Chicago Bulls Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Derrick Rose, G8/2/2014 9:56:00 AM
Description: Bulls point guard Derrick Rose looked very good during the Team USA Showcase event in Las Vegas Friday night.
Insight: Rose missed most of last season with a torn meniscus after sitting out all of the previous season while recovering from a torn ACL, but appeared to have his explosive speed back. We expect his shot will be a bit rusty, but if he continues to play like this, he'll be selected within the first two rounds at fantasy drafts.
Derrick Rose, G7/29/2014 9:35:00 PM
Description: Syracuse coach and Team USA assistant coach Jim Boeheim said Bulls point guard Derrick Rose has been "the most impressive guy" at Team USA's training camp, according to ESPNChicago.com.
Insight: Rose missed most of last season with a torn meniscus after sitting out all of the previous season while recovering from a torn ACL. Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau, another Team USA assistant, also praised Rose. "The same (speed and explosiveness). The strength in his leg is great. His explosion is back. That's all there," Thibodeau said.
Derrick Rose, G7/28/2014 12:16:00 PM
Description: Bulls guard Derrick Rose will compete for a Team USA roster spot without any restrictions based on past injuries.
Insight: Rose missed most of last season with a torn meniscus. It will be pretty tough competition to make the final roster as Rose will be going up against Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard, John Wall, and Kyrie Irving. If he can beat any of those guys, it bodes well for his fantasy value next season.
Carlos Boozer, F7/16/2014 3:57:00 PM
Description: The Bulls have used their amnesty provision on Carlos Boozer.
Insight: Chicago shopped Boozer around the league first but couldn't find any team interested in taking on his $16.8 million salary. He averaged 28.2 minutes, 13.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game last season, but he was rarely used in fourth quarters and was no longer needed after the team signed Pau Gasol.
Pau Gasol, PF/C7/13/2014 3:49:00 PM
Description: Pau Gasol is finalizing a contract with the Chicago Bulls.
Insight: The acquisition of Gasol, who averaged 17.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.5 blocks last season, to pair with Joakim Noah will give Chicago the best passing frontcourt in the NBA. It will also keep Taj Gibson on the bench.
Derrick Rose, G6/18/2014 11:20:00 AM
Description: Bulls guard Derrick Rose has declared himself game-ready. SOURCE: K.C. Johnson, Chicago Tribune
Insight: Rose missed most of last season with a torn meniscus. He's still relatively young (25) but after so many surgeries, it's doubtful Rose will ever play at an MVP level again.
Taj Gibson, PF5/24/2014 3:52:00 PM
Description: Taj Gibson has been told he'll be the Bulls' starter at power forward next season. SOURCE: Chicago Sun-Times
Insight: The implication is that Carlos Boozer is on his way out of Chi-Town. Boozer could be tough to trade given his gigantic $16.8 million salary but Gibson (13.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg) has certainly earned his place in the starting lineup.
Joakim Noah, C5/2/2014 8:11:00 PM
Description: Chicago center Joakim Noah has already undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. SOURCE: NBA.com
Insight: He'll need 8-to-12 weeks of recovery time. Noah was the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year in 2014. He'll be fine by the time the regular season opens in late October.
Taj Gibson, PF/C4/30/2014 9:33:00 PM
Description: Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said that Taj Gibson sprained his ankle Tuesday night, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.
Insight: Gibson exited Game 5 of Chicago's playoff series against the Wizards with the injury and never returned. Washington eliminated the Bulls despite Gibson averaging 18.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game in the series. The 28-year-old had his best season in 2013-14 (13 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.4 bpg).
Joakim Noah, C4/30/2014 9:32:00 PM
Description: Bulls center Joakim Noah underwent an MRI on his knee Wednesday, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.
Insight: Noah needed to have the knee drained as well. He won the Defensive Player of the Year award this season after averaging 12.6 points, 11.3 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals in 80 games. The Wizards eliminated the Bulls from the postseason Tuesday night.
Joakim Noah, C4/30/2014 9:31:00 AM
Description: Chicago's season ended in disappointing fashion Tuesday against Washington but that didn't stop center Joakim Noah from grabbing 18 rebounds and handing out seven assists.
Insight: Noah also contributed three blocked shots in the losing effort. The series win was Washington's first since 2005. Noah averaged 10.4 ppg, 12.8 rpg, 4.6 apg and 1.4 bpg for the series.
Taj Gibson, PF/C4/29/2014 10:09:00 PM
Description: Bulls PF/C Taj Gibson rolled his left ankle on John Wall's foot during Tuesday's game and was helped to the locker room, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.

Taj Gibson, PF/C4/27/2014 3:38:00 PM
Description: Bulls PF/C Taj Gibson netted a game-high 32 points Sunday in a Game 4 loss to Washington.
Insight: Gibson scored 20 of those points in the first half. He shot an incredible 81.3 percent from the floor (13-of-16) and spent most of the game manhandling Trevor Booker in the low post. Of course, things will be a lot harder for Gibson Tuesday when Nene returns from his one-game suspension.

Description: Chicago swingman Mike Dunleavy may have hyperextended his elbow Sunday against Washington. SOURCE: K.C. Johnson, Chicago Tribune

Taj Gibson, PF/CHot4/23/2014 10:05:00 AM
Description: Chicago PF/C Taj Gibson recorded his fourth career postseason double-double Tuesday against Washington.
Insight: He finished with 22 points, ten boards and three blocked shots. Despite Gibson's efforts, the Bulls are down 0-2 and will have to win the next couple on the road to have any chance of coming back in this series.

Description: Bulls center Joakim Noah collected 20 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks in Tuesday's loss to Washington.

Description: Bulls center Joakim Noah tied Lance Stephenson for the NBA lead with his fourth triple-double of the season Wednesday night.

Insight: That's a season-high for the 26-year-old. Augustin started the year in Toronto but has been a completely different player since joining Chicago in mid-December. In 53 games filling in for Derrick Rose, Augustin has produced 14.5 ppg and 5.0 apg.

Insight: Boozer led the Bulls in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Gibson had 13 points and 10 boards. Boozer has averaged just 10.9 ppg in March, his lowest monthly output of the season, due in large part to the emergence of Gibson.

Description: Bulls forward Tornike Shengelia is questionable for Friday's game against Indiana due to flu-like symptoms.
Insight: Averaging less than seven minutes a night, Shengelia has no fantasy value. Lets just hope he doesn't give his cold to any fantasy-worthy players.

Description: Bulls power forward Carlos Boozer was a late scratch Thursday against Golden State. SOURCE: Nick Friedell, ESPN Chicago
Insight: Boozer is battling a strained calf. Taj Gibson (12.2 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.5 bpg) will slide into the starting lineup for Chicago.
Jimmy Butler, G/F2/5/2014 11:15:00 AM
Description: Chicago shooting guard Jimmy Butler has averaged 16 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.2 steals, 2.2 assists and 1.2 threes in his last five games.
Insight: Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau may be running Butler into the ground by playing him 41.3 minutes per game over his last 20 games, but fantasy owners don't mind the huge chunk of playing time he is getting.
Joakim Noah, C2/4/2014 5:20:00 PM
Description: Updating an earlier item, the NBA has fined Chicago center Joakim Noah $15,000 for his behavior Monday against the Kings.
Insight: This means Noah will not be suspended. Make sure the two-time All-Star is in your lineup tonight against Phoenix.
Joakim Noah, C2/4/2014 4:52:00 PM
Description: With a suspension looming, Bulls center Joakim Noah's status is up in the air for Tuesday's game against Phoenix.
Insight: Noah's expletive-filled tirade after his ejection Monday night in Sacramento is likely to cost him a few games. Noah could always appeal the decision but it's doubtful he'll be able to avoid at least some form of punishment. Taj Gibson would start at center if and when Noah (11.6 ppg, 11.3 rpg, 1.3 bpg) decides to accept his ban.
Joakim Noah, C2/4/2014 8:47:00 AM
Description: Chicago center Joakim Noah earned a pair of technicals early in this one and played just 18 minutes.
Insight: Noah's 18-game steak of double-digit rebounds came to a crashing end with a four-point, four rebound effort. After seeing the box score this was the best news you could get - that he wasn't injured, just stupid.
Joakim Noah, C1/29/2014 9:32:00 PM
Description: Chicago center Joakim Noah (illness) will start Wednesday's game, according to the Bulls Twitter account.
Insight: Noah missed Monday's game and said he still wasn't feeling well Wednesday afternoon, but he'll give it a go.

Insight: D.J. Augustin has outplayed Hinrich and is the more valuable member of Chicago's backcourt. Hinrich will come off the bench Wednesday.
Kirk Hinrich, G1/29/2014 8:14:00 PM
Description: Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich (hamstring) will test his hamstring in pre-game warmups Wednesday, according to Nick Friedell of espnchicago.com.
Insight: D.J. Augustin has outplayed Hinrich and is the more valuable member of Chicago's backcourt.
Joakim Noah, C1/29/2014 8:12:00 PM
Description: Chicago center Joakim Noah (illness) will warm up Wednesday and see how he feels. SOURCE: Nick Friedell, ESPN Chicago
Insight: Noah missed Monday's game and said he still wasn't feeling well Wednesday afternoon, but he hasn't had any setbacks since shootaround. Taj Gibson (12.2 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.5 bpg) stands to benefit the most from Noah's potential absence.
Joakim Noah, C1/29/2014 2:34:00 PM
Description: Chicago center Joakim Noah is still sick and will be a game-time decision Wednesday against San Antonio. SOURCE: Nick Friedell, ESPN Chicago
Insight: He missed Monday's game with the same ailment. Taj Gibson (12.2 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.5 bpg) would stand to benefit the most from Noah's potential absence.
Joakim Noah, C1/28/2014 10:31:00 AM
Description: Bulls center Joakim Noah missed Monday's game and is questionable for Wednesday's game against San Antonio.

D.J. Augustin, GHot1/25/2014 9:29:00 PM
Description: Bulls guard D.J. Augustin has averaged 22.3 ppg over his last four games.
Insight: Augustin had 28 points and six threes Saturday at Charlotte and has shockingly been a very good fantasy option since joining the Bulls. He's unlikely to give up the starting job when Kirk Hinrich returns from a hamstring injury.
Kirk Hinrich, G1/25/2014 6:12:00 PM
Description: Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich (hamstring) will miss his third straight game Saturday. SOURCE: K.C. Johnson, Chicago Tribune
Insight: D.J. Augustin has outplayed Hinrich with averages of 17.8 points, 6.9 assists, 2.8 threes and 1.0 steals over his last eight games. There's no guarantee Hinrich will get his starting job back when he's healthy.
Kirk Hinrich, G1/24/2014 6:18:00 PM
Description: The Bulls will be without Kirk Hinrich Friday against the Clippers. SOURCE: K.C. Johnson, Chicago Tribune
Insight: It's the second game he's missed with a hamstring injury. With D.J. Augustin manning the point for Chicago, Hinrich (8.0 ppg, 4.7 apg) doesn't have a very high ceiling. For fantasy purposes, it's best to avoid him for now.
Carlos Boozer, F1/24/2014 6:13:00 PM
Description: Chicago forward Carlos Boozer is officially active for Friday's game against the Clippers.
Insight: A calf injury sidelined Boozer earlier in the week. Taj Gibson (12.1 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.5 bpg), who started in Boozer's place Wednesday against Cleveland, will move back to a reserve role for Friday night's game.
Taj Gibson, F1/24/2014 1:53:00 PM
Description: Bulls F/C Taj Gibson returns to the bench with Carlos Boozer healthy again and his value takes a huge hit.
Insight: Gibson, who put up 26 points while replacing Boozer on Wednesday and averages 19 ppg and 9.3 rpg as a starter, will come off the bench where he averages 11.3 ppg and 6.2 rpg.
Carlos Boozer, F1/24/2014 1:49:00 PM
Description: Bulls power forward Carlos Boozer missed Wednesday's game with a left calf injury, but is probable for Friday's game versus the Clippers.
Insight: Taj Gibson, who put up 26 points in his place and averages 19 ppg and 9.3 rpg as a starter, will return to the bench where he averages 11.3 ppg and 6.2 rpg.
Kirk Hinrich, G1/22/2014 12:11:00 PM
Description: Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich will not play Wednesday due to a right hamstring injury. According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, coach Tom Thibodeau said Hinrich will probably be out a week.
Insight: That will lead to D.J. Augustin taking most of the minutes at point guard. Augustin has averaged 18 points, 7.0 assists, 2.7 threes and 1.3 steals his last six games and should be owned in all leagues.
Carlos Boozer, F1/22/2014 12:09:00 PM
Description: Bulls power forward Carlos Boozer will miss Wednesday's game with a left calf injury, according to the Bulls' Twitter account.
Insight: Taj Gibson, who is averaging 28 minutes, 11.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game this season despite coming off the bench in 37 of his 40 games, will likely start in Boozer's place.
Kirk Hinrich, G1/20/2014 10:59:00 PM
Description: Bulls PG Kirk Hinrich suffered a right hamstring strain during Monday's game.
Insight: D.J. Augustin has been outplaying Hinrich off the bench and the injury could lead to Augustin moving into the starting lineup.
D.J. Augustin, GHot1/20/2014 10:45:00 PM
Description: Bulls guard D.J. Augustin led the Bulls with 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting over 37 minutes Monday against the Lakers. Kirk Hinrich also suffered a right hamstring strain during the game, so we could see Augustin get even more playing time.
Insight: Seeing a productive Augustin seemed impossible after he shot 35 percent for the Pacers last year and 29.2 percent with Toronto earlier this season, but the guard has come up with 13.4 ppg, 6.4 apg, 1.4 spg and 2.1 3pg in his last 18 contests. That includes averages of 18 points, 7.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.7 threes per game over his last six games.
Joakim Noah, C1/19/2014 9:21:00 AM
Description: Bulls center Joakim Noah boosted his All-Star candidacy with a stellar performance Saturday against the Sixers.
Insight: He finished with 21 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, two steals and four blocked shots. Noah's 11.7 ppg average is almost identical to the 11.9 ppg he averaged in 2012-13. His rebounding average hasn't changed much either (11.1 rpg last season, 11.0 in 2013-14).
D.J. Augustin, GHot1/18/2014 11:55:00 AM
Description: Bulls guard D.J. Augustin tweaked his ankle in the fourth quarter of Friday night's game with Washington, but it doesn't appear to be serious.
Insight: Augustin has posted double-digit points in three of the past four games and is averaging a season's best 12.5 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 6.4 apg in January
Kirk Hinrich, G1/17/2014 9:26:00 PM
Description: Bulls PG Kirk Hinrich had 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two threes in 28 minutes Friday at Washington.
Insight: Hinrich had just 12 blocks all season prior to Friday, so don't expect the guard to suddenly become Serge Ibaka. He also scored in double figures just once in his previous 10 games before posting 18 Friday.
D.J. Augustin, GHot1/15/2014 10:32:00 PM
Description: Bulls guard D.J. Augustin provided 19 points, nine assists and three treys off the bench Wednesday.
Insight: After terrible stints with the Pacers and Raptors, Augustin has reestablished himself in Chicago by recording 11.9 points, 6.7 assists, 1.7 threes and 1.3 steals per game in his last 15 games.
Joakim Noah, CHot1/15/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: The Bulls knocked off the Magic in triple overtime Wednesday due in large part to Joakim Noah's 26 points, 19 rebounds, six assists, two blocks and one steal in 49 minutes.
Insight: Chicago improbably has won six of its last seven games despite playing without Derrick Rose and trading Luol Deng, and Noah has been a major reason why. He has snagged double-digit rebounds in 10 straight games and 18 of the last 21 while averaging 13.4 points, 12.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.2 steals in that stretch.
Carlos Boozer, F1/15/2014 6:08:00 PM

Description: Bulls power forward Carlos Boozer is headed for a game-time decision Wednesday against the Magic. SOURCE: Nick Friedell, ESPN Chicago
Insight: Boozer (14.9 ppg, 8.8 rpg) is dealing with an illness. Taj Gibson (12.0 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 1.4 bpg) would draw the start at power forward if Boozer sits out.
Nazr Mohammed, C1/13/2014 9:18:00 PM
Description: Chicago center Nazr Mohammed exited with a sprained middle finger Monday against Washington. His return is questionable. SOURCE: K.C. Johnson, Chicago Tribune
Insight: Mohammed (1.6 ppg, 2.4 rpg) has only been logging about eight minutes per game this season. There's no reason to own him in fantasy.
Jimmy Butler, G/F1/13/2014 11:25:00 AM
Description: Chicago shooting guard Jimmy Butler (quad) did not play Saturday against the Bobcats and is questionable for Monday's game against Washington.
Insight: Butler played 40 minutes Friday night despite dealing with the injury, but couldn't recover in time for Saturday. It's hoped he'll be ready for Monday. Tony Snell started for Butler, but showed no fantasy upside. Both point guards Kirk Hinrich and his backup D.J. Augustin saw 30-plus minutes.
Joakim Noah, CHot1/12/2014 2:48:00 PM
Description: Chicago center Joakim Noah has pulled down double-digit rebounds in 16 of his last 19 games while averaging 13 points, 12.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.2 steals in that stretch.
Insight: Noah extended his streak of double-digit rebounds to eight games with 14 boards Saturday night. He added 19 points, four assists and three blocks to help the Bulls win their fifth straight game.
D.J. Augustin, GHot1/12/2014 9:17:00 AM
Description: Tony Snell started, but Bulls shooting guard Jimmy Butler's absence Saturday night was most beneficial to D.J. Augustin, who played 35 minutes and had 20 points and 12 assists against the Bobcats.
Insight: After terrible stints with the Pacers and Raptors, Augustin has been successful during his stay with the Bulls. In his last 13 games, he has averaged 31 minutes, 11.8 points, 6.5 assists, 2.1 rebounds, 1.7 threes and 1.4 steals.
Jimmy Butler, G/F1/11/2014 7:56:00 PM

Description: Chicago shooting guard Jimmy Butler injured his thigh Friday night and is questionable for Saturday's game against Charlotte.
Insight: Butler played through the injury, but noticably hobbled at the end. The question is whether it will tighten up overnight. Expect him to be a game-time decision. Butler has scored double-digits in eight straight games.
Joakim Noah, C1/10/2014 2:09:00 PM
Description: Chicago center Joakim Noah has been dealing with an illness but is expected to play Friday, according to Bulls beat reporter Nick Friedell.
Insight: Noah is one of ten players in the league averaging a double-double this season. He scored 21 against the Bucks when he faced them last month. All that adds up to Noah being a must start.

Carlos Boozer, F1/9/2014 7:50:00 PM
Description: Chicago forward Carlos Boozer expects to play Friday versus Milwaukee. He sat out Wednesday's game because of a knee injury. SOURCE: Aggrey Sam, Comcast Sportsnet Chicago

Andrew Bynum, C1/7/2014 4:21:00 PM
Description: The Bulls have already waived center Andrew Bynum, according to the Chicago Tribune. Chicago traded Luol Deng to Cleveland for Bynum and three draft picks on Monday night.

After missing all of last season, Bynum signed with Cleveland and averaged 20 minutes, 8.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 24 games (19 starts) before being suspended for detrimental conduct.
Carlos Boozer, F1/7/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Chicago forward Carlos Boozer didn't play Saturday against Atlanta and isn't expected to return for Tuesday's game with Phoenix.
Insight: He's battling knee soreness. This would be Boozer's second absence of the season. Taj Gibson had 10 points and 12 rebounds filling in for him at power forward against the Hawks.
Andrew Bynum, C1/7/2014 10:25:00 AM
Description: Center Andrew Bynum and draft choices have been traded to the Chicago Bulls for small forward Luol Deng.
Insight: The Bulls are well stocked at center with Joakim Noah and Nazr Mohammed. Chicago wanted to move Deng for draft choices and it's likely that Bynum will be waived. We question whether Bynum will ever again be a fantasy-worthy center due to physical ailments and attitude problems.

Joakim Noah, CHot12/28/2013 10:21:00 PM

Description: Bulls PG Kirk Hinrich (back) missed a fourth straight game Thursday and is questionable for Saturday's game against Cleveland.
Insight: Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said that Hinrich's back hasn't improved much. Chicago will have to keep playing D.J. Augustin, who set a season-high with 15 points.
Luol Deng, F12/21/2013 10:56:00 AM
Description: Bulls small forward Luol Deng (Achilles) sat out Thursday due to ongoing issues with his Achilles and is questionable for Saturday's game against Cleveland.
Insight: Deng missed four games earlier this month with the injury before returning for the last three games. Perhaps playing Deng 37 minutes per game during the last three contests wasn't coach Tom Thibodeau's best idea. He was seen in a walking booton Friday.
Jimmy Butler, G/F12/20/2013 11:42:00 AM
Description: Bulls swingman Jimmy Butler suffered a right ankle injury during Thursday's game and left the arena on crutches which doesn't bode well for Saturday's game against Cleveland.

Description: Chicago center Joakim Noah had a big night Friday against Milwaukee.
Insight: Noah collected 21 points, 18 boards, five assists, three blocks and three steals. The 21 points and 18 rebounds were both season-highs. He'll try to do it again Saturday against the Raptors.

Description: Bulls center Joakim Noah will return to the lineup Wednesday against New York. SOURCE: Bulls on Twitter

D.J. Augustin, G12/11/2013 7:45:00 PM
Description: The Bulls signed point guard D.J. Augustin on Wednesday. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: The Raptors waived Augustin a few days ago to make room for Greivis Vasquez. He'll compete with Marquis Teague for the backup job behind starter Kirk Hinrich.

Description: Chicago forward Luol Deng won't participate in Wednesday's game against the Knicks. SOURCE: Bulls on Twitter

Description: According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said Jimmy Butler is "close" to returning from turf toe.

Description: Bulls guard Mike Dunleavy started Tuesday and had 24 points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two threes in 44 minutes of action.
Insight: Chicago has needed Dunleavy to play more lately with Luol Deng dealing with an Achilles injury. Deng's MRI ruled out structural damage, so he should be back sooner rather than later.
Joakim Noah, C12/10/2013 7:31:00 PM
Description: Chicago center Joakim Noah won't dress Tuesday against Milwaukee. SOURCE: Bulls on Twitter
Insight: He's out with a bruised thigh. It's Noah's first absence of the season. Veteran Nazr Mohammed will get the start at center, though his 1.3 ppg average shouldn't attract much fantasy interest.
Luol Deng, F12/10/2013 2:00:00 PM
Description: Bulls small forward Luol Deng is out for Tuesday's game against the Bucks. He's battling multiple injuries including a tight calf muscle and a swollen Achilles.
Insight: Deng missed shootaround today so his absence shouldn't be a surprise to fantasy owners. If the swelling in his Achilles subsides, Deng could be back in the lineup as soon as Wednesday against the Knicks.
Luol Deng, F12/9/2013 2:38:00 PM
Description: Bulls SG/SF Luol Deng is dealing with tightness in his left calf/swollen Achilles. He missed the morning shootaround, so he should probably be listed as doubtful.
Insight: If the swelling subsides he should be able to get back out on the court for the next game. He's a must start when playing - averaging 19.4 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.1 spg.

Luol Deng, FHot12/7/2013 1:55:00 PM
Description: Bulls forward Luol Deng will be a game-time decision Saturday against the Pistons after missing the morning shootaround with stiffness in his left calf.
Insight: The issue has come at a bad time for Deng, who is averaging 42 minutes, 26.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists in six games since Derrick Rose suffered another knee injury.
Jimmy Butler, G/F12/5/2013 1:20:00 PM
Description: Bulls guard Jimmy Butler is still not been able to practice and the toe injury looks like it will keep him out for another week.
Insight: What was supposed to be a 2-3 week injury has already hit the three-week mark and he's not back on the practice floor. Tony Snell will continue to get the starts.
Jimmy Butler, G/F12/1/2013 10:12:00 AM
Description: Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said guard Jimmy Butler is "two steps away" from returning from turf toe, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Insight: Butler has missed six straight games and is looking at another week or two of missed action. Tony Snell will continue to start at shooting guard.

Description: Bulls G/F Tony Snell had a career-high 18 points with four rebounds, two assists, one steal and three threes over 35 minutes Saturday against the Cavaliers.
Insight: Snell has started the last three games at shooting guard and should continue to play 30-plus minutes per game until Jimmy Butler returns to action.
Luol Deng, FHot11/30/2013 9:59:00 PM
Description: The Bulls lost to the Cavaliers Saturday despite forward Luol Deng's 27 points. Deng has scored at least 22 points in each of his last four games and is averaging 25 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 6.0 apg in that span.
Insight: Deng will have to continue to score like this if the Bulls are going to have any shot of making the playoffs without Derrick Rose. With Rose out last season, Deng averaged 16.5 points on 14.6 shots per game. In 15 games this season, he's averaging 14.9 attempts and 18.2 points per game. He's also taking a career-high 5.0 free throws per game and has made 85.3 percent, also a career best.
Luol Deng, FHot11/27/2013 10:36:00 PM
Description: Bulls forward Luol Deng made 11-of-17 from the floor for 27 points with six boards, five dimes, two steals and one block Wednesday at Detroit.
Insight: Deng has scored at least 22 points in three straight games and averaged 22 points and 8.0 rebounds over the last four. With Derrick Rose out for the season, look for Deng to at least duplicate last season's coring average of 16.5 ppg. He's currently at 17.6 ppg.
Derrick Rose, G11/25/2013 2:43:00 PM
Description: The updated news on Bulls point guard Derrick Rose is he will have surgery to repair his torn meniscus, not remove it, Monday in Chicago.
Insight: The procedure will be performed by Dr. Brian Cole, the same doctor who operated on Rose's torn ACL back in 2012. Rose will be out for the season.

Derrick Rose, G11/24/2013 1:44:00 PM
Description: According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, Derrick Rose's preference would be to have his meniscus reattached.
Insight: A procedure of that nature would likely cost him the rest of the season. Russell Westbrook had a similar procedure and was able to return to action in about six months. Backup Kirk Hinrich will have a chance to shine now that Rose is out for the forseeable future.
Derrick Rose, G11/24/2013 11:15:00 AM
Description: Bulls guard Derrick Rose isn't waiting for a second opinion on his injured right knee. He's going to have surgery in the near future. SOURCE: K.C. Johnson, Chicago Tribune
Insight: We'll be able to get a better feel for Rose's recovery timetable after the operation. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect to see Rose on a basketball court any time soon.
Derrick Rose, G11/23/2013 6:51:00 PM
Description: After talking to a medical source, ESPN's Pablo Torre tweeted that Derrick Rose's timetable for a torn meniscus could be anywhere from 2-to-3 weeks to over four months.
Insight: If doctors are able to cut out the torn part of Rose's meniscus, he should be back relatively soon. If they opt to repair the meniscus instead, he could be facing a very lengthy recovery. ESPN's Marc Stein hears that the Bulls are moving forward as if Rose will be out for the rest of the season.
Derrick Rose, G11/23/2013 5:44:00 PM
Description: Chicago point guard Derrick Rose is out indefinitely with a torn meniscus in his right knee. SOURCE: NBA.com
Insight: He's going to need surgery. Though no timetable has been given for his return, it's obviously a huge blow to the Bulls' title hopes. In the mean time, Kirk Hinrich will have to fill in as the starting point guard. He probably isn't fantasy material.
Luol Deng, F11/23/2013 9:48:00 AM
Description: Bulls forward Luol Deng had 15 points and 14 boards over 43 minutes Friday night at Portland.
Insight: Deng has pulled down 13.5 rpg the last two games and 7.7 rpg this season to go with 15.7 ppg, 3.2 apg and 1.4 steals per game. His scoring average will likely increase a bit once he improves his .172 3-point percentage (career .330 3-point shooter).
Derrick Rose, G11/23/2013 9:25:00 AM
Description: The Bulls fear Derrick Rose suffered a torn right ACL Friday night, according to Jordan Bernfield of wgnradio.com.
Insight: Rose reportedly cannot put any weight on his right knee and will undergo an MRI Saturday. Even though the injury is to a different knee than his last torn ACL, another injury of that magnitude would be devastating to Rose's career and the Bulls franchise.
Mike Dunleavy, G11/21/2013 9:14:00 PM
Description: Bulls guard Mike Dunleavy will join the starting lineup Thursday at Denver, according to Nick Friedell of espnchicago.com.
Insight: With Jimmy Butler out for 2-3 weeks with a toe injury, Dunleavy and Kirk Hinrich were in consideration for the starting job. Butler has played 30 minutes per game this season, so Dunleavy could have decent fantasy value for owners seeking threes.
Jimmy Butler, G/F11/20/2013 4:12:00 PM
Description: Chicago swingman Jimmy Butler was diagnosed with a sprained toe. SOURCE: Nick Friedell, ESPN Chicago
Insight: Early reports suggest he'll be out 2-to-3 weeks. Kirk Hinrich and Mike Dunleavy should pick up most of the slack at shooting guard while Butler is sidelined.
Jimmy Butler, F11/19/2013 5:44:00 PM
Description: Bulls guard Jimmy Butler will have an MRI on his toe.
Insight: Butler, who suffered the toe injury Monday, missed Tuesday's practice and is questionable for Thursday's game. Mike Dunleavy and Kirk Hinrich would fill in for Butler if he has to miss time.
Kirk Hinrich, G11/18/2013 3:22:00 PM
Description: Bulls backup point guard Kirk Hinrich could start playing more alongside Derrick Rose.
Insight: The two played well in the Bulls' upset of previously unbeaten Indiana and using Rose at the off guard could save wear and tear on his body. If Hinrich can play more than his current 27 mpg he could improve on his 8.6 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 4.5 apg averages.
Derrick Rose, G11/16/2013 10:26:00 PM
Description: Chicago guard Derrick Rose, who missed Friday's game due to a hamstring injury, knocked down six threes and scored 20 points Saturday to hand Indiana its first loss.

Derrick Rose, G11/16/2013 6:37:00 PM
Description: Chicago guard Derrick Rose (hamstring) will return to the lineup Saturday against the Pacers.
Insight: Rose suffered a hamstring injury Monday and missed Friday's game. The point guard is only shooting 33.3 percent and averaging 14.7 points after missing all of last season, but it's only a matter of time before he breaks out.

Derrick Rose, G11/15/2013 10:39:00 AM
Description: Bulls point guard Derrick Rose (hamstring), who has now missed his team's last two practices, is questionable to play Friday night versus Toronto.
Insight: Rose suffered a hamstring injury Monday. With the Bulls playing back-to-back, the team might only let him play one of the two despite his wanting to play them both. Stay tuned.

Description: Bulls point guard Derrick Rose (hamstring) has now missed his team's last two practices, but is still expected to play Friday night against Denver.

Description: The Bulls are listing Derrick Rose as day-to-day with a sore right hamstring. He suffered the injury late in Monday's game.
Insight: Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau called the injury "minor" Monday night and Tuesday's reevaluation confirmed that. Rose expects to play Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Derrick Rose, G11/11/2013 10:45:00 PM
Description: Chicago guard Derrick Rose tweaked his right hamstring late in Monday's game against the Cavaliers.
Insight: Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau called the injury "minor" and said Rose will be reevaluated Tuesday, according to Nick Friedell of ESPNChicago.com. Rose has struggled in his return to the court this season after missing all of 2012-13; he's made just 32-of-96 (.333) from the field this season after going 8-of-21 Monday and hasn't had 20 points in any game.
Jimmy Butler, F11/8/2013 10:32:00 PM
Description: After scoring 20 points in the season opener, Jimmy Butler has averaged 8.0 ppg his last four games.
Insight: Butler has seen his points decline by two in each of the last three, going from 11 in the second game to five Friday against Utah. He's still grabbing rebounds and picking up blocks and steals, but any hope that he would reach 15 ppg this season has quickly gone out the window.
Derrick Rose, GCold11/2/2013 2:37:00 PM
Description: Chicago guard Derrick Rose (neck) participated in shootaround Saturday morning and should be able to play Saturday against the surprising 76ers.
Insight: Rose missed shootaround Thursday due to his sore neck but still played 34 minutes that night against the Knicks. He shot just 11-of-38 (.289) from the field in his first two games.
Derrick Rose, G10/31/2013 7:05:00 PM
Description: Chicago guard Derrick Rose is expected to suit up Thursday against New York despite missing shootaround this morning with a sore neck. SOURCE: Bulls.com
Insight: Rose had an off-shooting night in the opener (4-of-15 from the field). Kirk Hinrich could see time at point guard if Rose is limited.
Derrick Rose, G10/31/2013 11:27:00 AM
Description: Bulls point guard Derrick Rose didn't look good in the season opener against Miami, but the most important news is that he came out of the game healthy.
Insight: The former MVP struggled with his shot (4-for-15 from the field for 12 points) and gave the ball away far too often (five turnovers). Rose had a strong exhibition season and fantasy owners should expect a return to that level of production.
Joakim Noah, C10/29/2013 11:05:00 PM
Description: Bulls center Joakim Noah (groin) started the season opener against Miami but only played 20 minutes.
Insight: Noah's groin improved enough for him to play on Tuesday, but he's clearly not 100 percent.
Jimmy Butler, F10/29/2013 11:03:00 PM
Description: Bulls two-guard Jimmy Butler had 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting, three rebounds, three assists, five steals, one block and two threes in the season opener Tuesday at Miami.
Insight: Butler flashed this type of potential late last season. He won't score like this every game but he should be among the league leaders in steals.
Derrick Rose, G10/29/2013 10:55:00 PM
Description: Derrick Rose looked shaky Tuesday in his first regular season game since 2012.
Insight: The former MVP struggled with his shot (4-for-15 from the field for 12 points) and gave the ball away far too often (five turnovers). To be fair, he was playing against the best team in basketball at their home arena. Rose should be back to his old ways soon enough.
Carlos Boozer, F10/29/2013 10:51:00 PM
Description: Carlos Boozer led the Bulls with 31 points on 13-of-18 shooting Tuesday night against Miami.
Insight: Boozer was one of the only bright spots in what ended up being a disappointing opener for Chicago. The veteran power forward won't score 30 every night but he should average close to a double-double this season.
Joakim Noah, C10/29/2013 10:56:00 AM
Description: Bulls center Joakim Noah's groin injury has vastly improved over the past few days and he's now probable Tuesday's game against Miami.
Insight: Noah has struggled with injuries his whole career (66 or fewer games played in each of his last four seasons) so the Bulls played it pretty conservative in the preseason. Noah was one of eight players in the league to average double-digit points and rebounds last season. He's a must start.
Kirk Hinrich, G10/29/2013 10:53:00 AM
Description: Bulls backup point guard Kirk Hinrich (concussion and shoulder injury) has been upgraded to probable for Tuesday's game against Miami.
Insight: Hinrich practiced Sunday and Monday and should be ready to go. He'll be coming off the bench this season behind starters Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler and won't be a good a fantasy value this season.
Kirk Hinrich, G10/25/2013 4:33:00 PM
Description: Bulls backup point guard Kirk Hinrich is dealing with a concussion and should injury which has him listed as doubtful for the season opener.
Insight: Derrick Rose and Marquis Teague will cover the point guard position.
Jimmy Butler, F10/25/2013 4:30:00 PM
Description: Chicago shooting guard Jimmy Butler (bruised left knee) played 32 minutes in Wednesday's exhibition game and should be ready for the season opener Tuesday night.
Insight: Butler will be the team's starting shooting guard. With the Bulls wrecked by injuries last April, Butler averaged 14.6 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.7 apg in 10 contests, but the return of Derrick Rose Luol Deng and Joakim Noah will likely limit Butler's fantasy value in 2013-14.
Joakim Noah, C10/24/2013 2:57:00 PM
Description: Bulls center Joakim Noah admits that his groin injury could keep him out of Tuesday's season opener. SOURCE: ESPN Chicago
Insight: Noah has struggled with injuries his whole career (66 or fewer games played in each of his last four seasons) so the Bulls seem to be playing it pretty conservative. Noah was one of eight players in the league to average double-digit points and rebounds last season.
Derrick Rose, G10/18/2013 10:56:00 PM
Description: Bulls point guard Derrick Rose (knee) poured in 32 points with nine assists, four rebounds and four threes in 32 minutes in Friday's preseason game against the Pacers.
Insight: It was an eye-opening performance for Rose doubters just one week after he was dealing with left knee soreness. The point guard appears to be ready to go and will be drafted in the first or second round of all fantasy drafts.
Derrick Rose, G10/18/2013 4:42:00 PM
Description: Bulls point guard Derrick Rose (knee) will play again Friday night.
Insight: Rose sat out last Saturday due to knee soreness but the team called it precautionary and he returned to action Wednesday night. That he's able to play again just two days later is a good sign.
Joakim Noah, C10/18/2013 2:51:00 PM
Description: Bulls center Joakim Noah has a sore groin and is expected to be shut down for a week, according to Chicago Bulls beat reporter Nick Friedell.
Insight: Noah struggled with injuries for a while now (66 or less games played in each of the past four seasons) so the team is likely playing it extremely conservatively. Hopefully, he'll be ready when the bell rings.
Derrick Rose, G10/16/2013 7:19:00 PM
Description: Bulls point guard Derrick Rose (knee) returned to action Wednesday against the Pistons.
Insight: Rose sat out Saturday due to knee soreness but the Bulls called it a precautionary move. It's encouraging to see him back in there so quickly.
Jimmy Butler, F10/16/2013 7:15:00 PM
Description: Chicago small forward Jimmy Butler's MRI revealed a bruise on his left knee, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.
Insight: Butler sat out Wednesday's preseason game after dealing with some soreness during Saturday's game. He should be ready for the start of the season and is expected to serve as Chicago's starting two-guard.
Derrick Rose, G10/12/2013 3:55:00 PM
Description: Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will miss Saturday's preseason game due to left knee soreness, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.
Insight: The Bulls say it's precautionary, but it's certainly worrisome after Rose missed all of last season due to his torn left ACL. It's a reminder that fantasy owners cannot expect Chicago to turn Rose loose right away. Stay away from him in the first round of fantasy drafts; there are safer stars available.
Derrick Rose, G10/6/2013 5:12:00 PM
Description: Bulls point guard Derrick Rose (knee) felt no soreness a day after getting back on the court after a 17-month layoff, according to Chicago Bulls beat reporter Nick Friedell.
Insight: Rose returned to the court for Saturday's preseason opener and had 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting with two rebounds, three assists and two steals in 21 minutes of play.
Derrick Rose, G10/5/2013 9:56:00 PM
Description: Bulls point guard Derrick Rose (knee) returned to the court for Saturday's preseason opener and had 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting with two rebounds, three assists and two steals in 21 minutes of play. It was his first game action since tearing his ACL in April 2012.
Insight: Rose had not been on the court in more than 17 months, but he looked like his old self. His knee has been 100 percent for awhile but the point guard had to get over the mental aspects of his injury and it appears he has done that.
Derrick Rose, G9/27/2013 2:50:00 PM
Description: Bulls point guard Derrick Rose (ACL, MCL) is expected to be ready for the exhibition season, according to the Bulls site.
Insight: Expect some ups and downs as he works the rust of missing an entire season off his game. Rose was medically cleared in early spring of 2013, but he apparently wasn't mentally ready and sat out the entire playoffs. He owns a career 21.0 ppg scoring average with 3.8 rpg and 7.9 apg and is a top fantasy guard when at 100 percent.
