Indians make it official with Myers Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians officially added a veteran presence to their starting rotation on Friday, signing pitcher Brett Myers to a one-year deal. The pact, which includes a club option for a second year, became official after the 32-year-old right-hander passed a physical. Myers spent the entire 2012 season in the bullpen for the Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox. He registered 19 saves and a 3.52 earned-run average as Houston's closer before being shipped to Chicago at the trade deadline. Myers was drafted by Philadelphia as a starter in 1999 and played eight seasons in red pinstripes. He won 50 games as a starter for the club from 2003-2006 before closing games during the 2007 campaign. He then reprised a starter's role in 2008 and helped Philadelphia win its second World Series title that season. Cleveland acquired former Diamondbacks prospect Trevor Bauer during the offseason, but Myers will slide into to a rotation which includes Ubaldo Jimenez, Zach McAllister, Carlos Carrasco and Corey Kluber. 01/04 14:23:15 ET |
