 final in 14 frames despite Jean Segura tying a Brewers record with six hits.

Yuniesky Betancourt drove in the lone run for the Brewers, who have lost five in a row. Milwaukee had just five hits.

"I think we're in a funk," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "I thought he (Deduno) moved the ball around well, the fastball runs in, the fastball away cuts. He threw some nice changeups to get some outs, but we're not swinging the bats well."

Marco Estrada (4-3), who came into the game on a three-start unbeaten string, allowed seven hits and four runs over seven frames. He also had five strikeouts.

The Twins scored three times in the opening inning. Eduardo Escobar and Brian Dozier singled before Joe Mauer's fly ball to right field was caught by a leaping Norichika Aoki in front of the wall. Estrada's errant pick-off throw to second put both runners in scoring position with two outs, and Doumit followed with a double off the base of the wall in right field.

Chris Parmelee then reached on an infield single when the ball popped in and out of Segura's glove at shortstop. Chris Herrmann then singled sharply to right field for a 3-0 margin.

Hicks nearly robbed Carlos Gomez of an extra-base hit to start the second inning, but the ball popped out of his glove. Gomez scored on Betancourt's groundout later in the frame.

Hicks, though, did make a great diving catch to end the top of the fourth. With Gomez on third base, Rickie Weeks sent a sinking liner to center, and Hicks made the run-saving grab.

It became 4-1 on Hicks' homer to center with two outs in the bottom of the fourth.

"He's confident right now you can see it, a different attitude," Gardenhire said of Hicks. "It's not a perfect world, but we're enjoying watching him play baseball."

Hicks is hitting just .165 in his rookie season.

Parmelee also made a spectacular defensive play to end the top of the eighth when he went through the dugout gate to catch a pop-up from Gomez. Prior to that, Fien helped escape a jam by getting Aramis Ramirez to ground into a double play after Deduno put the first two men on base.

Perkins gave up a leadoff single to Jonathan Lucroy, but retired the next three batters to secure his 11th save.

    Game Notes

Prior to the game, the Twins reinstated infielder Trevor Plouffe from the 7- day concussion disabled list and optioned infielder Chris Colabello to Triple- A Rochester ... The Twins have gone 10 straight games without committing an error ... The Brewers went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
