    Who's Hot, Who's Not - Pitching August 9

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - There are only about 50 games left in the season, so now is not the time to hesitate. Make the bold move to claim a hot pitcher or release a cold one, no matter his name or stature.

    Who's Hot

Dan Haren, Anaheim - Haren is the second part of the Angels' 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation. While Jered Weaver has gotten most of the national media attention, and deservedly so, Haren is pitching at an All-Star level too. For the season he's 12-6 with a stellar ERA of 2.81 and an equally stunning WHIP of 0.972. Since an ugly outing against Texas on July 20th, he's been even better, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.09 and a WHIP of 0.689 in three starts.

Ervin Santana, Anaheim - Santana, he of the July 27th no-hitter, didn't rest on his laurels after the "big event." In his two starts since, Santana has yielded two earned runs and struck out 14 in 17.1 innings and has extended his winning streak to five in a row. Despite all the numbers, he's still available in one out of every five leagues. Check your waiver list and make sure he's not a free agent in your league.

Mark Buehrle, Chicago White Sox - It's hard to believe that this crafty lefty is a free agent in two out of every three leagues. There should be plenty of rosters out there who could use a guy who is 9-5 with an ERA of 3.04 and a WHIP of 1.223. Ok, he's a below average strikeout guy (4.7 per nine innings), but he's solid everywhere else. In his last five starts, Buehrle is 3-0 with an ERA of 1.03, a WHIP of 0.943 and 20 strikeouts in 35 innings.

    Who's Not

Francisco Liriano, Minnesota - Fantasy owners are a stubborn lot, holding on to players far too long in hopes that they'll return to some unreachable level. Francisco Liriano is the perfect example of this, as the Twins lefty is still owned in 75% of all leagues despite an ERA of 5.03 and an equally ugly WHIP of 1.46. Lets face facts people, he's never going to be the guy he was in 2006 (12-3, 2.16 ERA, 1.000 WHIP). His performance over the past three starts (1-2, 8.16 ERA, 2.093 WHIP) should tell you it's time to set him free and look elsewhere for stretch run help.

Josh Collmenter, Arizona - When the Diamondbacks turned the rookie from a reliever to a starter, Collmenter flourished in the role winning his first two starts and not yielding a single run over 12 innings pitched. He was quickly picked up in a number of leagues and saw his ownership level rise to around 40 percent. It's headed back in the other direction as he's done little since. In fact, over his last three outings, Collmenter is 1-2 with an ERA of 9.69 and a WHIP of 1.846. Since he's so young (25), he may have fantasy value down the road, just not this season.

Jeff Karstens, Pittsburgh - Over Karstens' last three starts, he's 0-1 with an ERA of 8.80 and a WHIP of 1.826. Still, he's yielded more than three earned runs in a game just twice in 21 starts. Karstens (50% owned) has pitched too well this season to jettison him from your roster, but you should at least sit him down until he and the Pirates turn it around.
