Second Half Hitters - NL Outfielders

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - In part seven of the series, we continue our look into fantasy-worthy hitters who make the biggest improvement over the second half of the season.

The information can be important to fantasy owners who are looking to improve a position by trade or waiver pickup and those looking to "buy" a player at their lowest value, knowing they have a history of improving in the second half of the season.

Using pre-All Star game and post-All Star game OPS as our evaluation tool, today we check out the National League outfield position.

The third-year outfielder with the Marlins, Chris Coghlan, has one of the biggest first-half/second half splits in the majors, but the numbers might be deceiving. He's played just 79 games after the break versus 205 games before the break. Still, if history holds true, he'll put up fantasy-worthy numbers in the second half and he's only owned in 8% of all leagues.

Like the Rockies as a whole, Carlos Gonzalez has been a great second half player. He starts in July with a career OPS of 0.947 and continues right through Labor Day (August 0.915, September 0.928). While he's been extremely disappointing through the Rockies' first 86 games, he could be an excellent "buy low" candidate.

There are a pair of Reds' outfielders high on the list with Drew Stubbs being the guy to target in your league considering his weak first half (.250, 11 HR, 32 RBI). His current owner, who paid a fifth rounder for Stubbs in the spring, could be willing to get rid of him at a discounted price.

Of the bottom five players on the list, one is available as a free agent in two out of every three leagues - Raul Ibanez. Ibanez may have started his big second half push a series early, going five-for-15 against a tough Braves starting staff this past weekend with two homers and seven RBIs.
