American League Game Summary - Toronto at Tampa Bay

    (Tuesday, April 1st)

Final Score: Toronto 4, Tampa Bay 2

St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Adam Lind hit a three-run homer and Drew Hutchinson tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings as the Toronto Blue Jays downed the Tampa Bay Rays, 4-2, in the second of a four-game set at Tropicana Field.

Hutchinson (1-0) allowed three hits and three walks while fanning four to earn his first win since June 15, 2012. Hutchinson missed the last 18 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

"I just got into a rhythm and I got there," Hutchison said. "On nights like that you keep grinding and you find it."

Jonathan Diaz drove in the other run for the Blue Jays, who bounced back from a 9-2 loss on Opening Day.

Sergio Santos allowed a run in the ninth inning, but stranded runners on second and third to earn his first save of the season.

Wil Myers and Desmond Jennings finished with one RBI apiece for the Rays, who went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Alex Cobb (0-1) allowed four runs on five hits and four walks over five innings to absorb the loss.

"Alex had his typically good stuff, but his command was off and he gives up a first-inning three-run home run, otherwise it's a different night," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "So he settled in in a sense, but he just could not get the command of everything going on tonight. But stuff-wise it was still there."

Lind's three-run shot in the first gave the Blue Jays an early edge. Melky Cabrera singled and Jose Bautista drew a one-out walk to put two runners on. After Edwin Encarnacion flew out to right, Lind lifted his first homer of the season to center.

The Jays tacked on another run in the fourth when Diaz singled home Brett Lawrie. Lawrie walked then moved to second on a Ryan Goins groundout before coming around on the Diaz single.

In the seventh inning, Rasmus clobbered a towering fly ball down the line in right field that curved foul and out of play. The Blue Jays elected to use the new challenging system, and after a brief review, the call on the field was held up.

The Rays finally got on the board in the eighth inning. Matt Joyce reached on a two-out single before scoring when Myers laced a double over Rasmus' head in center.

Evan Longoria opened the ninth with a double that deflected off Lawrie's glove. After James Loney struck out, Jennings smacked a double over the head of a stumbling Rasmus to plate Longoria.

Ryan Hanigan drew a two-out walk and was replaced on the bases by Sean Rodriguez. Jennings and Rodriguez executed a double steal, but Santos caught Yunel Escobar looking at strike three to seal the win.

    Game Notes

Tuesday's game lasted three hours, 32 minutes ... Toronto went 2-for-8 with RISP ... Mark Buehrle will take the hill for the Jays Wednesday to battle Tampa Bay's Matt Moore ... Jennings and Joyce both finished 2-for-3.
