Lakers sign C Kaman
El Segundo, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Lakers officially signed center Chris Kaman on Friday.
Terms were not released, but the Los Angeles Times reported on Monday that Kaman will be returning to the LA area on a one-year, $3.2 million deal.
"We're pleased to be able to add a big man of Chris' caliber to the roster for the upcoming season," said Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak. "He's a versatile center who defends well, goes hard to the glass and can score both in the paint and from mid-range while also being a high character guy and solid locker room presence."
Kaman, 31, spent his first eight seasons in Los Angeles but played with the Clippers after they selected him with the sixth overall pick in the 2003 draft. He averaged a double-double in 2007-08 and logged 18.5 points per game two seasons later.
The Lakers were left short-handed at the center position after the team lost superstar Dwight Howard to the Houston Rockets via free agency.
Kaman's production has dipped the past three seasons, though, last year averaging 10.5 points and a career-low tying 5.6 rebounds in 66 games with the Dallas Mavericks.
