Hearing the breaking news that Terrell Owens underwent ACL surgery by Dr. James Andrews sometime over the last month is extremely bad for the soon to be 38-year-old wide receiver and could, in fact, signal the end of an excellent career.
Whether it was a NFL Hall-of-Fame career is for others to decide, but despite all the problems T.O. caused, on and off the field, he was definitely a fantasy Hall-of-Famer.
If Owens doesn't play another down, he's still put up some mighty impressive statistics.
Owens has played 15 seasons, amassing 1,078 receptions, 15,934 yards and 156 touchdowns (153 of them receiving). The wideout went to six Pro Bowls, was a first-team All-Pro five times, and cracked the 1,000-yard mark nine times.
In the fantasy world, he finished as a top-four receiver seven times between 1998 and 2007.
Unfortunately, his fantasy value took a huge hit after he left Dallas in 2008 and his two seasons since, one each in Buffalo (55-829-5) and Cincinnati (72-983-9), were largely disappointing to his owners.
However, there is no denying how good he was to fantasy owners for most of his career. He led all receivers in TDs on three occasions and pulled down double- digit touchdowns in eight seasons.
For his career, his numbers are very similar to guys like; Steve Largent, Marvin Harrison, Randy Moss, Isaac Bruce, Chris Carter and James Lofton.
In fact, his statistics are probably better than any wide receiver in history - except for his former San Francisco 49ers' teammate Jerry Rice.
