Reports: Ortiz, Red Sox agree to extension

Ft. Myers, FL (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox and reigning World Series MVP David Ortiz have reportedly agreed to a one-year contract extension for the 2015 season.

According to multiple outlets Sunday, the new pact is worth $16 million and includes a club option for 2016.

The jovial 38-year-old native of the Dominican Republic hit .309 with 30 home runs, 38 doubles and 103 RBI over 137 regular-season games for the AL East champions in 2013.

He followed up by collecting 18 hits in 51 at-bats during the postseason, including a scorching .688 average (11-for-16) with two homers and six RBI along with eight walks in a six-game triumph against the St. Louis Cardinals.

A nine-time All-Star selection with the BoSox, Ortiz is a lifetime .287 hitter who has launched 431 homers and collected 520 doubles while driving in 1,429 runs over his 17-year major-league career.
