Carter living off home cookin'

Jeff Carter has scored just three goals in his last 15 games.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Flyers center Jeff Carter was a top-10 draft pick this fantasy off-season, but so far he hasn't been playing like one and it's hurting his fantasy owners.

Carter, who went ninth in my league and had an ADP (Average Draft Position) of seventh overall, has scored just three goals in his last 15 games. That's hardly what you would expect from a player who just last season scored 46 times in 82 games.

For the year, Carter has 12 goals and 15 assists in 36 contests, well below his point-per-game total of 2008-09. He also has a minus rating (-5) for the first time in three seasons. It's beginning to look like last year was a "career" year, not a player moving his game to a new and higher level.

However, the entire Flyers roster is having problems putting the puck in the net, so maybe it's not just him.

Philadelphia is 10th in the Eastern Conference in goals with just 100 in 36 games. They have scored just 23 goals in their last 13 games (1.77 goals- per-game) and that includes a six-goal "outburst" against the Islanders and five goals on Wednesday at Tampa Bay.

The problem is what to do about it. You can't trade him at this point because you won't get full value.

Right now, I recommend sitting him while the team is on it's current six-game road trip. Carter's road production has always been less than his home production, but not to this level.

In 2008-09 he posted 33 points away from the Wachovia Center in 41 games (0.805 ppg). Carter's 2009-10 numbers on the road are well below that. He's scored just six points (4G, 2A) in 16 games (.375 ppg) as compared to scoring 21 points (8G, 13A) at home in 20 contests (1.05 ppg).

So sit Carter until Philadelphia returns home on January 6th and hope that he and the Flyers can find their offense soon.
