National League Game Summary - Philadelphia at Miami

    (Tuesday, May 21st)

Final Score: Philadelphia 7, Miami 3

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Ryan Howard went 3-for-5 with three RBI and Delmon Young homered for the second time this season as the Philadelphia Phillies evened a three-game set with the Miami Marlins with a 7-3 win at Marlins Park.

Ben Revere also had three hits while Dominic Brown drove in a pair of runs for Philadelphia, which has won six of nine to climb within two games of .500.

Tyler Cloyd (1-0) earned his first win of the year after allowing two runs and eight hits over seven frames.

Miami rookie Jose Fernandez, who hadn't allowed a run in 13 innings against the Phillies this season coming in, gave up one run while throwing 79 pitches in five innings before being lifted for a pinch-hitter.

"He kept us in the game, he gave us a chance to win," said Marlins manager Mike Redmond. "He was running out of pitches there, we figured he did his job and we tried to score that run."

Duane Below (0-1) surrendered three runs in an inning-plus of relief.

Young's solo home run in the fourth inning put the visitors on the board first, but Miami responded with a run in the fifth on Jordan Brown's pinch-hit sacrifice fly to left.

Philadelphia regained the lead in the top half of the sixth. Howard singled and advanced to third on a Young double, then Dominic Brown dribbled a grounder to second base which allowed Howard to score easily.

The Phillies broke the 2-1 game open in the seventh inning, when they got to the Marlins' bullpen for four runs. Jimmy Rollins, Revere and Michael Young all reached on an infield singles to load the bases for Howard, who delivered a two-run single to right field. Delmon Young followed with an RBI groundout to third, and Dominic Brown plated Howard with a double down the first-base line.

Ryan Webb was charged with two runs in the inning, breaking his streak of 17 1/3 frames without yielding a run. It had been the best active streak among relievers in the major leagues.

Miami put a run across in the seventh on former Phillie Juan Pierre's two-out single to right and another in the ninth, when Justin Ruggiano doubled in a run over Revere's head in center.

With Ruggiano standing on second, John Mayberry made a diving catch on a Pierre liner to end the game.

    Game Notes

Chris Coghlan's fourth-inning triple was his second in as many games for Miami ... Howard returned to the lineup after missing two games with discomfort in his left knee ... Prior to the game, Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain. To take his place on the 25-man roster, Cloyd was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley ... The Phillies went 4-for-16 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base ... Philadelphia improved to 16-5 when scoring three or more runs.
