Padres add Josh Johnson to rotation

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Diego Padres have signed right- handed starting pitcher Josh Johnson to a one-year contract.

The contract is worth $8 million, according to multiple reports. Johnson can earn another $1.25 million if he makes 26 or more starts for the Padres in 2014.

Johnson went 2-8 with a 6.20 ERA over 16 starts with Toronto last season. He made two trips to the disabled list last year.

The 29-year-old Johnson was a fourth-round pick of the Marlins in 2002. The right-hander made his major league debut in 2005.

In eight seasons with the Marlins, Johnson went 56-37 with a 3.15 ERA in 154 games (144 starts). He reached double-digit victories three times during his time with the Marlins -- 12 wins in 2006, 15 in '09 and 11 in '10.

The two-time National League All-Star has a 58-45 career record with a 3.40 ERA. His career has been interrupted four times by injuries, including "Tommy John" elbow reconstruction surgery in 2007.

Johnson had bone spurs removed from his right elbow on Oct. 1.
