Final Score: Washington 6, New York 3
Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Jordan Zimmermann won his NL-leading 17th game and Jayson Werth smacked a solo homer in the Washington Nationals' 6-3 triumph over the New York Mets in the second installment of a four-game set.
Zimmermann (17-8) surrendered three runs on eight hits and a walk over five- plus frames, while Werth tallied three hits, two RBI and two runs scored for the Nationals, who have won 17 of their last 21 games against the Mets at Citi Field.
"I didn't have very good command of any pitches," Zimmermann said.
Adam LaRoche cracked a solo shot and former Met Scott Hairston belted a two- run blast in the victory.
Dillon Gee (11-10) allowed four runs on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings for New York, which has dropped seven of its last nine tilts.
"Obviously, I wasn't commanding the ball as well as I have been," Gee said. "You can't get away with that against these guys. They made me pay."
Wilson Ramos' two-out RBI single in the sixth staked the Nationals a 4-1 lead, but the Mets got within a run after plating a pair in the home sixth.
Lucas Duda singled and Justin Turner doubled to put runners on second and third with one away. Matt den Dekker then bought both of them home when he ripped a base hit over the glove of Ian Desmond at shortstop.
The Nationals' bullpen, though, shut down the Mets the rest of the way.
Drew Storen fired a scoreless seventh and Tyler Clippard spun a perfect eighth before the pinch-hitter Hairston gave the Nats some insurance in the ninth with a one-out, two-run shot into the seats in left for a 6-3 edge.
Rafael Soriano tossed a scoreless ninth to notch his 40th save of the year.
Earlier, Washington pushed across the first three runs after plating one in each of the first three innings.
Solo shots by Werth and LaRoche in the first and second innings, respectively, preceded Werth's RBI double in the third, which made it 3-0.
Turner's RBI single in the fourth got the Mets on the board.
Werth has 23 homers and 71 RBI on the season ... Daniel Murphy tallied his 34th double of the year for the Mets ... The Nationals were 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position, while the Mets finished 2-for-9 with RISP.
