Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The NBA announced Monday that Toronto has been selected to host the NBA All-Star Game in 2016.
It will be the first time in the 65-year history of the event that the game will be held outside the United States.
"We are thrilled that Toronto is hosting our first NBA All-Star Game outside the United States," said NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver. "As the site of the first game ever in the NBA, Toronto is an ideal location for this global basketball celebration."
The game will be played on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016 at Air Canada Centre, the home of the Toronto Raptors.
"On behalf of the City of Toronto, we are thrilled about today's announcement and will be honored to welcome the world to our city in 2016 for the NBA All- Star Game," said Toronto mayor Rob Ford.
The 2015-16 season marks the Raptors' 20th anniversary.
Toronto hosted the first-ever NBA game on Nov. 1, 1946 at Maple Leaf Gardens when the New York Knickerbockers beat the hometown Huskies.
