Infield Player Notes
For The Last 15 Days

Prince Fielder, 1B, TEX4/18/2014 10:38:00 AM
Description: Rangers 1B Prince Fielder is 4-for-8 with a pair of homers and five walks against White Sox starter Felipe Paulino.
Insight: Fielder has struggled with his new team, but appears to be finiding his stroke. He's 4-for-14 over his last four games, including his first homer of the season.
David Wright, 3B, NYM4/18/2014 10:28:00 AM
Description: Mets third baseman David Wright is a career .458 hitter (11-for-21) with a 1.267 OPS against Braves starter Aaron Harang.
Insight: Wright is off to a slow start, batting just .258 with a .641 OPS, but this favorable matchup could get him going. Daniel Murphy, Wright, Eric Young Jr. and Ruben Tejada all have good histories against Harang which could mean plenty of scoring opportunities.
Daniel Murphy, 2B, NYMHot4/18/2014 10:25:00 AM
Description: Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy is 6-for-14 (.428) against Braves starter Aaron Harang.
Insight: Five of Murphy's six hits against Harang have gone for extra bases. He's posted three consecutive multi-hit games entering Friday's action and with a favorable matchup is a must start.
Ben Zobrist, 2B, TAM4/18/2014 10:16:00 AM
Description: Rays 2B/SS/OF Ben Zobrist is a career .417 hitter (5-for-12) versus Yankees right-hander Hiroki Kuroda.
Insight: Zobrist's five hits have all been of the extra base variety, including two homers and a 1.783 OPS. He's batting .268 this season with a .388 OBP due to walking 11 times already. He's a solid play on Friday.
J.J. Hardy, SS, BAL4/18/2014 10:14:00 AM
Description: Baltimore shortstop J.J. Hardy is just 3-for-20 (.150) against Boston right-hander John Lackey.
Insight: Hardy has averaged 25.7 HR per season over the last three years, but he's never had an extra base hit against Lackey. He's also still looking for his first homer this season. It won't likely come on Friday. Avoid this matchup.
Todd Frazier, 3B, CIN4/18/2014 9:45:00 AM
Description: Reds third baseman Todd Frazier has a pair of homers and a career .375 batting average versus Cubs right-hander Jeff Samardzija.
Insight: Frazier isn't batting for much of an average, but he has scored six runs in the past four games. His fantasy owners are hoping he'll rebound from a disappointing 2013 campaign (.234 AVG in 531 at bats).
Ian Kinsler, 2B, DET4/17/2014 10:46:00 PM
Description: Detroit second baseman Ian Kinsler bopped his second home run of the season Thursday in a win over Cleveland.
Insight: Kinsler, who finished with four RBI, has gone 7-for-17 over his last four games. The former Ranger recorded his third stolen base of the season on Thursday, though he was also caught stealing.
Mark Teixeira, 1B, NYY4/17/2014 8:14:00 PM
Description: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is hoping to be back in the lineup Sunday against Tampa Bay. SOURCE: George King III, New York Post
Insight: That's when Teixeira is first eligible to return from the disabled list. He's sat out the last week and a half with a strained hamstring.
Hanley Ramirez, SS, LOS4/17/2014 7:53:00 PM
Description: Los Angeles shortstop Hanley Ramirez is hoping to return Friday against the Diamondbacks. SOURCE: Ken Gurnick, MLB.com
Insight: He sat out Thursday's game with a hand injury. Ramirez is off to a so-so start with two homers and seven RBI in his first 15 appearances (.281 AVG).
Mike Napoli, 1B, BOS4/17/2014 6:55:00 PM
Description: Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli has returned to the starting lineup after missing one game with a dislocated finger. SOURCE: Ian Browne, MLB.com
Insight: He's hitting in his usual cleanup spot behind David Ortiz and ahead of Jonny Gomes. Napoli's .302 batting average leads the team.
Jose Abreu, 1B, CWS4/17/2014 6:51:00 PM
Description: White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu is getting the night off Thursday against the Red Sox. SOURCE: Doug Padilla, ESPN Chicago
Insight: He's ice cold at the moment with just one hit in his last 21 at bats. Paul Konerko (.111, 0 HR, 1 RBI) will get the nod at first base.
Chase Headley, 3B, SDP4/17/2014 6:48:00 PM
Description: Padres third baseman Chase Headley missed his second straight game Thursday against Colorado. SOURCE: Dennis Lin, Union-Tribune San Diego
Insight: He's still out with a strained biceps. Alexi Amarista (.296, 1 HR, 4 RBI) will be filling in at third base.
Hanley Ramirez, SS, LOS4/17/2014 2:34:00 PM
Description: Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez was forced out of Wednesday's game after being hit in the hand by a Ryan Vogelsong pitch. Ramirez is not in Thursday's starting lineup.
Insight: Ramirez had X-rays which came back negative, but he'll still miss some time. He's off to a slow start (for him), batting .281 with a pair of homers, seven RBI and 22 runs scored.
Jason Kipnis, 2B, CLECold4/17/2014 2:28:00 PM
Description: It was a short day for Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis as he was ejected in the third inning for arguing a strike call.
Insight: Not much was expected of Kipnis anyway, as he was just 3-for-24 (.125) in his career against Detroit's right-hander Justin Verlander, so this shouldn't hurt too many lineups.
Jose Reyes, SS, TOR4/17/2014 11:04:00 AM
Description: Toronto shortstop Jose Reyes was expected to be ready to return from the disabled list Friday against Cleveland, but bad weather is going to push his return to Saturday, according to Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com.
Insight: Reyes injured a hamstring in the season opener. He'll be a solid source of runs and steals as long as he can stay healthy.
Munenori Kawasaki, SS, TOR4/17/2014 10:55:00 AM
Description: Jays infielder Munenori Kawasaki will start at 2B on Thursday
Insight: He's made one start this season going 2-for-5 with a double. With Ryan Gions batting .152 and Macier Izturis sidelined by injury the Jays have nothing to lose.
Ryan Howard, 1B, PHI4/17/2014 10:50:00 AM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta.
Insight: Howard gets to avoid the left-left matchup. Not a bad idea considering he's batting .176 this season against left-handers.
Brian Roberts, 2B, NYY4/17/2014 10:40:00 AM
Description: Yankees second baseman Brian Roberts' MRI came back negative and he is questionable for Thursday's game against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Roberts hasn't played since Saturday due to a back injury. The 36-year-old is hitting just .129 with one RBI this season and shouldn't be owned in most leagues.
Eric Hosmer, 1B, KAN4/17/2014 10:30:00 AM
Description: Kansas City 1B Eric Hosmer is just 1-for-10 versus Houston starter Scott Feldman.
Insight: Hosmer is batting a respectable .286, but is still looking for his first home run. Avoid him on Thursday.
Evan Longoria, 3B, TAM4/17/2014 10:22:00 AM
Description: Rays third baseman Evan Longoria is a .395 hitter with six homers, 12 walks and a 1.364 OPS versus Yankees left-hander C.C. Sabathia.
Insight: Longoria is batting .286, but without much power (.748 OPS) through 15 games. This historically favorable matchup could help.
Jean Segura, SS, MILCold4/17/2014 10:20:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura is hitless in nine at-bats versus Pirates starter Edinson Volquez.
Insight: Segura isn't off to a great start, batting .211 after a big April last season (.367). We're begining to think what we saw in the second half of 2013 (.241, 1 HR, 13 RBI in 54 games after the break) is what we're going to get in 2014. He's also been caught stealing a league-high three times already.
Pedro Alvarez, 3B, PIT4/17/2014 10:14:00 AM
Description: Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez is just 1-for-22 (.045) with 10 strikeouts against Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo.
Insight: The 27-year-old, who tied for the NL lead with 36 bombs last season, already has five homers, 10 RBI and 10 runs despite a .161 batting average. But this is an extremely unfavorable matchup to be avoided.
Adrian Gonzalez, 1B, LOS4/17/2014 9:49:00 AM
Description: Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez is just a .130 career hitter versus Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner (3-for-23).
Insight: Gonzalez has rediscovered the power stroke, posting a .944 OPS through his first 15 games, but has an unfavorable matchup on Thursday.
Brandon Crawford, SS, SFG4/17/2014 9:45:00 AM
Description: San Francisco shortstop Brandon Crawford didn't start in Wednesday's game against the Dodgers and probably shouldn't be in Thursday's lineup based on an unfavorable matchup.
Insight: He's been dealing with a tight hamstring. He's also hitless in 10 at-bats versus Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu. Joaquin Arias will likely fill in at shortstop, but has shown little value with a bat in his hand.
Jason Kipnis, 2B, CLECold4/17/2014 9:40:00 AM
Description: Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis is an ugly 3-for-24 (.125) in his career against Detroit's right-hander Justin Verlander.
Insight: That includes 11 Ks. Kipnis is hitting .220 with two homers, three steals and 11 walks in 14 games this season.
Chris Johnson, 3B, ATL4/17/2014 9:25:00 AM
Description: Atlanta third baseman Chris Johnson is 4-for-8 with two doubles and a home run versus Phillies starter A.J. Burnett.
Insight: He's off to a slow start with just 14 hits in his first 50 at bats (.281, .708 OPS). He batted .321 last season with an .816 OPS.
Hanley Ramirez, SS, LOS4/17/2014 9:13:00 AM
Description: Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez was forced out of Wednesday's game after being hit in the hand by a Ryan Vogelsong pitch.
Insight: Ramirez had x-rays which came back negative, but he might still miss some time. He's off to a slow start (for him), batting .281 with a pair of homers, seven RBI and 22 runs scored.
Brandon Crawford, SS, SFG4/16/2014 8:42:00 PM
Description: San Francisco shortstop Brandon Crawford won't participate in Wednesday's game against the Dodgers. SOURCE: Hank Schulman, San Francisco Chronicle
Insight: He's out with a tight hamstring. Joaquin Arias (.167, 0 HR, 1 RBI) will fill in at shortstop. It's only his sixth start of the season.
Chase Headley, 3B, SDPCold4/16/2014 7:26:00 PM
Description: San Diego third baseman Chase Headley won't be on the field Wednesday against the Rockies. SOURCE: Dennis Lin, Union-Tribune San Diego
Insight: Headley has been diagnosed with a strained biceps. He's gotten off to a brutal start this season (.160, 1 HR, 4 RBI in 13 games) but it's too early for fantasy owners to give up on him.
Jonathan Villar, SS, HOUCold4/16/2014 7:10:00 PM
Description: Astros shortstop Jonathan Villar is sitting out for the first time this season Wednesday against Kansas City.
Insight: Villar is just one for his last 19 and has now struck out in 32.6 percent of his at bats this year. Marwin Gonzalez is playing shortstop on Wednesday and could see more time there in the future if Villar's struggles continue.
Mike Moustakas, 3B, KANCold4/16/2014 7:07:00 PM
Description: Kansas City third baseman Mike Moustakas won't be in the starting lineup Wednesday against Houston.
Insight: He's off to a miserable start with just four hits in his first 40 at bats. Danny Valencia hasn't been much better (.125 AVG) but he'll get the start at third base on Wednesday.
Dustin Pedroia, 2B, BOS4/16/2014 4:20:00 PM
Description: Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia has returned to the starting lineup. SOURCE: Peter Abraham, Boston Globe
Insight: He's been out with inflammation in his wrist. Pedroia will bat leadoff tonight for the 92nd time in his career. He's a .262 lifetime hitter from that spot in the lineup (98-for-374).
Mike Napoli, 1B, BOS4/16/2014 4:15:00 PM
Description: Boston first baseman Mike Napoli won't be available Wednesday against the White Sox. SOURCE: Peter Abraham, Boston Globe
Insight: He's out with a dislocated finger. Daniel Nava (.152, 2 HR, 3 RBI) will step in at first base.
Logan Morrison, 1B, SEA4/16/2014 3:48:00 PM
Description: The Mariners have placed 1B/OF Logan Morrison on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: Morrison left Monday's game with a right hamstring strain. He's 3-for-20 this season and isn't a fantasy option. Nick Franklin was called up and could see time in the outfield.
Cody Asche, 3B, PHICold4/16/2014 2:54:00 PM
Description: Phillies third baseman Cody Asche is getting the day off Wednesday against the Braves, according to Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News.
Insight: Freddy Galvis is starting at third base for Asche, who has gone 4-for-33 (.121) with 13 Ks since he went 3-for-4 with a homer and four runs on Opening Day.
Matt Carpenter, 2B, STL4/16/2014 1:01:00 PM
Description: St. Louis third baseman Matt Carpenter is out of the lineup Wednesday. SOURCE: Jenifer Langosch, mlb.com
Insight: Carpenter will get his first day off of the season. He went 0-for-5 over his last two games to drop from .295 to .265 but has 11 runs, nine RBI and 11 walks this season.
Nick Franklin, 2B, SEA 4/16/2014 11:54:00 AM
Description: The Mariners have called up SS Nick Franklin from Triple-A Tacoma. Franklin went 17-for-43 (.395) with four homers in his first 11 games at Triple-A to earn a callup.
Insight: Brad Miller, who won the shortstop job with a hot spring, hit two homers in the second game of the year but has batted .214 with a 19/1 K/BB in 56 at-bats this season. Franklin is a former first-round pick and top prospect who started off with a .277 average and 10 HRs in his first 52 games last year but hit .167 with two homers in his final 50. He could see some outfield duty with Logan Morrison (hamstring) out, according to Jon Heyman of cbssports.com.
Derek Jeter, SS, NYY4/16/2014 11:44:00 AM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter (quad) will play in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader, according to Bryan Hoch of mlb.com.
Insight: Jeter (.286) missed the last two games with a sore quad. He'll miss a third straight Wednesday afternoon but will be back for the nightcap against the Cubs.
Neil Walker, 2B, PITHot4/16/2014 11:29:00 AM
Description: Pittsburgh second baseman Neil Walker has hit four home runs over his last five games but he'll run into Johnny Cueto Wednesday against the Reds.
Insight: Walker has five homers in 14 games after blasting six in his final nine last year. He didn't hit his fifth homer in 2013 until his 51st game. Cueto has limited the second baseman to six hits in 28 at-bats (.214), however.
Pablo Sandoval, 3B, SFG4/16/2014 11:21:00 AM
Description: Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval is the owner of a .375 average against Dodgers starter Paul Maholm.
Insight: Sandoval is 6-for-16 with two homers and a double against Maholm. The third baseman has batted .164 with two homers in 55 at-bats this season, but he's also shown more plate discipline (12.7 BB%). The low average is mainly the result of a .171 BABIP, which he's posted despite having a 25.6 percent line-drive rate.
Everth Cabrera, SS, SDP4/16/2014 11:17:00 AM
Description: Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup due to a sore knee and he has a poor matchup Wednesday.
Insight: If Cabrera plays, he'll face Jorge De La Rosa of the Rockies. He's gone 3-for-18 with seven strikeouts against the left-hander. The 27-year-old is batting .340 with six doubles this season, but he has struck out 17 times in 53 at-bats.
Chase Headley, 3B, SDPCold4/16/2014 11:15:00 AM
Description: Padres third baseman Chase Headley is 8-for-36 (.222) with zero extra-base hits and 11 strikeouts against Jorge De La Rosa of Colorado.
Insight: Another cold start (.160, 1 HR, 11 Ks) has us skeptical we'll ever see the 2012 version of Headley (.286, 31 HR, 115 RBI) again. Remove that season and Headley has just 50 career homers in 683 games.
Jedd Gyorko, 2B, SDP4/16/2014 11:13:00 AM
Description: San Diego second baseman Jedd Gyorko only has seven at-bats against Colorado's Jorge De La Rosa, but he collected six hits, including two doubles.
Insight: Gyorko, who just got a new contract extension, is 8-for-50 (.160) with one home run so far after hitting .249 with 23 homers in 486 at-bats as a rookie.
Howie Kendrick, 2B, ANA4/16/2014 11:12:00 AM
Description: Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick has gone 9-for-20 (.450) with two homers and seven RBI against Oakland's Tommy Milone.
Insight: Kendrick is hitting . 241 with zero home runs and 12 Ks in 58 at-bats this season but he may be able to get his bat going Wednesday against Milone.
Albert Pujols, 1B, ANA 4/16/2014 11:01:00 AM
Description: Angels first baseman Albert Pujols is 7-for-14 with six doubles against Oakland's Tommy Milone.
Insight: Don't be fooled by Pujols' .237 average. The 34-year-old has hit four home runs in his last seven games and flew out to the deepest part of Angels Ballpark in dead center Tuesday night. He also has struck out just four times and physically looks much better than he did last year.
Justin Smoak, 1B, SEACold4/16/2014 10:47:00 AM
Description: Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak started off 6-for-13 with two homers and seven RBI but he's gone 6-for-36 (.167) with zero homers and 11 Ks since then.
Insight: Smoak also is 2-for-16 against Texas starter Yu Darvish, who will oppose the Mariners on Wednesday night.
Kyle Seager, 3B, SEACold4/16/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Mariner third baseman Kyle Seager has had some success against Texas starter Yu Darvish.
Insight: Seager has been a disaster so far, hitting .146 with zero homers and two RBI. He does have a .316 average, four doubles and seven RBI in 19 career at-bats against Darvish, however, so maybe he'll get it going Wednesday despite facing the tough right-hander.
Kevin Kouzmanoff, 3B, TEXHot4/16/2014 10:39:00 AM
Description: Rangers third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff has gone 9-for-20 (.450) with three doubles, one homer and five RBI in six games while filling in for Adrian Beltre (quad), but he's been terrible against Mariners ace Felix Hernandez.
Insight: Kouzmanoff is back in the majors for the first time since 2011. He's 3-for-24 (.125) with nine Ks against Hernandez.
Elvis Andrus, SS, TEX4/16/2014 10:37:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus has taken 67 at-bats against Seattle's Felix Hernandez and posted a .299 average (20-for-67).
Insight: Andrus is hitting .309 with three doubles, eight runs and four steals this season. Don't avoid him Wednesday just because King Felix is on the mound for the M's.
Jason Kipnis, 2B, CLE4/16/2014 10:36:00 AM
Description: Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis is 3-for-17 in his career against Detroit's Anibal Sanchez.
Insight: That includes six Ks. Kipnis is hitting .234 with two homers, three steals and 10 walks in 13 games this season.
Freddie Freeman, 1B, ATL4/16/2014 10:35:00 AM
Description: Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman is a career .242 hitter versus Phillies ace Cliff Lee and hasn't provided any power whatsoever against him.
Insight: Freeman has struck out a dozen times against Lee, who will oppose Atlanta on Wednesday.
Martin Prado, 3B, ARICold4/16/2014 10:28:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado is 4-for-23 against Mets starter Dillon Gee.
Insight: Prado is off to a cold start for the second straight season. He'll take a .231 batting average, zero homers and a .552 OPS into Wednesday's game versus Gee and the Mets.
Kelly Johnson, 3B, NYY4/16/2014 10:26:00 AM
Description: Yankees utility man Kelly Johson is 8-for-27 (.296) with two home runs against Cubs starter Jason Hammel.
Insight: Johnson has gone 10-for-38 with three homers, seven RBI and a .938 OPS in his first 12 games with New York.
Jed Lowrie, SS, OAK4/16/2014 9:59:00 AM
Description: Athletics shortstop Jed Lowrie went 3-for-5 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs Tuesday against the Angels.
Insight: Lowrie is still hitting just .262 but his 6/15 K/BB and 27 percent line-drive rate suggest he's about to heat up.
Brett Lawrie, 3B, TOR 4/16/2014 9:44:00 AM
Description: Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie blasted a ninth-inning grand slam Tuesday at Minnesota.
Insight: Lawrie has more infield fly-balls (three) than line drives (two) this season and is hitting just .100 on balls in play and .132 overall. However, he has hit three homers and driven in nine runs.
Dustin Pedroia, 2B, BOS4/16/2014 9:42:00 AM
Description: If Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia (wrist) can return to the lineup Wednesday against the White Sox, he'll face a pitcher he's gone 2-for-17 against in John Danks.
Insight: Pedroia had a cortisone shot in his sore left wrist on Tuesday and didn't start for the second straight game. He pinch ran in the ninth inning. The 30-year-old has zero homers, one RBI and a .236 average this season.
Adam Dunn, 1B, CWS4/16/2014 9:39:00 AM
Description: White Sox DH Adam Dunn walked three times and hit a solo homer Tuesday against the Red Sox.
Insight: Dunn has a 14/11 K/BB, three home runs and eight RBI in 11 games this season. He's hitting .294 due to a .389 BABIP. Dunn had a BABIP of .266 or lower in each of the previous three seasons.
Mike Napoli, 1B, BOS 4/16/2014 9:17:00 AM
Description: Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli suffered a dislocated left ring finger during Tuesday's game, according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe. He's day-to-day.
Insight: He suffered the injury when he slid head-first into second base in the ninth inning. The finger looked pretty mangled but he managed to escape without a fracture or strain.
Neil Walker, 2B, PITHot4/15/2014 10:36:00 PM
Description: Pittsburgh second baseman Neil Walker continued his home run binge with another long ball Tuesday in the second game of a double-header.
Insight: That gives Walker five blasts in 58 at bats this season. Last season, Walker didn't hit his fifth home run until June 12th. Walker's .310 batting average is a noticeable improvement from the .265 clip he hit for in 2013.
Prince Fielder, 1B, TEX4/15/2014 10:35:00 PM
Description: Rangers 1B Prince Fielder hit his first homer of the season Tuesday.
Insight: Fielder is batting .185 with nine Ks and seven BBs. His bat slowed down last season and he displayed reduced plate discipline. Moving to a better hitters park in Texas won't do anything to reverse that decline, but he should be able to put up solid numbers once he gets out of his slump.
Joey Votto, 1B, CINHot4/15/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto went 4-for-4 in Tuesday night's win over Pittsburgh.
Insight: None of Votto's hits went for extra bases. The 2010 National League MVP is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak (.471, 3 HR, 6 RBI).
Joey Votto, 1B, CINHot4/15/2014 9:13:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto homered for the third time in his last four games Monday against the Pirates.
Insight: The game was suspended due to rain after six innings and completed on Tuesday. Votto went into Tuesday night's game with a .277 average and a 1.003 OPS.
Neil Walker, 2B, PIT4/15/2014 9:05:00 PM
Description: Pirates second baseman Neil Walker finished 3-for-5 with two homers in Monday's game against the Reds, which was suspended due to rain and completed on Tuesday.
Insight: Walker hit six homers in his final nine games last year and now he has started off with four in his first 13 games this season.
Everth Cabrera, SS, SDP4/15/2014 9:02:00 PM
Description: Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera won't play Tuesday against the Rockies. SOURCE: Dennis Lin, Union-Tribune San Diego
Insight: A sore knee caused him to be a late scratch. Alexi Amarista, who has mostly played outfield this season, will make an emergency start at shortstop.
Jose Reyes, SS, TOR4/15/2014 6:26:00 PM
Description: Toronto shortstop Jose Reyes should be ready to return from the disabled list Friday against Cleveland. SOURCE: Brendan Kennedy, Toronto Star
Insight: Reyes has missed the last two weeks with a hamstring injury. He'll be a solid source of runs and steals as long as he can stay healthy.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, WAS4/15/2014 5:54:00 PM
Description: Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman won't need surgery to repair his broken thumb. SOURCE: James Wagner, Washington Post
Insight: His timetable of 4-to-6 weeks remains the same. Anthony Rendon (.346, 2 HR, 12 RBI) will fill in at third base while Zimmerman recovers.
Dustin Pedroia, 2B, BOS4/15/2014 5:42:00 PM
Description: Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia was given a cortisone shot in his injured wrist. He expects to return Wednesday against Chicago. SOURCE: Gordon Edes, ESPN Boston
Insight: Pedroia played all of last season with a torn muscle in his thumb and only wound up missing two games. You have to admire Pedroia's toughness, though it's a little concerning he only has nine home runs in his last 758 at bats.
Mark Ellis, 2B, STL4/15/2014 11:43:00 AM
Description: Cardinals second baseman Mark Ellis has been activated from the disabled list (knee).
Insight: Kolten Wong should continue to be the Cardinals starter with Ellis filling a backup role. Ellis used to have low-end value when he played with Oakland, but hasn't produced an OPS above .700 since 2011.
Garrett Jones, 1B, MIA4/15/2014 11:31:00 AM
Description: Marlins first baseman Garrett Jones is 1-for-15 (.067) with nine strikeouts versus Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg.
Insight: While Jones has homered in his last two games, the unfavorable matchup is likely to win this battle.
Elvis Andrus, SS, TEX4/15/2014 11:28:00 AM
Description: Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is just a .133 hitter (2-for-15) against Mariners starter Blake Beavan.
Insight: Andrus had an 11-game hitting streak end on Sunday, but got bat on the hit wagon Monday. Still, this is an unfavorable matchup to be avoided as even if he gets on base the struggling Rangers offense (two runs or less in five of last seven) will have problems knocking him in.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B, MILHot4/15/2014 11:23:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez is batting .500 (5-for-10) with a home run against Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller.
Insight: He's off to a great start, batting .358 with 11 RBI so seems primed to take advantage of this matchup.
Jean Segura, SS, MILCold4/15/2014 11:20:00 AM
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura is hitless in 12 at-bats versus Cardinals' young right-hander Shelby Miller.
Insight: Segura isn't off to a great start, batting .261 after a big April last season (.367). We're begining to think what we saw in the second half of 2013 (.241, 1 HR, 13 RBI in 54 games after the break) is what we're going to get in 2014. He's also been caught stealing a league-high three times already.
Brandon Moss, 1B, OAK4/15/2014 10:57:00 AM
Description: Athletics first baseman Brandon Moss is a career .462 hitter with four extra base hits and a 1.423 OPS versus Angels starter Garrett Richards.
Insight: Moss hasn't started hitting the long ball yet (1 HR) but is batting .295 with 11 RBI this season. He didn't start on Monday as the A's gave Daric Barton a start, but should be ready to go Tuesday.
Chase Headley, 3B, SDP4/15/2014 10:50:00 AM
Description: Padres third baseman Chase Headley is a career .500 hitter (6-for-12) with a pair of long balls against Colorado right-hander Juan Nicasio.
Insight: He's off to a slow start (.174, 1 HR, 4 RBI). We're still not sure which Headley we're going to see in 2014 after his disappointing 2013 season and MVP-worthy 2012 season.
Dee Gordon, 2B, LOS4/15/2014 10:43:00 AM
Description: Dodgers second baseman Dee Gordon is just 1-for-13 (.077) against Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum.
Insight: Gordon beat out Alex Guerrero for the second base job this spring and has continues to play well, batting .400 through the first 11 games with a league-leading nine steals. Proceed with caution on Tuesday based on the unfavorable matchup with Lincecum.
Ben Zobrist, 2B, TAM4/15/2014 9:34:00 AM
Description: Rays 2B/SS/OF Ben Zobrist is a career .105 hitter (2-for-19) versus Baltimore right-hander Miguel Gonzalez.
Insight: Zobrist is a career .277 hitter left-handed (.256 right-handed), but hasn't had any success versus Gonzalez. Add in a strong wind blowing in from left field on Tuesday and you have all the ingredients for a low output evening.
Matt Adams, 1B, STLHot4/14/2014 11:02:00 PM
Description: Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams only has one homer and two RBI in 50 at-bats this season but he's hitting .360 with six doubles.
Insight: Adams went 3-for-4 with a two-base hit Monday at Milwaukee. The homers will come eventually for the stocky first baseman.
Ryan Howard, 1B, PHI4/14/2014 10:58:00 PM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard went yard for the second straight game Monday against Atlanta.
Insight: Howard already has 18 Ks in 49 at-bats and is batting .224 with three HRs and seven RBI.
Andrelton Simmons, SS, ATLHot4/14/2014 10:55:00 PM
Description: Atlanta shortstop Andrelton Simmons had both a triple and a homer for the second straight game Monday against the Phillies.

Dan Uggla, 2B, ATL4/14/2014 10:50:00 PM
Description: Atlanta second baseman Dan Uggla hit two homers, including a go-ahead grand slam in the top of the ninth, Monday at Philadelphia.
Insight: Uggla entered the game with a .195 average, zero homers, one walk and 12 strikeouts in 41 at-bats this season.
J.J. Hardy, SS, BAL4/14/2014 10:04:00 PM
Description: Baltimore shortstop J.J. Hardy had two doubles and a single in four at-bats Monday against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Hardy has averaged 25.7 HR per season over the last three years. He missed six games due to a bad back and is still hunting for his first home run this year.
Matt Carpenter, 2B, STL4/14/2014 9:33:00 PM
Description: St. Louis third baseman Matt Carpenter is done for the rest of the night on Monday. He was ejected for arguing a called third strike. SOURCE: Jenifer Langosch, mlb.com
Insight: Carpenter went 0-for-2 with a walk against the Brewers. He's hiting .283 with a homer, nine RBI and 10 runs this season.
Logan Morrison, 1B, SEA4/14/2014 9:00:00 PM
Description: Mariners 1B/OF Logan Morrison left Monday's game with a tight right hamstring, according to Greg Johns of mlb.com.
Insight: Morrison left before he even got his first at-bat and was replaced by Michael Saunders in right field. Morrison is 3-for-20 this season and isn't a fantasy option.
Maicer Izturis, 2B, TOR 4/14/2014 8:36:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays infielder Maicer Izturis will miss 4-to-6 months with a complete tear of the LCL in his left knee, according to Shi Davidi of sportsnet.ca.
Insight: Izturis tripped down the dugout steps during Sunday's game and tore the ligament. The 33-year-old has been getting most of the starts at second base but the job will now go to Ryan Goins (3-for-28 this season).
Brandon Moss, 1B, OAK 4/14/2014 6:51:00 PM
Description: Athletics first baseman Brandon Moss is getting a breather Monday against the Angels.
Insight: Daric Barton is starting at first with LHP Hector Santiago on the mound for Los Angeles. Moss has an eight-game hitting streak and is batting .311 with one homer and 11 RBI in 45 at-bats this season.
Rafael Furcal, 2B, MIA4/14/2014 5:50:00 PM
Description: Miami second baseman Rafael Furcal (hamstring) will start his minor league rehab assignment on Monday, according to Joe Frisaro of mlb.com. The Marlins anticipate using all 21 days for Furcal's assignment.
Insight: Furcal is one of the rare position players who underwent Tommy John surgery. He missed all of 2013 following the procedure and hasn't been a worthwhile fantasy option since he got off to a hot start in the first two months of 2012. His hamstring injury and advanced age mean he won't be looking to run much when he does make his 2014 debut.
Dustin Pedroia, 2B, BOSCold4/14/2014 5:44:00 PM
Description: Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia has no fracture or structural damage in his left wrist, according to Rob Bradford of weei.com.
Insight: Pedroia should avoid the disabled list and may even rejoin the lineup Tuesday at Chicago. The 30-year-old missed Sunday's series finale against the rival Yankees and went 7-for-45 (.156) over his last 10 games.
Adam LaRoche, 1B, WAS4/14/2014 4:28:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is not in Monday night's starting lineup. Tyler Moore will get a start.
Insight: The noted second-half hitter is batting .311 this April with three homers and 10 RBI. This could be a good year to play LaRoche early as well as late ... just not on Monday night.
Chris Johnson, 3B, ATL4/14/2014 4:26:00 PM
Description: Atlanta third baseman Chris Johnson will sit out a second consecutive game.
Insight: He's off to a slow start with just 11 hits in his first 45 at bats. Manager Fredi Gonzalez says he'll be back in the lineup on Tuesday, Ramiro Pena (.231, 1 HR, 3 RBI) will get the start at third base, according to David O'Brien of AJC.
Casey McGehee, 3B, MIA4/14/2014 2:34:00 PM
Description: Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee will sit out Monday and give way to Jeff Mathis.
Insight: McGehee is batting .263 with 10 RBI, but is still searching for his first home run. He spent 2013 in Japan, but has 20 HR and 80 RBI talent. Mathis holds little fantasy value.
Manny Machado, 3B, BAL4/14/2014 2:28:00 PM
Description: O's third baseman Manny Machado did some running on Monday after taking a few swings in a simulated game on Saturday.
Insight: We hope to see Machado (.283, 14 HR, 71 RBI) back on the field in May now that he seems to be making progress.
Daniel Murphy, 2B, NYM4/14/2014 11:14:00 AM
Description: Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy is 6-for-13 (.462) against Arizona right-hander Bronson Arroyo.
Insight: Murphy missed some time due to paternity leave, but he's back and a viable fantasy option on Tuesday. He's hit safely in eight of 11 games this season.
Jhonny Peralta, SS, STL4/14/2014 10:16:00 AM
Description: Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta is a career .440 hitter (11-for-25) against Milwaukee hurler Matt Garza.
Insight: Peralta hasn't found his swing yet this season, batting just .111 through his first 11 games.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B, MIL4/14/2014 10:10:00 AM
Description: Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez is batting just .125 (2-for-16) against Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn.
Insight: He's off to a great start, batting .380 with 11 RBI, but this is an unfavorable matchup.
Joey Votto, 1B, CIN4/14/2014 9:57:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto is a career .352 hitter (19-for-54) with seven extra base hits and a .952 OPS against Pittsburgh left-hander Wandy Rodriguez.
Insight: Both of Votto's home runs this season came off left-handers (David Price, Cesar Ramos). Beware, however, that there is rain forecasted for Cincinnati for most of the day and night and they may have trouble getting the game in.
Ben Zobrist, 2B, TAMHot4/14/2014 9:51:00 AM
Description: Rays 2B/SS/OF Ben Zobrist is a career .435 hiiter (10-for-23) versus Baltimore left-hander Wei-Yin Chen.
Insight: Zobrist is coming off a two-homer afternoon and has hit safely in six of his last seven games to raise his average to .277 with an .871 OPS. Add in a strong wind blowing out to left field on Monday and you have all the ingredients for another solid day with the bat.
Adrian Gonzalez, 1B, LOSHot4/13/2014 11:13:00 PM
Description: Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez homered for the fourth straight game Sunday at Arizona.
Insight: Gonzalez has rediscovered the power stroke he used to hit 33 homers per season from 2007-11. He averaged just 20 per season and a .462 slugging percentage the past two years.
Brian Roberts, 2B, NYY4/13/2014 11:07:00 PM
Description: Yanees second baseman Brian Roberts' MRI came back negative and he'll be reevaluated in a few days. SOURCE: Jeff Roberts, Bergen Record.
Insight: Roberts missed Sunday's game with a back injury. The 36-year-old is hitting just .129 with one RBI this season and shouldn't be owned in most leagues.
Alexei Ramirez, SS, CWSHot4/13/2014 10:04:00 PM
Description: White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez hit another homer Sunday against Cleveland.
Insight: Ramirez went 2-for-4 and is now hitting .420 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 11 runs and three steals despite batting mostly out of the seven- and eight-hole. His home run total declined in each of the last three years down to six in 2013 but his steal total increased in the last two up to 30 in 2013. Maybe he can finally put the 20-homer power he flashed as a rookie in 2008 together with baserunning ability he displayed last year.
Jedd Gyorko, 2B, SDP4/13/2014 9:57:00 PM
Description: San Diego second baseman Jedd Gyorko belted his first home run of the 2014 season Sunday against the Tigers.
Insight: He took 2013 AL Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer deep in the second inning. The 25-year-old had 23 homers in 486 at-bats last season but is batting .163 with 16 strikeouts in his first 43 at-bats this year.
Josh Donaldson, 3B, OAKHot4/13/2014 9:49:00 PM
Description: Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson has homered in three of the last four games.
Insight: His 15/1 K/BB is a little disconcerting, but he has three longballs, eight RBI and eight runs in 12 games.
Albert Pujols, 1B, ANAHot4/13/2014 9:34:00 PM
Description: Angels first baseman Albert Pujols homered for the third time in his last five games Sunday against the Mets.
Insight: Pujols is hitting just .240 so far, but he extended his hitting streak to nine games Sunday and hasn't struck out in his last seven. Overall he looks much better and healthier than he did in 2013.
Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC4/13/2014 9:01:00 PM
Description: Chicago first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit his second homer of the year Sunday against the Cardinals.
Insight: Rizzo has hit .319 with eight RBI, nine runs and eight Ks in 47 at-bats. He batted .224 with eight home runs in April last season and went on to bat just .233 with 23 longballs and 80 RBI.
Chase Utley, 2B, PHIHot4/13/2014 8:32:00 PM
Description: Three more hits Sunday against Miami has Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley's average up to .500 (20-for-40).
Insight: He hit his sixth double and three homer Sunday and suddenly looks like vintage Utley. The 35-year-old has just two strikeouts so far.
Jimmy Rollins, SS, PHI4/13/2014 8:29:00 PM
Description: One day after Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins went 3-for-5 with a walk-off homer, he was 0-for-5 Sunday against the Marlins.
Insight: Rollins got his average up to .316 after Saturday's performance but he's back down to .279. He has good numbers -- two homers, 10 RBI, seven runs, two steals -- and is worth owning in 12-team leagues because shortstop is so shallow, but we aren't confident he'll keep this up after a horrible 2013 season.
Freddie Freeman, 1B, ATLHot4/13/2014 8:21:00 PM
Description: Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman drove in four runs Sunday against Washington.
Insight: Freeman has hit .442 with four doubles, four homers, 10 RBI, a 4/6 K/BB and 10 runs this season. He's well on his way to his first 30-homer season and should contend for NL MVP.
Andrelton Simmons, SS, ATL4/13/2014 8:20:00 PM
Description: Atlanta shortstop Andrelton Simmons went 2-for-5 with a triple, a homer and three RBI Sunday against Washington.
Insight: Simmons missed two games this week with a jammed wrist but he appears to be fine. The defensive wizard is off to a.306 start.
Adam LaRoche, 1B, WASHot4/13/2014 8:18:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday at Atlanta after getting a Golden Sombrero Saturday.
Insight: LaRoche hasn't encountered one of his typical extended April slumps yet. He's hitting .311 with three longballs, 10 RBI and 11 runs in 12 games.
Chris Davis, 1B, BAL4/13/2014 8:11:00 PM
Description: Orioles first baseman Chris Davis crushed his first homer of the season Sunday afternoon.
Insight: Davis went 11 games without one to start the year, but we know his homers come in bunches and he could have a big week ahead.
Brett Lawrie, 3B, TORCold4/13/2014 7:54:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays infielder Brett Lawrie had two hits and his second homer of the season Sunday but is still hitting just .122.
Insight: Lawrie is just 6-for-49 in 13 games. He still hasn't lived up to the promise he showed in 2011 and is facing a make-or-break year as far fantasy owners are concerned.
Ben Zobrist, 2B, TAM4/13/2014 7:45:00 PM
Description: Rays 2B/SS/OF Ben Zobrist went yard from both sides of the plate and drove in four runs Sunday at Cincinnati.
Insight: Zobrist is batting .277 with three homers, six RBI and an .871 OPS so far. As usual, he's walking a ton (8 BBs, 7 Ks). The utilityman is a career .238 hitter in April, but he's off to a nice start for a change.
Brandon Phillips, 2B, CIN4/13/2014 7:39:00 PM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips had three singles in five at-bats Sunday against the Rays and is hitting .327 with a homer and three RBI this season.
Insight: Phillips has 11 Ks in 52 plate appearances and has benefited from a .405 BABIP. He's not a .300 hitter and fantasy owners shouldn't expect this to continue. He also doesn't run much anymore (five steals last year, zero this year).
Joey Votto, 1B, CIN4/13/2014 7:38:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto hit his second homer of the season Sunday against the Rays.
Insight: Both of his home runs this season came off left-handers (David Price, Cesar Ramos). He hit just .251 with nine homers against lefties last year.
Dustin Pedroia, 2B, BOSCold4/13/2014 6:17:00 PM
Description: Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is not in Sunday's lineup and is going back to Boston for tests on his sore left wrist. SOURCE: Gordon Edes, espnboston.com.
Insight: If Pedroia has to go on the disabled list, the Red Sox would probably fill the spot with Ryan Roberts, though they may go the bold route and call up Mookie Betts from Double-A Portland. Betts is hitting .457 with six extra-base hits and four steals in 35 at-bats this season and is ranked as Boston's No. 6 prospect by MLB.com. We'll see how Pedroia's tests go.
Derek Jeter, SS, NYY4/13/2014 5:32:00 PM
Description: Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that he gave Derek Jeter off Saturday and Sunday due to a sore quad, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.
Insight: The Yankees have a day off Monday, so he'll end up getting three full days of rest. The 39-year-old is 10-for-35 with one RBI and three runs this season.
Derek Jeter, SS, NYY4/13/2014 4:35:00 PM
Description: New York shortstop Derek Jeter is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against Boston. SOURCE: Buster Olney, ESPN
Insight: Well this is strange. Jeter will watch from the sidelines for the second game in a row, though the Yankees haven't provided any injury news regarding the 39-year-old. Dean Anna (.214, 1 HR, 1 RBI) will start in his place.
Danny Espinosa, 2B, WAS4/13/2014 4:01:00 PM
Description: It looks like Danny Espinosa is going to be Washington's everyday second baseman for the next 4-6 weeks while Ryan Zimmerman (thumb) is on the DL.
Insight: Zimmerman broke his thumb Saturday. Espinosa averaged 19 homers and 18 steals per season in 2011-12 but played through an injury and hit just .158 in 44 games last year. He came into Sunady with a .316 average in 19 at-bats this season and could help out NL-only owners looking for middle-infield help.
Adrian Beltre, 3B, TEX4/13/2014 3:59:00 PM
Description: According to Richard Durrett of espndallas.com, the Rangers have placed Adrian Beltre on the 15-day disabled list with a strained quad.
Insight: The move was backdated to April 9, so Beltre can come off the DL on April 24. It's a Grade 1 strain so he should be able to return when he's first eligible.
Martin Prado, 3B, ARI4/13/2014 3:55:00 PM
Description: Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado (rest) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Prado got off to a 3-for-25 (.120) start, but he has gone 12-for-31 (.387) with two doubles over his last eight games.
Jed Lowrie, SS, OAK4/13/2014 1:31:00 PM
Description: A's shortstop Jed Lowrie won't start Sunday against Seattle.
Insight: Lowrie hasn't gotten it going yet this season, batting just .242 through 11 games. Nick Punto (.214, 0 HR, 0 RBI) will give it a try Sunday in the series finale.
Dan Uggla, 2B, ATL4/13/2014 10:34:00 AM
Description: Atlanta second baseman Dan Uggla isn't in the starting lineup for Sunday's game versus the Nationals. SOURCE: Mark Bowman, MLB.com
Insight: Uggla's low batting average becomes a lot more tolerable when he's producing good power numbers. However, that hasn't been the case this season as he's now homerless in 41 at bats. Tyler Pastornicky will draw the start at second base.
Chris Johnson, 3B, ATL4/13/2014 10:31:00 AM
Description: Atlanta third baseman Chris Johnson will take a seat Sunday against Washington. SOURCE: Mark Bowman, MLB.com
Insight: It's Johnson's first absence of the season. He's off to a slow start with just 11 hits in his first 45 at bats. Ramiro Pena (.222, 1 HR, 3 RBI) will get the start at third base.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, WAS4/13/2014 9:56:00 AM
Description: Washington 3B Ryan Zimmerman left last night's game with a broken thumb and will now miss 4-to-6 weeks. SOURCE: Mark Zuckerman, Comcast Sportsnet Mid-Atlantic
Insight: It's a really tough break for the Nats as Zimmerman had been off to a great start (.364, 2 HR, 6 RBI in ten games). Anthony Rendon (.372, 2 HR, 9 RBI) should see time at third base while he's out.
J.J. Hardy, SS, BAL4/12/2014 7:00:00 PM
Description: Baltimore shortstop J.J. Hardy is good to go for Saturday's game against Toronto. SOURCE: Dan Connolly, Baltimore Sun
Insight: He's missed most of the last week because of back spasms. Hardy led all AL shortstops in homers last season (25) but he has yet to leave the yard in 2014 (15 at bats).
Adrian Beltre, 3B, TEX4/12/2014 6:23:00 PM
Description: According to Anthony Andro of Fox Sports Southwest, the Rangers are leaning toward placing third baseman Adrian Beltre on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: A quad strain has kept him out since Tuesday. If Texas makes the move retroactively, Beltre (.286, 0 HR, 4 RBI) could be eligible to return as early as April 25th against the Mariners.
Adrian Beltre, 3B, TEX4/12/2014 6:00:00 PM
Description: The Rangers will again be without third baseman Adrian Beltre Saturday against Houston. SOURCE: Dallas Morning News
Insight: It's his third absence in a row after suffering a quad strain earlier this week against the Red Sox. Kevin Kouzmanoff (.400, 0 HR, 0 RBI) is filling in at third base.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS, COL4/12/2014 3:17:00 PM

Brandon Belt, 1B, SFGHot4/12/2014 3:13:00 PM
Description: Giants first baseman Brandon Belt will sit Saturday with Buster Posey getting the nod at 1B.

Michael Cuddyer, 1B, COL4/12/2014 1:30:00 PM
Description: Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer is not in Saturday afternoon's starting lineup.
Insight: Cuddyer is off to another good start, batting .386 with 3 homers and 10 RBI. Cuddyer hit .331 with 20 homers, 84 RBI and a .919 OPS last season - so its not a fluke.
Mark Teixeira, 1B, NYY4/12/2014 11:59:00 AM
Description: New York first baseman Mark Teixeira (strained hamstring) said he expected to return as soon as he's eligible to come off the disabled list, according to ESPN's Andrew Marchand.
Insight: Teixeira has been an injury-prone mess for the past year and can't be counted on this season. He's no longer the 30-plus homer guy he was from 2009-2011.
Jhonny Peralta, SS, STL4/12/2014 11:05:00 AM
Description: Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta is not in Saturday's starting lineup.
Insight: Peralta's home run totals have been all over the place in his career. He hit 21-24 in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2011 but 11-15 in 2006, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. So far this season he's hit two homers, but they are his only hits this season (batting .063). Daniel Descalso will get the start.
Derek Jeter, SS, NYY4/12/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is not in Saturday afternoon's starting lineup.
Insight: Jeter has missed only one of the first 11 games so far this season, not bad for the 39-year-old. He's batting .286, though has scored just three runs and knocked in one.
Pedro Alvarez, 3B, PIT4/12/2014 10:24:00 AM
Description: Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez is just 1-for-20 (.050) with nine strikeouts against Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo.
Insight: The 27-year-old, who tied for the NL lead with 36 bombs last season, already has five homers, 10 RBI and eight runs. But this is an extremely unfavorable matchup to be avoided.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS, COL4/12/2014 10:08:00 AM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (quad) did not play Friday, but fantasy owners hope he'll be ready for Saturday because of a favorable matchup.

Jimmy Rollins, SS, PHI4/11/2014 10:42:00 PM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins has taken five walks over his last four games.
Insight: Rollins went 2-for-3 with a triple, two walks and a steal Friday and is up to .273 with eight RBI and two steals this season. He hasn't struck out since April 6.

Joey Votto, 1B, CIN4/11/2014 10:34:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto blasted his first homer of the season Friday against the Rays.
Insight: Votto (.257) took David Price to left field to break a shutout in the bottom of the ninth inning. Votto has just two RBI this season because opponents pitch around him with men on base and he refuses to expand the zone.
Jose Reyes, SS, TOR4/11/2014 8:44:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes (hamstring) felt "comfortable" running Friday and will push his hamstring further on Saturday, according to Shi Davidi of sportsnet.ca.
Insight: Reyes strained his left hamstring near the end of spring training and aggravated it on Opening Day. If he gets past Saturday without an issue, Reyes will go out on a rehab assignment.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS, COL4/11/2014 7:02:00 PM
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (quad) will not play Friday, according to Thomas Harding of mlb.com. He was initially in the starting lineup.

Insight: Peterson batted over .300 last season and has averaged 44 steals over the past three minor league seasons. He's very similar in game to Evereth Cabrera which may be a problem since that's who he would be replacing.

Description: Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli is having a great series against his former team.
Insight: He went 3-for-5 Tuesday and is now 6-for-10 against Texas over the last two games. Napoli (.364, 2 HR, 8 RBI) is usually a swing for the fences guy but all six of his hits this series have been singles.
Chris Davis, 1B, BAL4/8/2014 8:16:00 PM
Description: We're eight games into the season and Baltimore 1B Chris Davis is still in search of his first homer.

Adrian Beltre, 3B, TEX4/8/2014 7:56:00 PM
Description: Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre left Tuesday's game in the fourth inning because of quad tightness. SOURCE: TR Sullivan, MLB.com

Description: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will play through a quad injury Tuesday against Chicago. SOURCE: Denver Post

Insight: Zimmerman has been dealing with shoulder inflammation for at least two and a half years, and Washington manager Matt Williams said Monday night that the third baseman has an "arthritic shoulder." Zimmerman had surgery to repair inflammation in his AC joint and fraying in his labrum and rotator cuff in 2012 after changing his throwing mechanics in 2011 following abdominal surgery. He was on the field four hours before Tuesday's game trying out a new sidearm throwing motion.
Ryan Roberts, 2B, BOS4/8/2014 2:16:00 PM
Description: Red Sox newly-acquired infielder Ryan Roberts will make his debut on Tuesday night at third base.

Chase Utley, 2B, PHI4/8/2014 2:08:00 PM
Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley will miss Tuesday's game due to flu-like symptoms.
Insight: Utley is pounding the ball this spring, batting .458 with a pair of homers through the first two series, but is just a .148 lifetime hitter against Tuesday's starter right-hander Kyle Lohse. Hopefully he won't miss more than a day or two.
Manny Machado, 3B, BAL4/8/2014 2:05:00 PM
Description: O's third baseman Manny Machado still has no timetable for return.
Insight: His recovery from offseason knee surgery took a setback last month and he's running on a treadmill in a pool. We hope to see Machado (.283, 14 HR, 71 RBI) back on the field in May, but until they announce a schedule we're just guessing.
Matt Carpenter, 2B, STL4/8/2014 1:35:00 PM
Description: St. Louis third baseman Matt Carpenter is a .579 career average against Cincinnati right-hander Homer Bailey.

David Wright, 3B, NYM4/8/2014 12:52:00 PM
Description: Mets third baseman David Wright is a career .524 hitter (11-for-21) with a 1.434 OPS against Braves starter Aaron Harang.
Insight: Wright is off to a slow start, batting just .238 with a .701 OPS, but this extremely favorable matchup could get him going. Daniel Murphy, Wright and Ruben Tejada all have good matchups against Harang which should mean plenty of scoring opportunities.
Daniel Murphy, 2B, NYM4/8/2014 12:49:00 PM
Description: Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy is 6-for-11 (.545) with five extra base hits and a 1.727 OPS versus Atlanta starter Aaron Harang.

Prince Fielder, 1B, TEX4/8/2014 10:19:00 AM
Description: Rangers 1B Prince Fielder appears to be pressing early in the season and is batting just .148 without a home run.
Insight: Fielder has been chasing a few pitches out of the strike zone of late, but that will eventually stop. His Tuesday matchup, however, is unfavorable and he should be avoided. He's 0-for-6 against Boston left-hander Felix Doubront.
Chase Utley, 2B, PHI4/8/2014 10:01:00 AM
Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley is just a .148 lifetime hitter against Brewers right-hander Kyle Lohse (4-for-27).
Insight: Utley is pounding the ball this spring, batting .458 with a pair of homers through the first two series. Fantasy owners would probably like to put him out there given the wind blowing out to right on Tuesday, but his lack of success against Lohse makes that a gamble.
Ryan Howard, 1B, PHI4/8/2014 9:59:00 AM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard has a career .455 batting average with a pair of homers and a 1.311 OPS versus Milwaukee starter Kyle Lohse.

Chris Davis, 1B, BAL4/8/2014 9:55:00 AM
Description: Baltimore first baseman Chris Davis is 8-for-23 (.348) with three homers and a 1.227 OPS versus Yankees right-hander Ivan Nova..

Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley has homered in two straight games against the Cubs.
Insight: Utley has collected at least one hit in all five games this season and is 10-for-21 (.476) with two doubles, two homers, five RBI and just one strikeout.

Description: White Sox DH Adam Dunn is a career .333 hitter versus Royals left-hander Bruce Chen.
Insight: Dunn normally struggles against lefties (career .220 hitter), so this is outside his comfort zone, but he's 8-for-24 with four extra base hits and a 1.133 OPS against Chen.
Mike Moustakas, 3B, KANCold4/5/2014 9:42:00 AM

Insight: Moustakas is 1-for-11 versus Danks. We've been waiting for three years for Moustakas to produce and another slow start may be the end of his fantasy relevance.
Alcides Escobar, SS, KANCold4/5/2014 9:40:00 AM
Description: Kansas City shortstop Alcides Escobar is hitless in 10 at-bats versus White Sox left-hander John Danks with four strikeouts.

Mike Carp, 1B, BOS4/4/2014 11:10:00 AM
Description: With Shane Victorino out with a strained hamstring, Mike Carp is in the starting lineup on Friday.

Alex Gonzalez, SS, DET4/4/2014 11:08:00 AM
Description: Tigers shortstop Alex Gonzalez was to get Thursday afternoon off (rained out) and will still get a day off on Friday with Andrew Romine starting at shortstop for Detroit.
Insight: Gonzalez went 3-for-8 over the first two games with a pair of RBI. He's no Jose Iglesias and fantasy owners should probably look elsewhere for shortstop help as his last fantasy-worthy season was 2010.

Jimmy Rollins, SS, PHI4/4/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is back in the lineup for Friday's game against Chicago, according to Philadelphia staff writer Matt Gelb.
Insight: Rollins left the club for the birth of his baby. Once a top-five fantasy shortstop, Rollins' numbers have faded to the level of a low-end starter. He can still steal 20-plus bases, but the days of 20 HR and 40 SB are long gone.
Martin Prado, 3B, ARI4/4/2014 9:46:00 AM
Description: Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado is just 1-for-11 (.091) versus Rockies starter Juan Nicasio.
Insight: Prado is a fantasy favorite because of his versatility. He's eligible at 2B, 3B and outfield. At some point, however, he'll be dropped as the team's cleanup hitter for someone who can provide more protection for 1B Paul Goldschmidt. For now he's in a great spot, but should not be started on Friday in this unfavorable matchup.
Brandon Crawford, SS, SFG4/4/2014 9:38:00 AM
Description: Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford is hitless in 10 at-bats against Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Description: Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez is just 1-for-12 (.083) against Giants right-hander Ryan Vogelsong.
Insight: Ramirez is off to a cold start with just two hits in 19 at-bats. He's one of the top-two fantasy shortstops and will certainly snap out of it. Probably not on Friday, however, and he should be avoided.
Mark Reynolds, 1B, MIL4/4/2014 9:32:00 AM
Description: Mark Reynolds has never done much against Boston right-hander Jake Peavy and should not be started.

Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, WAS4/3/2014 9:06:00 PM
Description: Nats third baseman Ryan Zimmerman jolted four hits Thursday in an 8-2 victory over New York.

Sean Rodriguez, SS, TAM4/3/2014 8:32:00 PM
Description: Rays utility man Sean Rodriguez has been placed on paternity leave.
Insight: Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy got some heat on talk radio for beginning the season on paternity leave though we doubt Rodriguez will receive as much criticism. The Rays don't really have a spot for Rodriguez right now and neither should fantasy owners.
