    It's time to move Melky

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - San Francisco acquired Melky Cabrera from the Kansas City Royals in the offseason. Cabrera may be headed back there in July.

No, the Giants aren't looking for a trade re-do, even though the Royals probably are.

Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium is hosting the All-Star game this year, and considering the way Cabrera has been swinging the bat for a month, he'll likely be a representative of San Francisco at the Midsummer Classic.

I think it's safe to say the Royals likely regret shipping Cabrera to San Francisco for Jonathan Sanchez, and that's more an acknowledgement of Cabrera than an indictment of Sanchez (though Sanchez was awful in six starts before hitting the disabled list with biceps tendinitis).

However, as poorly as that trade worked out for Kansas City, fantasy owners might want to take a cue from the Royals and start pursuing trade partners.

On the year, Cabrera is batting .362 with two home runs, 22 RBIs, seven stolen bases, 31 runs scored and a .928 OPS. Through Thursday, the Giants outfielder leads the MLB in hits with 67.

What he's done in the last three weeks is truly astonishing.

Since May 2, Cabrera has 40 hits in 91 at-bats, a .440 batting average. He has 13 multi-hit games in that span, including two four-hit games and hit streaks of 11 and eight games.

In the past 14 days, Cabrera is the No. 3 overall player in Yahoo! fantasy leagues, second to only Jose Bautista among hitters.

And yet, something is missing from Cabrera's game.

The outfielder burst on the fantasy scene last year after spending several years as a light-hitting outfielder with a rocket arm and a knack for coming through in the clutch with the New York Yankees.

Out of nowhere, Cabrera had a career year at the plate and on the base paths -- he hit over .300 for the first time and set a new career high in hits, homers, RBIs and steals. His final stat line (.305, 18 HR, 87 RBIs, 20 SB, 102 R) made him one of the better all-around bats in the fantasy game last season.

This year, Cabrera has become more one-dimensional at the plate.

Cabrera's lack of pop is his most glaring weakness -- 47 of his 67 hits are singles. Playing in the daunting AT&T Park has been especially tough on Cabrera's power, as he hasn't hit a home run there yet.

Cabrera's .928 OPS looks fantastic, but once his unsustainably high .404 BABIP -- fifth in the MLB -- comes down to earth, his OPS will plummet due to a low slugging percentage.

Cabrera also doesn't walk enough to maintain a high on base percentage. His OBP is only .409 despite his .362 average.

The Melk Man will still have a solid fantasy value for the rest of the season because he'll steal bases, hit over .300 and score runs from the No. 2 spot in the Giants' batting order, but his stock will likely never be higher than it is right now due to that eye-popping batting average.
