Description: Boston coach Danny Ainge said on a radio appearance Thursday that point guard Rajon Rondo probably won't play back-to-backs for the rest of the season, according to Baxter Holmes of the Boston Globe.
Insight: Rondo has averaged 34.6 minutes, 14.4 points, 10.2 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.4 threes since the start of February, but he sat out four games in that span. The Celtics have four more back-to-backs in their last 17 games.
Description: Boston point guard Rajon Rondo will sit out Wednesday in the second game of a back-to-back.
Insight: Rondo has averaged 34.6 minutes, 14.4 points, 10.2 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.4 threes since the start of February, but he still hasn't progressed to playing back-to-backs yet. Phil Pressey will start in his place Wednesday against the Knicks.
Description: Boston point guard Rajon Rondo logged a season-high 41 minutes on Tuesday, though he wasn't able to do much with it.
Insight: Rondo (eight points, eight assists, three rebounds) didn't come out the entire second half. With Rondo scheduled to rest Wednesday against the Knicks, head coach Brad Stevens knew he could give him a heavy workload. Phil Pressey (2.3 ppg) will start in Rondo's place tomorrow night.
Description: Boston PF/C Kris Humphries had one of his best games of the season Sunday against Detroit (20 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, two blocks).
Insight: He's actually been seeing a lot of minutes lately (26.5 mpg over his last four appearances). With that said, Humphries had just nine points combined in his previous two outings and can't be relied on for consistent fantasy production. He's unlikely to be back with the Celtics next season.
Description: Celtics C/PF Kelly Olynyk was productive Sunday in a win against Detroit.
Insight: Olynyk (7.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg) put up 18 points in 18 minutes, giving him a point per minute. He also added six rebounds and two assists. He's been a pleasant surprise for the Celtics and should have a chance to make the All-Rookie team.
Description: Boston guard Rajon Rondo was feeling generous Sunday in a win against the Pistons (18 assists in 33 minutes).
Insight: That's a season-high for Rondo and his most assists in a game since November 17, 2012 (20 against Toronto). The four-time All-Star has registered a double-double in four of his last six games.
Description: Celtics forward Jeff Green was on target Sunday against Detroit.
Insight: Green blew up for 27 points on 11-for-19 shooting. At one point, he was 5-of-9 from deep though he came up empty on his last three attempts. He's averaged 18.3 ppg in four appearances this month.
Description: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo (20 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, four steals) was impressive Friday in a win over Brooklyn.
Insight: Rondo (12.2 ppg, 8.2 apg) is quietly rounding into form. The C's are going nowhere this season but if Rondo stays and Boston lands a top-five pick in the draft, this team could be in the playoff mix in 2015.
Description: Celtics guard Avery Bradley is expected to miss the next two weeks with a bruised ankle. SOURCE: Boston Herald
Insight: Bradley's MRI came back negative. The Celtics are angling for a high draft pick and won't be rushing Bradley back into action. With Gerald Wallace out for the season, Jerryd Bayless (8.6 ppg) has emerged as the team's best option at shooting guard.
Description: Boston G/F Gerald Wallace had successful knee and ankle surgery on Tuesday. SOURCE: Celtics on Twitter
Insight: Obviously, he's lost for the season. Wallace (5.1 ppg, 3.7 rpg) gave the Celtics very little in his 58 games this season and is unlikely to be re-signed. His days of being a helpful fantasy contributor are over.
Description: Boston guard Avery Bradley (ankle) will have an MRI Wednesday, according to A. Sherrod Blakely of csnne.com.
Insight: Bradley sprained his ankle twice the week prior to the All-Star break and will have missed 15 of the last 18 games if he sits out Wednesday. The guard told coach Brad Stevens that he feels "much better" this time around compared to his first return from the injury.
Description: Boston guard Rajon Rondo flirted with a triple-double Saturday versus the Pacers.
Insight: Rondo collected 12 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds in a season-high 38 minutes of court time. The Celtics point guard drilled three of his six three-point attempts in the contest. He's shooting a career-high 36.4 percent from that distance this season.
Description: Boston center Kelly Olynyk (toe) is doubtful for Saturday's game against Indiana, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.
Insight: He sat out Wednesday with a toe injury after scoring 21 points with eight rebounds and four assists on Feb. 24. The team is expected to get Jared Sullinger back from a concussion Saturday so Olynyk won't have any fantasy value when he returns to the lineup.
Description: Boston guard Avery Bradley (ankle) will be reevaluated next week at some point, according to the Celtics on Twitter.
Insight: Bradley sprained his ankle twice the week prior to the All-Star break and will have missed nine of the last 10 games after sitting out Saturday. Coach Brad Stevens said Bradley will be checked out in the middle of next week or later, so he may also have to sit out next Wednesday and Friday too. Jerryd Bayless has averaged 19.3 ppg his last three games and should continue to see big minutes with both Bradley and Gerald Wallace out.
Description: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo had a season-high 22 points to go with 11 assists and three steals in 36 minutes Wednesday against the Hawks.
Insight: Rondo irked team officials when he stayed behind in Los Angeles on Saturday for his birthday celebration while the team traveled to Sacramento. The point guard wasn't going to play anyway Saturday because it was a back-to-back, but he may face a fine. There hasn't been anything wrong with his play this month, however, as he has averaged 15.3 points, 9.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
Description: Boston coach Brad Stevens said Avery Bradley (ankle) is doing "much better" but still out through Saturday, according to beat writer Scott Souza.
Insight: Bradley sprained his ankle twice the week prior to the All-Star break and will have missed nine of the last 10 games after sitting out Wednesday and Saturday. Jerryd Bayless will start Wednesday, with Gerald Wallace moving to the bench.
Description: Celtics center Jared Sullinger is not expected to play Wednesday against the Hawks, according to Baxter Holmes of the Boston Globe.
Insight: Sullinger suffered a concussion Friday against the Lakers. Kris Humphries started the last two games in his place and averaged 28.5 minutes, 14 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals. He should have another good night against Atlanta's thin front line.
Description: According to the Boston Herald, Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo did not have permission to leave the team for his birthday celebration in Los Angeles this past weekend.
Insight: Rondo hasn't been playing back-to-backs so he was never going to play Saturday against the Kings. The fact that he stayed behind in Los Angeles and didn't at least cheer his teammates on from the bench in Sacramento has rubbed some people the wrong way. We'll see if this results in a fine or any other type of discipline for Rondo.
Description: According to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, the Celtics have no plans to buyout Kris Humphries.
Insight: Instead, Boston will allow him to leave in free agency at the end of the year. Humphries had one of his best games this season Saturday in a loss to Sacramento (19 points, eight boards in 36 minutes). He could be worth adding if Jared Sullinger's head injury keeps him out for an extended period.
Description: With Boston center Jared Sullinger (concussion) out, Kris Humphries will get another start in the post on Monday night.
Insight: Humphries came up big Saturday night with 19 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Utah center Derrick Favors will likely not play leaving the Jazz vulnerable in the middle and making Humphries a viable fantasy option.
Description: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo did not play Saturday night but is probable for Monday's game against Utah.
Insight: Rondo is off his minutes restriction and has averaged 13.7 points, 9.7 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals in six February games, but still misses a game when the team plays on back-to-back nights.
Description: With Jared Sullinger (concussion) out Saturday night, Boston center Kris Humphries played 36 minutes and had 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals.
Insight: Humphries had some fantasy usefulness when he averaged 25.9 minutes, 10.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks from Dec. 31 to Jan. 21, but even with Saturday's performance he has recorded just 19.5 minutes, 7.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 0.6 blocks per game in his last 14. Sullinger's concussion was minor so Humphries isn't likely to stay in the starting lineup for long.
Description: Boston center Jared Sullinger suffered a mild concussion during the fourth quarter Friday, according to the Celtics on Twitter.
Insight: We found out earlier that Sullinger would miss Saturday's game after taking a blow to the head Friday, so the fact that he has a concussion isn't surprising. The 21-year-old big man has been tearing it up, averaging 31.7 minutes, 16.2 points, 11.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks over his last nine games. Kris Humphries, Brandon Bass and Kelly Olynyk will absorb Sullinger's minutes.
Description: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo will not play Saturday night against Sacramento.
Insight: Rondo is off his minutes restriction and has averaged 13.7 points, 9.7 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals in six February games, but he is still being kept under wraps. Perhaps in hopes of a better draft position in June.
Description: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo said he's not ready to play in back-to-back games, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.
Insight: Rondo is off his minutes restriction and has averaged 14.5 points, 9.3 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals in February, but he still hasn't played both ends of a back-to-back. It looks like Rondo will miss either Friday's or Saturday's game.
Description: Boston guard Avery Bradley (ankle) will miss at least the next four games, according to the Celtics on Twitter.
Insight: Bradley sprained his ankle twice the week prior to the All-Star break and has missed three of the past four games. Bradley's backup, Jerryd Bayless, played 25 minutes last Wednesday and had 11 points, nine assists and five rebounds.
Description: Celtics center Kelly Olynyk has recorded the first two double-doubles of his career in the last two games.
Insight: Olynyk had 15 points and 10 boards over 31 minutes Wednesday against the Spurs after putting up 14 and 11 in 21 minutes Monday. Olynyk could see big minutes after the All-Star break if veterans Brandon Bass and Kris Humphries are traded, but while they are still on the team he probably won't put up fantasy-worthy numbers.
Description: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo will play Wednesday against the Spurs, according to A. Sherrod Blakely of csnne.com.
Insight: Rondo is off his minutes restriction and has averaged 14 points, 11 assists, 7.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals in February, but he still hasn't played both ends of a back-to-back. We'll see if the team allows him to do that after the All-Star break. Boston's next back-to-back is Feb. 21-22.
Description: Boston guard Avery Bradley didn't play Monday and is expected to miss Wednesday's game against San Antonio.
Insight: He's dealing with a badly sprained ankle. The Celtics are playing for the lottery right now so they'll give Bradley (14.3 ppg) as much time as he needs to recover. Gerald Wallace (4.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.5 apg) has been filling in at shooting guard.
Description: Jeff Green led a late fourth quarter charge as the Celtics escaped Milwaukee with a 16-point victory on Monday night.
Insight: Boston outscored the Bucks 32-18 in the final frame after being neck and neck for the first three quarters. Green had a lot to do with that as 11 of his game-high 29 points came in the game's final 12 minutes. The 27-year-old has averaged 25 ppg over his last four appearances. Make sure Green is in your lineup Wednesday when the C's host San Antonio.
Description: Boston guard Avery Bradley won't be available Monday against the Bucks. SOURCE: Gary Washburn, Boston Globe
Insight: He's headed for an MRI on his ailing ankle. The Celtics are playing for the lottery right now so they'll give Bradley (14.3 ppg) as much time as he needs to recover. Gerald Wallace (4.7 ppg, 3.6 rpg) will take over the shooting guard duties while he's out.
Description: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo will miss Monday's game against Milwaukee.
Insight: Whatever minutes limit Rondo was on earlier in the year is obviously gone after he played 37 minutes on Sunday. Rondo is still sitting out back-to-backs so he'll have the night off on Monday. Expect rookie Phil Pressey (2.2 ppg, 2.6 apg) to start in his place.
Description: Boston center Jared Sullinger ran his double-double streak to five in a row Sunday against Dallas.
Insight: Barely. Sullinger finished with 11 points, his lowest since an eight-point outing against the Knicks on January 24th. Regardless, Sullinger has been a fantasy goliath recently, averaging 21.2 ppg, 13.4 rpg and 1.2 bpg over his last five contests. He's finally reached must-start status in all formats.
Description: Brad Stevens let Rajon Rondo loose Sunday in a loss to Dallas.
Insight: Whatever minutes limit Rondo was on earlier in the year didn't seem to be in play Sunday as the star point guard went off for 15 points, five rebounds and 12 assists in 37 minutes of action. Obviously, the 37 minutes were a season-high. Rondo will have the night off Monday but he should be ready to go Wednesday versus San Antonio. He's a must-start in all formats.
Description: Comcast Sportsnet's A. Sherrod Blakely reports that Boston guard Avery Bradley will be available for Sunday night's tilt against the Mavericks.
Insight: Bradley aggravated his sprained ankle Wednesday in a win over Philadelphia. Luckily for fantasy owners, it only caused him to miss one game. Though not a polished offensive player yet, Bradley is still good for double-digit points most nights. He's also a capable defender with a career average of just under one steal per game (0.9 spg in 190 NBA contests).
Description: According to MassLive's Jay King, Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo called his knee "fine" after sitting out Friday's game, but he does not know whether he'll play Sunday.
Insight: Rondo is dealing with general soreness. Celtics coach Brad Stevens indicated the team will make a decision on Rondo's status Sunday around 3:15 p.m. rather than wait for the 6 p.m. ET start. If he plays Sunday, Rondo will most likely sit out the following day at Milwaukee.
Description: Celtics center Jared Sullinger matched DeMarcus Cousins Friday night in a battle of top big men.
Insight: Sullinger torched the Kings for a career-high 31 points on 14-for-24 shooting. He also corralled 16 rebounds as Boston won for the third time in a row. Cousins posted the same exact numbers (31 points, 16 boards) in the losing effort.
Description: According to MassLive's Jay King, the Celtics expect Rajon Rondo to play Sunday against Dallas but sit out Monday versus the Bucks.
Insight: Rondo is beginning to round into form, averaging 11.8 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.8 spg and 8.5 apg in his last five appearances. With that said, head coach Brad Stevens still isn't taking any chances with Rondo's knee, which means he's likely to sit out back-to-backs the rest of the season. Keeping Rondo out might also have something to do with Boston's desire to land a top pick in this year's draft.
Description: Celtics shooting guard Avery Bradley will miss Friday's game versus the Kings after aggravating an ankle injury Wednesday against the Sixers. SOURCE: A. Sherrod Blakely, Comcast Sportsnet New England
Insight: This marks Bradley's sixth absence of the season. Gerald Wallace is going to be filling in at shooting guard. He's averaging 6.9 ppg as a starter this season.
Description: Boston guard Rajon Rondo won't participate in Friday's game against Sacramento. SOURCE: A. Sherrod Blakely, Comcast Sportsnet New England
Insight: Head coach Brad Stevens says Rondo is suffering from "general soreness" and has not suffered a setback in his comeback from knee surgery. Rookie Phil Pressey (2.2 ppg, 2.6 apg) will get the start at point guard for the struggling Celtics (3-7 in their last ten).
Description: Boston point guard Rajon Rondo is questionable for Friday's game against Sacramento with what is being labeled "general soreness."
Insight: Rondo ended up with eight points, 11 assists and nine rebounds while logging a season-high 32 minutes Wednesday against the Sixers. The minutes limit from last month appears to be gone, but check back to verify that he'll be in the lineup.
Description: Boston point guard Rajon Rondo flirted with a triple-double Wednesday against Philadelphia.
Insight: Rondo ended up with eight points, 11 assists and nine rebounds while logging a season-high 32 minutes. His minutes limit is beginning to disappear, which means fantasy owners should probably be starting Rondo on a nightly basis. Look for the four-time All-Star to have another big game Friday against the Kings.
Description: Boston small forward Jeff Green dominated the Sixers for 36 points Wednesday in Philadelphia.
Insight: Here are Green's point totals from his last seven games: 39, 16, 8, 14, 18, 8, 36. The point is, Green is INCREDIBLY inconsistent. Some nights he looks like LeBron James. Other nights he looks like he should be playing in the D-League. Fantasy owners will get another chance to roll the dice with him Friday when the C's host Sacramento.
Description: Celtics forward Brandon Bass' 36 minutes Sunday were his most since Dec. 13.
Insight: Bass scored 19 points with nine rebounds and a block against Orlando, his former team. The 28-year-old recently regained the starting power forward job from Kris Humphries but coach Brad Stevens frequently changes his lineup.
Description: Celtics guard Rajon Rondo had his best game of the season Sunday versus the Magic.
Insight: Rondo showed no ill effects from his ACL injury, torching Orlando for 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting. He also contributed six rebounds, ten assists and three steals. Boston doesn't play again until Wednesday against the Sixers.
Description: Boston guard Avery Bradley will return to the lineup Sunday after sitting out five games with a sprained ankle. SOURCE: Celtics on Twitter
Insight: Bradley and Rajon Rondo (6.7 ppg, 5.7 apg) have only played together three times this season so it will be interesting Sunday to see if the chemistry is still there. Bradley is having his best season, averaging a career-high 14.5 ppg on 43.9 percent shooting. He was named to the All-Defensive team last season.
Description: Celtics guard Avery Bradley (14.5 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.4 apg) practiced Friday and should be upgraded to probable for Sunday.
Insight: Bradley will end up missing five and a half games. The Celtics have started Gerald Wallace at shooting guard in Bradley's absence, but Crash has done little that could be considered fantasy worthy in this role.
Description: Celtics guard Avery Bradley (14.5 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.4 apg) was expected to miss a "couple of weeks" with a sprained right ankle, but is close to returning and should be considered questionable for Sunday, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.
Insight: The Celtics have started Gerald Wallace at shooting guard in Bradley's absence, but Crash has done little that could be considered fantasy worthy in this role.
Description: Boston PF/C Jared Sullinger put up 24 points and 17 rebounds Wednesday against the 76ers.
Insight: Sullinger had averaged 22 minutes, 5.3 ppg and 4.0 rpg his previous three games. He's still struggling offensively, making just 9-of-25 from the field Wednesday and 36 percent over his last 20 games.
Description: Boston point guard Rajon Rondo will start Tuesday's game versus the Knicks. According to MassLive's Jay King, he might also play Wednesday against the Sixers. Rondo sat out the second game of a back-to-back last week versus the Wizards.
Insight: The C's have been taking it slow with Rondo (6.6 ppg, 5.8 apg, 4.2 rpg) and we may not see him play his full allotment of minutes until after the All-Star break. Luckily for fantasy owners, that's only two weeks away.
Description: Celtics floor general Rajon Rondo is likely to miss one of Boston's next two games. Rondo hasn't been playing to back-to-backs since his return from ACL surgery.
Insight: Rondo played a season-high 30 minutes in Sunday's loss to Brooklyn and came close to a triple-double (13 points, eight rebounds, eight assists). Unfortunately, he also committed a team-high six turnovers. Boston's next two games are against New York and Philadelphia.
Description: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo played 30 minutes Sunday against the Nets, his most since returning to the lineup on Jan. 17. He had 13 points, eight assists, eight rebounds and two threes, all season highs.
Insight: Rondo is rounding into shape after recovering from a torn ACL. He still hasn't found his shot, as he made just 5-of-14 from the field Sunday and 14-of-48 (.292) in his first five games this season.
Description: Celtics forward Brandon Bass returned to the starting lineup and had 17 points, eight rebounds and one steal while making 6-of-6 from the field over 34 minutes Sunday against the Nets.
Insight: Bass replaced Kris Humphries, who played just 18 minutes. It's unclear if this is a long-term switch or one based on the opponent. Humphries came in averaging 26 minutes, 10.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks over his last 14 games (10 starts).
Description: Boston guard Jerryd Bayless was expected to miss the next 7-10 days due to a sprained right big toe, but was a limited participant in Saturday's practice, so we can't completely rule him out.
Insight: Boston acquired Bayless from Memphis in a three-team trade that also included Oklahoma City and he has averaged 7.1 ppg, 1.3 rpg, 3.0 apg in eight games.
Description: Despite the trade rumors surrounding him, Celtics guard Rajon Rondo says he could see himself finishing his career in Boston. SOURCE: Chris Forsberg, ESPN Boston
Insight: "I wouldn't mind extending another ten years in Boston," Rondo said Friday before his game against Oklahoma City. It's not really up to Rondo whether he gets to stay but it's a sign of personal growth that he's willing to go along with Danny Ainge's rebuilding process rather than bolting for a contender like some players would. Rondo was named the 15th captain in Celtics history earlier this month.
Description: Boston C/PF Jared Sullinger dislocated his right index finger in the first half of Friday's game against Oklahoma City. He returned to the game but only for a brief period. SOURCE: Baxter Holmes, Boston Globe
Insight: The Celtics shouldn't count on having him back for the second half. Look for backup power forward Brandon Bass (10.8 ppg, 5.9 rpg) to fill the void.
Description: As expected, Boston point guard Rajon Rondo is back in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Oklahoma City. SOURCE: Sean Grande, CBS Sports
Insight: He sat out Wednesday just to get a breather after playing three games in a row. Rondo hasn't played more than 26 minutes in any of his three games this season. He's still on a minutes limit after missing most of the first half with a torn ACL.
Description: Celtics guard Rajon Rondo did not play Wednesday against the Wizards because it was the second day of a back-to-back, but he should be back in the lineup on Friday.
Insight: Rondo failed to make a shot on eight attempts Tuesday and has hit only 7-of-27 (.259) from the field in three games since making his season debut. He's also on a minutes limit which make it tough to rely on him for fantasy. Keep looking.
Description: Jeff Green led the Celtics with a season-high 39 points Wednesday against Washington.
Insight: Green's eight three-pointers were a career-high. Though he hasn't been consistent, Green still leads the team in scoring at 16.2 ppg. His eligibility at multiple positions (shooting guard, small forward and even power forward in some formats) makes him a useful player to own in fantasy.
Description: Fantasy owners should expect to see plenty of Chris Johnson Wednesday when the Celtics play the Wizards.
Insight: After signing a 10-day contract, Johnson had 11 points, three rebounds, one steal and two threes over 25 minutes Tuesday in his first game with Boston. The team will play without Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley and Jerryd Bayless on Wednesday and will have to rely on Phil Pressey and Johnson in the backcourt with Jeff Green also seeing time at the two.
Description: Celtics guard Rajon Rondo will not play Wednesday against the Wizards because it is the second day of a back-to-back, according to Baxter Holmes of the Boston Globe.
Insight: Rondo failed to make a shot on eight attempts Tuesday and has hit only 7-of-27 (.259) from the field in three games since making his season debut. However, the team insists his absence Wednesday has nothing to do with the slump.
Description: Celtics guard Avery Bradley will miss a "couple of weeks" with a sprained right ankle, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.
Insight: Bradley also has a sore right hand that will be able to heal with the time off. Prior to scoring three points in seven minutes Tuesday, Bradley had averaged 18.3 points in his past 10 games and 16.3 points in his past 26. Boston will have to use a lot more of Chris Johnson with Bradley and Jerryd Bayless on the mend.
Description: Celtics guard Rajon Rondo was on the floor for almost 26 minutes in his third game back, but failed to produce against the champion Heat.
Insight: Rondo shot 0-8 from the floor and 1-of-4 from the free throw line. He played 19 and 21 minutes in his first two contests. He's not a viable fantasy option at this time, but its still early in his comeback.
Description: Boston guard Jerryd Bayless has been downgraded to out for the next 7-10 days due to a sprained right big toe, according to beat report A. Sherrod Blakely.
Insight: Boston acquired Bayless from Memphis in a three-team trade that also included Oklahoma City and he has averaged 7.1 ppg, 1.3 rpg, 3.0 apg in eight games, but the return of Rajon Rondo should end much of his usefulness even when he gets healthy.
Description: Boston guard Jerryd Bayless is doubtful for Tuesday's game against Miami due to a sprained right big toe.
Insight: Boston acquired Bayless from Memphis in a three-team trade that also included Oklahoma City and has averaged 7.1 ppg, 1.3 rpg, 3.0 apg in eight games, but the return of Rajon Rondo should end much of his usefulness.

Description: According to Matt Moore of CBS Sports, the Celtics are fully expected to trade Rajon Rondo before next month's deadline.
Insight: The tanking C's are trying to stockpile draft picks and Rondo is obviously the team's biggest trade chip. If a team offers up a first rounder for Rondo, GM Danny Ainge is likely to pull the trigger. Rondo returned from a torn ACL on Friday and scored eight points in 19 minutes of action.
Description: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo said he would play Sunday, but might sit out the second half of back-to-back games.
Insight: Rondo playing his first game of the season was on the floor for 19 minutes and had eight points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals in his 2013-14 season debut Friday against the Lakers.
Description: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo played 19 minutes and had eight points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals in his 2013-14 season debut Friday against the Lakers.
Insight: Rondo was playing for the first time since tearing his ACL on Jan. 25, 2013, and coach Brad Stevens he would be on a limit of 20 minutes. Few point guards in the league are as effective as Rondo when healthy. He averaged 13.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 11.1 apg in 38 games last season.
Description: Boston rookie Kelly Olynyk came out of nowhere with a career-high 25 points, seven assists, five rebounds, two steals and a block in 33 minutes Friday against the Lakers.
Insight: Olynyk had scored just 39 points total his last nine games. He saw extended playing time Friday as the Kris Humphries-Brandon Bass tandem only played 30 minutes combined, but there's no way to know what rotation coach Brad Stevens will go with next game.

Few point guards in the league are as effective as Rondo when healthy. He averaged 13.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 11.1 apg in 38 games last season. As excited as we are to have him back, fantasy owners might want to hold off on plugging him into the lineup Friday on a night when 24 teams are in action.
Description: Celtics GM Danny Ainge confirmed that point guard Rajon Rondo will play Friday against the Lakers.
Insight: Rondo (ACL) is expected to be on a minutes limit after working out with Boston's D-League affiliate on Wednesday. Few point guards in the league are as effective as Rondo when healthy. Rondo averaged 13.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 11.1 apg in 38 games last season.
Description: Boston power forward Kris Humphries had 12 points, eight rebounds and one block in 25 minutes Wednesday against the Raptors.
Insight: Brandon Bass came off the bench and also played 25 minutes, but he had just seven points and six rebounds. Humphries has averaged 10.7 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.0 blocks over his last nine games. Bass has produced 10.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg and 0.6 bpg in that same timeframe.
Description: Celtics C/PF Jared Sullinger pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds and added 25 points, four assists and two steals in 39 minutes Wednesday against the Raptors.
Insight: Sullinger has grabbed double-digit rebounds in four straight games. The return of Rajon Rondo Friday should lead to more easy looks for the big man and help him raise his .439 shooting percentage.
Description: The Celtics have officially activated point guard Rajon Rondo. SOURCE: Sean Grande, CBS Sports
Insight: Rondo (ACL) is expected to be on a minutes limit Friday against the Lakers after working out with Boston's D-League affiliate on Wednesday. Few point guards in the league are as effective as Rondo when healthy.
Description: With Rajon Rondo slated to return on Friday, the Celtics may be gearing up to trade Jordan Crawford.
Insight: According to journalist Peter Vecsey, the Clippers, Nets, Rockets, Suns and Warriors would all be interested in acquiring Crawford, who has averaged 13.7 ppg and 5.7 apg this season. Crawford might still average double-digit points with Rondo in the lineup but fantasy owners probably won't be able to rely on him for assists anymore.
Description: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo's physical test Wednesday could be his final hurdle before returning to the lineup, according to Chris Forsberg of espnboston.com.
Insight: Rondo hinted at a possible return Friday against the Lakers on his Twitter account Tuesday, tweeting "29,233,380 secs." That equates to 338 days, the amount of time from his surgery to repair a torn ACL to Jan. 17.
Description: Boston swingman Jeff Green was in and out of Monday's game after suffering a shoulder injury.
Insight: Green expects to play in the Celtics' next game on Wednesday. He's put up solid numbers all season and is averaging 15.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.3 apg in eight January games despite a bad-shooting 4-point effort Monday.
Description: Boston power forward Kris Humphries (ankle) will play Wednesday against the Clippers, according to Kyle Draper of csnne.com.
Insight: Humphries was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup after missing Monday's practice due to a sprained ankle. He has been getting more playing time at the expense of Brandon Bass averaging 23.5 minutes, 11.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 blocks over his last five games.
Description: Celtics C/PF Jared Sullinger is one Flagrant 1 foul away from a one-game suspension after picking up two in 23-second span during the third quarter Tuesday. Boston GM Danny Ainge will appeal the second of the two fouls. SOURCE: bostonherald.com
Insight: Sullinger has averaged just 8.1 ppg on 29.9 percent shooting his last seven games while dealing with a sore wrist.
Description: Boston power forward Kris Humphries (ankle) has been scratched from the lineup due to an ankle sprain, according to Mark D'Amico of celtics.com.
Insight: Humphries missed practice Monday due to a sprained ankle but was initially expected to play Tuesday. He has been getting more playing time at the expense of Brandon Bass averaging 23.5 minutes, 11.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 blocks over his last five games.
Description: According to Celtics.com's Mark D'Amico, Jerryd Bayless will be available for Boston Tuesday night at Denver.
Insight: Boston acquired Bayless from Memphis in a three-team trade that also included Oklahoma City. Bayless averaged 21 minutes and 8.1 points per game with the Grizzlies and will probably put up the same numbers with Boston as a backup combo guard behind Jordan Crawford and Avery Bradley.
Description: The Grizzlies dealt backup point guard Jerryd Bayless to Boston on Sunday. SOURCE: Marc Stein, ESPN
Insight: Memphis will receive Courtney Lee as part of the deal. Bayless is likely to back up Jordan Crawford at point guard until Rajon Rondo returns from his ACL injury. He's averaged 8.0 ppg in 30 games this season.
Description: Celtics C/PF Jared Sullinger is questionable for Thursday's game against Chicago due to a sore left hand and wrist.
Insight: Sullinger should be back out there Thursday against the Bulls. He's been a decent fantasy option averaging 13.5 ppg, 7.0 rpg and 1.8 apg. The points are more than double his season average from a year ago and should continue as long as he can stay healthy.
Description: Celtics coach Brad Stevens said that Jared Sullinger could have returned to action Tuesday against the Hawks. Sullinger sat out most of the second half with what was believed to be a wrist injury. SOURCE: Jay King, MassLive
Insight: Sullinger's wrist has been an issue for almost a month now but it hasn't affected his play. He struggled on Tuesday (just 1-of-6 shooting) but we're chocking it up to just an off shooting night. Sullinger should be back out there Thursday against the Bulls.
Description: Boston rookie Kelly Olynyk netted a career-high 21 points in Tuesday's loss to Atlanta.
Insight: The 24 minutes Olynyk logged Tuesday were his most since November 20th against San Antonio. Olynyk should get more opportuntities as the season continues especially if starters Brandon Bass and Jared Sullinger struggle like they did on Tuesday (combined 11 points on 3-of-12 shooting).
Description: Celtics center Jared Sullinger aggravated his wrist injury Tuesday against the Hawks.
Insight: He left the game in the third quarter and wasn't able to return. If the injury ends up affecting Sullinger long term, Kris Humphries and rookie Kelly Olynyk will both see a boost in playing time.
Description: Boston center Jared Sullinger has been playing through a left hand injury for the past month.
Insight: MassLive's Jay King says Sullinger has been dealing with a deep bone bruise and sprained ligaments in his hand since late November. Luckily for fantasy owners, it hasn't affected his scoring output. In ten December games, he's averaging 15.6 ppg. To put that in perspective, Sullinger is averaging 9.1 ppg for his career. He'll be worth a start Saturday against Cleveland.
Description: Rajon Rondo's return timetable could be pushed back to February according to a MassLive report.
Insight: Boston's All-Star point guard has been slow to recover from an ACL tear. At first glance, this seems to be a thinly-veiled attempt at tanking (keep in mind Rondo has been practicing for weeks). Unfortunately for the C's, half the conference is doing the exact same thing, which means a top-five pick is far from a guarantee.
Description: Celtics F/C Jared Sullinger put up 22 points and 11 boards Saturday afternoon but also suffered a minor ankle injury. According to espn.com's Chris Forsberg, Sullinger said he'll play Sunday.
Insight: Sullinger suffered the injury after colliding with Bradley Beal in the second quarter. He limped off the court during a timeout and was replaced after attempting to play through it. However, he scored 10 of his 22 points after halftime. "It's alright, it's a little swollen," he said. "Gave it a little bit of treatment before I step out of here and head to the plane."
Description: Boston swingman Jeff Green could be dealt in the next couple days if the rumors we're hearing about Omer Asik are true. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: The Rockets plan to have Asik off their roster by Thursday and Boston could be his most likely destination. Brian Windhorst and Marc Stein are hearing that Green could be sent to Cleveland as part of a three-team deal. Asik coming to Boston would mean fewer minutes for Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk at center.
Description: Sports Illustrated reports the Celtics and Kings have explored a trade that would send star point guard Rajon Rondo to Sacramento, though a number of other outlets have refuted this rumor.
Insight: The Celtics have a real dilemma on their hands. They're playing better than expected and may make the postseason regardless of whether Rondo returns to the lineup or not. Dealing Rondo would strengthen Boston's chances of landing a high lottery pick but the rest of the Eastern Conference is playing so poorly that it might not matter. The Celtics have until mid-February to make a decision on Rondo's future in Beantown. For what it's worth, the four-time All-Star is expected to return from ACL surgery sometime in January.
Description: Dr. James Andrews has given Boston point guard Rajon Rondo the go-ahead to participate in full contact practices. SOURCE: Jay King, MassLive
Insight: The four-time All-Star has been recovering from a torn ACL for the past 11 months. It sounds like he could be back around Christmas. Jordan Crawford's fantasy value will take a hit when Rondo returns.
Description: Celtics coach Brad Stevens said Kelly Olynyk (ankle) will miss Sunday's game.
Insight: Olynyk hasn't played since spraining his ankle on Nov. 22, but he has started doing some individual workouts. "He told me he's feeling a little better but I don't know exactly what that means," Stevens said on Saturday. "I know he won't be playing tomorrow."
Description: Boston guard Jordan Crawford had 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting, eight assists, four rebounds and two threes in 34 minutes Friday against the Nuggets.
Insight: We saw flashes of a player who could contribute in multiple categories when Crawford played the point briefly for the Wizards last season, and he has excelled in an extended run as Boston's starting point guard this year. He's averaging 16.3 points, 7.1 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 threes over his last seven contests.
Description: Celtics guard Rajon Rondo is still waiting to be cleared for full contact. SOURCE: Comcast Sportsnet New England
Insight: The hope is that he'll be cleared sometime in the next week. Rondo's recovery from a torn ACL is going well but there's still no timetable for his return. Jordan Crawford has been filling in at point guard.
Description: Celtics F/C Jared Sullinger played 33 minutes and had 21 points and 14 rebounds Saturday at Milwaukee.
Insight: It was his second 20-point, 10-rebound game in his last three games. He's averaging 31 minutes, 15.4 points. 9.9 rebounds, 0.6 blocks and 1.3 threes in his last seven games and should be added in most leagues.
Description: Celtics G/F Jeff Green had 18 points Saturday and is averaging 20.4 ppg over his last seven.
Insight: Green's scoring average dropped to 14.5 ppg after he went 2-of-13 from the field for six points from Nov. 16-19, but he has it back up to 16.7 after going off in the last seven games. He has attempted 15.1 field goals and 5.6 free throws per game in that span.
Description: Boston guard Jordan Crawford generated his third-career triple-double Friday in a blowout win over Cleveland.
Insight: Crawford (11 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) is getting extended minutes at point guard for the first time in his career and he seems to be loving every second of it. Of course, that will only last until Rajon Rondo is back on the court. Luckily for Crawford, Rondo (ACL) is still a couple weeks away from returning.
Description: According to ESPN Boston's Chris Forsberg, Celtics shooting guard Courtney Lee is out for Friday's game against Cleveland.
Insight: Lee hurt his knee in Wednesday's loss to Memphis. The 28-year-old has only been seeing about 17 minutes a game. He's done well in his limited minutes (51.0 field goal percentage and 48 percent on three-pointers) but that isn't enough to warrant a fantasy recommendation.
Description: Boston guard Courtney Lee is questionable for Friday's game against Cleveland with a sprained left knee.
Insight: Lee can score as indicated by his 7.6 ppg average in just 17 mpg, but he'd need to get more playing time to be of value to fantasy owners. Barring injury to Jordan Crawford, he's not going to get it.
Description: Celtics coach Brad Stevens says rookie Kelly Olynyk could be out a "couple" of weeks after spraining his ankle Friday against the Pacers. SOURCE: A. Sherrod Blakely, Comcast Sportsnet New England
Insight: He didn't make the trip to Atlanta with the rest of the team. Olynyk hasn't shot the ball particularly well this year (38.9 percent in 14 games), but the fact that he's getting almost 23 minutes a game as a rookie has to be encouraging. Clearly Stevens has faith in his young big man.
Description: Celtics power forward Jared Sullinger (illness) is questionable for Saturday's game, according to csnne.com.
Insight: Sullinger played through the illness Friday night but admitted after the game that he was exhausted. Kelly Olynyk suffered an ankle sprain and is also questionable for Saturday, so we could see a heavy dose of Vitor Faverani and Kris Humphries in the frontcourt against the Hawks.
Description: Celtics G/F Jeff Green has scored 19.5 ppg over his last two games.
Insight: Green looked to be getting the keys to Boston's offense after the team traded Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett this offseason, but he has attempted just 11.6 field goals per game and is averaging 15.2 ppg. He's just not someone who is going to be a high-volume, 20-ppg scorer in the NBA.
Description: Celtics center Kelly Olynyk sprained his right ankle during Friday's game against Indiana and will not return, according to A. Sherrod Blakely of csnne.com.
Insight: A Celtics official said holding out the rookie for the rest of Friday's game is precautionary, but he has been deemed questionable for Saturday's game. Kris Humphries started the second half at center. Coach Brad Stevens seems to be down on Vitor Faverani at the moment.
Description: Celtics guard Avery Bradley had a miserable night shooting the ball Tuesday against the Rockets (5-for-22, 11 points).
Insight: Twenty-two shot attempts? Seriously, when did Bradley become Allen Iverson? Bradley may be averaging 13.1 ppg this season but he's not a strong offensive player. You know you're in trouble if he's your team's best scoring option. It's gonna be a long year for the C's.
Description: Boston guard Avery Bradley scored 27 points on 12-of-23 shooting Saturday in a loss to Minnesota.
Insight: Bradley is still inconsistent -- he had 13 combined points the last two games -- but he's been a more effective scorer since moving to the two-guard earlier this month. He's averaging 14.4 ppg his last nine games.
Description: Boston power forward Jared Sullinger is questionable for Friday's game against Portland.
Insight: Sullinger has a bruised knee, but practiced Thursday. He's had his injury troubles in the past but we don't think this particular ailment will require a lengthy absence. When on the court he's averaging 11.3 ppg and 5.1 rpg.
Description: Boston point guard Rajon Rondo (torn ACL) isn't expected back before December, according to Celtics president Danny Ainge.
Insight: Jordan Crawford and Avery Bradley have formed a decent backcourt, but obviously the level of play would rise with Rondo in the game. On the other hand it might mean less ping pong balls in their attempt to get one of this year's crop of outstanding rookies.
Description: Celtics power forward Jared Sullinger has been diagnosed with a bone bruise in his right knee, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.
Insight: Sullinger sustained the injury taking a charge from Maurice Harkless Monday against the Magic. He's averaging 20 minutes, 11.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game this season and shouldn't have to miss much time, if any.
Description: Celtics guard Jordan Crawford had 16 points, 10 assists and five rebounds in 33 minutes Monday against Orlando. All are season highs for the 25-year-old.
Insight: Crawford moved into the starting lineup at point guard four games ago, pushing Avery Bradley to two-guard. The shift has worked out well for both players and the Celtics, who have won four straight after starting out 0-4.
Description: Boston guard Avery Bradley has improved his scoring since being moved off the ball.
Insight: He began the season as Boston's starting point guard but was moved over to the two several games ago. He scored 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting Monday and is averaging 18.3 points over the last three games.
Description: G/F Jeff Green stunned the Heat by drilling a three-pointer as time expired Saturday night in a 111-110 Celtics victory.
Insight: What a finish. The Heat had this one all but wrapped up with Dwyane Wade going to the line for two with 0.6 seconds left. Instead of putting the game out of reach, Wade missed both free throws. Green (team-high 24 pts) caught the following inbounds pass from Gerald Wallace and sank the game-winner just before the clock ran out. Boston has now won three straight after starting the year 0-4.
Description: Celtics forward Brandon Bass has scored 36 points and grabbed 11 rebounds with three blocks over the last two games.
Insight: Bass has played nearly 33 minutes per game this season despite the presence of Kelly Olynyk and Jared Sullinger off the bench. He's averaging 13.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 0.8 steals this season.
Description: Celtics center Vitor Faverani will start Friday's game against the Magic after playing just six minutes Wednesday. SOURCE: NBA.com
Insight: Faverani had his hands full with Enes Kanter in the first half Wednesday and was benched in favor of Kelly Olynyk in the second. However, the team will stick with the same starting lineup for now.
Description: Boston rookie big man Kelly Olynyk started the second half of Wednesday's game at center and ended up playing a season-high 29 minutes. He scored 14 points and had eight rebounds, three assists and a steal in the game.
Insight: Starter Vitor Faverani played just six minutes. Olynyk has played at least 25 minutes in three straight games after playing 15 mpg the first two. However, we should continue to see Olynyk, Faverani, Jared Sullinger and Brandon Bass share the frontcourt playing time, limiting the fantasy value of all four.
Description: Jordan Crawford will move into the Celtics' starting lineup Wednesday against the Jazz. Boston will shift Gerald Green to small forward and Gerald Wallace to the bench.
Insight: Crawford came off the bench in each of the first four games and averaged just 19 minutes per contest, compared to a team-high 35 minutes per game for Wallace. Crawford is still averaging 9.8 ppg despite the limited playing time.
Description: Boston power forward Jared Sullinger has served his one-game suspension and is probable for Friday's game against Milwaukee.
Insight: He's battling Brandon Bass for a starting power forward spot. It will likely take a few games to assess Sullinger's fantasy value based on the amount of playing time he gets. He missed the last three months of the 2012-13 campaign after undergoing back surgery.
Description: Celtics guard Avery Bradley passed his concussion test but it's still uncertain whether he'll play Friday against the Bucks. SOURCE: MassLive.com
Insight: It's anyone's guess who starts at point guard if Bradley can't play though Phil Pressey and Jordan Crawford could be possibilities. It looks like it's going to be a long season for the NBA's most storied franchise.
Description: Celtics forward Brandon Bass played 32 minutes and made 6-of-7 shots (5-5 FT) for 17 points with two boards, two assists and two steals Wednesday against Toronto.
Insight: We cannot accurately judge Boston's rotation until Jared Sullinger returns from his one-game suspension, but with Sullinger, Kelly Olynyk and Kris Humphries on the roster, Bass has a lot of competition for minutes.
Description: Celtics small forward Gerald Wallace played 40 minutes in the season opener but only scored three points with three rebounds, two assists, four steals and five turnovers.
Insight: Wallace only took one shot. The 31-year-old is coming off a terrible season with the Nets in which he averaged 30 minutes, 7.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals. Only add him if you're desperate for steals.
Description: Celtics center Vitor Faverani had 13 points, three rebounds and three blocks over 27 minutes Wednesday against the Raptors.
Insight: We still need to see how Boston's big-man rotation shakes out when Jared Sullinger makes his season debut after serving a one-game suspension Wednesday, but Faverani should be added in most leagues nevertheless.
Description: Celtics swingman Jeff Green hit 8-of-16 shots and scored a game-high 25 points with five rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block and two treys in an opening-night loss at Toronto Wednesday night.
Insight: With Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett gone, Green is now the No. 1 scoring option on this team. He has a very good chance at averaging 20 ppg.
Description: Boston's Avery Bradley will start at point guard in the season opener Wednesday against Toronto.
Insight: Bradley averaged 29 minutes, 9.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.4 blocks and 0.8 threes in 50 games last season. Jordan Crawford also will see time at point guard until Rajon Rondo returns.
Description: Vitor Faverani (back) will start Boston's season-opening game against the Raptors Wednesday.
Insight: Kelly Olynyk is still expected to play a large role off the bench, but Faverani is worth adding in deeper leagues. He had a strong finish to the preseason, averaging 12 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in just under 22 minutes per game over his last three exhibition games.
Description: Celtics forward Jeff Green (forearm) practiced Monday.
Insight: Green banged his funny bone during a preseason game last week, but it's not a serious issue. He's expected to start at shooting guard for the Celtics and will be the top offensive option on the team, which makes him a strong fourth- or fifth-round fantasy selection.
Description: Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo says his surgically repaired knee is at 87 percent. SOURCE: Boston Globe
Insight: That's awfully specific. Rondo hasn't played in the preseason yet and he probably won't be available for the first couple months of the regular season either. Defensive specialist Avery Bradley will handle the point guard duties while he's out.
Description: Celtics coach Brad Stevens indicated that he will use the Jeff Green-Gerald Wallace combo on the wings early in the season, according to Chris Forsberg of ESPNBoston.com.
Insight: Stevens started Avery Bradley, Green, Wallace, Kelly Olynyk and Vitor Faverani Wednesday in the team's final preseason game. "It gives us a chance to be a little unique," said Celtics coach Brad Stevens. "And, at the same time, it doesn’t forfeit the ability to move and defend multiple positions. We’re going to continue to play around with that, and I think (the Green/Wallace combo is) something that you very well could see early on in the regular season." If Green starts at the two and Wallace at the three, it would push Jordan Crawford to the bench. Wallace had a miserable and injury-plagued season with the Nets in 2012-13 and averaged 30 minutes, 7.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.7 blocks.
Description: Boston power forward Jared Sullinger doesn't think he's close to returning to game action. SOURCE: Gary Washburn, Boston Globe
Insight: Sullinger missed the last three months of the 2012-13 campaign after undergoing back surgery and apparently he still hasn't fully recovered. Until we hear something positive on his recovery, Sullinger won't be worth drafting in any fantasy leagues.
Description: According to ESPN Boston, Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said he'd be "shocked" if Rajon Rondo (knee) was ready for the start of the regular season in late October and hinted that an early December return is more likely.
Insight: Rondo had surgery in mid-February to repair a partially torn ACL, and Ainge said there's no exact timetable for his return. "I don’t think we would ever succumb to the pressure of bringing back a player from an ACL too soon," said Ainge. "We’ve got to do what’s right for him. He’s young -- maybe if he was 37 and it was his last year, but he’s still so young. And he’s our best player. We can’t afford to make any mistakes and judgment on when to bring him back."
Description: Celtics forward Jared Sullinger was arrested following a domestic dispute over Labor Day weekend. SOURCE: A. Sherrod Blakely, Comcast Sportsnet New England
Insight: He was released on $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on September 27th. Sullinger missed most of his rookie season after undergoing back surgery. In Boston's depleted frontcourt, he should see ample playing time in 2013-14.
Description: Celtics forward Jared Sullinger believes that his teammate Rajon Rondo will be ready to play again by December. SOURCE: WSYX Columbus
Insight: Rondo, as most of you already know, is recovering from a very serious knee injury. Without him, the Celtics were unable to advance past the first round of the playoffs. This year, they'll be lucky to even get into the playoffs.
Description: Boston forward Kris Humphires acknowledged the possbility that he could be traded. SOURCE: Chris Forsberg, ESPN Boston
Insight: Humphries was shipped to Boston last week in a deal that sent Celtics legends Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn. The former Net said, "If something comes up that's better for the team, then I'm sure the team will do it." The most likely scenario is that the Celtics will wait until the trade deadline in February before making a move. Humphries is set to become a free agent after next season.
Description: Apparently Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony would like to be teammates with Rajon Rondo.
Insight: ESPN's Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith debated this subject Monday on First Take. The Knicks are already committed to Raymond Felton and Celtics GM Danny Ainge has made it clear to teams looking for a point guard that Rondo is not available. It's not the craziest rumor we've ever heard but there isn't much of a story here. Rondo is a Celtic and we don't see that changing anytime soon.
Description: The Celtics waived Kris Joseph on Monday.
Insight: Joseph was traded to Boston as part of the Kevin Garnett deal. The former Syracuse forward averaged less than a point per game in 10 appearances for the Celtics and Nets last season. He may have to play overseas.
Description: Boston rookie Kelly Olynyk is averaging 18.0 ppg in the Orlando Summer League.
Insight: He's also shooting 57.8 percent from the field. Of course, the level of competition in Orlando isn't anywhere near what Olynyk will be facing once the regular season starts. It's good to see Olynyk playing well but at the same time, take it all with a grain of salt.
Description: Celtics forward Jeff Green will undoubtedly have a huge role next season after the trade of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets.
Insight: Green started the season as a role player and averaged 23 minutes and 9.4 points over his first 42 games, but he started 16 of the final 19 games and averaged 18.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 34 minutes during that span.
Description: Could Rajon Rondo be the next domino to fall for the Celtics? If GM Danny Ainge makes Rondo available, the Mavericks would love to have him, according to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Insight: Acquiring Rondo would be Mark Cuban's backup plan if the Mavs are unable to sign free agent center Dwight Howard, which of course is the team's top priority this offseason. Dallas did draft a point guard on Thursday (they took Shane Larkin from Miami with the 18th pick) but Rondo would still be a welcome addition to a team that hasn't produced an All-Star at point guard since Jason Kidd in 2010.
Description: Trade talks are heating up between the Nets and Celtics. ESPN's Chris Broussard suspects a deal could be reached within the next 24 hours.
Insight: Danny Ainge's demolition of the Celtics is almost complete. Boston would receive Keith Bogans, Reggie Evans, Kris Humphries, Tomike Shenglia, Gerald Wallace and three first round picks for Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry. The C's might also look to trade Rajon Rondo if they can get the right offer.
Description: According to the New York Daily News, the Nets are pursuing a trade for Celtics center Kevin Garnett.
Insight: Garnett has a no-trade clause in his contract so a deal can't be completed without his approval. The Celtics are in total disarray right now but Garnett might still feel a bit of loyalty to the team that gave him his first and so far only NBA championship. He might want to stick it out for one more season in Boston but that won't stop the trade rumors from continuing.
Description: A few weeks ago it looked like a foregone conclusion that the Celtics would buy out the final year of Paul Pierce's contract. But now that Doc Rivers is gone, things have changed. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: Any chance the Celtics had of keeping their team together went out the window when Rivers accepted a three-year deal to coach the Clippers. Now Boston is in complete rebuild mode and the team can't afford to let Pierce walk out the door and not get anything back in return. The Cavaliers have already offered a pair of second round picks for Pierce, though it looks like GM Danny Ainge will hold out for a better offer if he can find one.
Description: According to Sports Illustrated, Doc Rivers' turbulent relationship with point guard Rajon Rondo might be a factor in whether or not he returns to the Celtics next season.
Insight: Apparently Rondo cursed at Rivers during a team meeting last year and the two almost came to blows. It's not the first time we've heard about Rondo rubbing someone the wrong way. Ray Allen hinted that Rondo's behavior was one of the reasons he left to join the Heat last season.
Description: So much for the Doc to L.A. trade being dead. The Clippers and Celtics are talking again and ESPN's Ramona Shelburne believes a deal could be reached by the end of the night.
Insight: The Clippers walked away from the trade on Tuesday but apparently point guard Chris Paul begged them to reconsider. The Celtics would acquire DeAndre Jordan and draft picks for center Kevin Garnett and head coach Doc Rivers. Vinny Del Negro and Lawrence Frank are on the short list of coaches who could replace Rivers in Boston.
Description: According to the L.A. Times, trade talks between the Clippers and Celtics are dead. The proposed swap would have sent Kevin Garnett and head coach Doc Rivers to Los Angeles for DeAndre Jordan and a pair of first round picks.
Insight: The cost of signing Rivers and having to pay $3 million for the trade kicker in Jordan's contract was what caused the Clippers to back out of the deal. Now the Celtics face an uncertain future with Rivers likely to return to broadcasting and Garnett again contemplating retirement.
Description: The Celtics are trying to include either Jason Terry or Courtney Lee in a trade that would also send head coach Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett to the Clippers. SOURCE: Comcast Sports New England
Insight: The Celtics would receive DeAndre Jordan and draft picks as compensation. So far, the Clippers seem hesitant to absorb Terry's contract. Terry posted the second-lowest scoring average of his career last season (10.1 ppg) but admitted that knee issues forced him to play more cautiously.
Description: ESPN is reporting that the Celtics and Clippers are discussing a blockbuster trade that would send coach Doc Rivers and center Kevin Garnett to Los Angeles for DeAndre Jordan and a first round draft pick.
Insight: Garnett does have a no-trade clause in his contract but it seems like he'd be willing to waive it if Rivers were to join him in L.A. The deal is on hold because the Celtics are asking for Eric Bledsoe and the Clippers are hesitant to give him up. If Chris Paul leaves in free agency, Bledsoe would probably be the team's best option at point guard.
Description: Boston sixth man Jason Terry had minor knee surgery earlier this offseason. SOURCE: Boston Herald
Insight: Terry had his left knee repaired and is expected to be back at full health for training camp this fall. 2012-13 was kind of a down season for Terry. The veteran averaged just 10.1 ppg, his lowest scoring average since 1999-00.
Description: According to ESPN's Jackie MacMullan, Celtics center Kevin Garnett is expected to return for one more season.
Insight: Garnett hinted at retirement earlier in the year but he's still under contract for two more seasons. There's a good chance the Celtics will buy out Paul Pierce's contract this summer, which would leave Garnett as the only remaining member of the Big Three.
Description: It's doubtful that Celtics center Kevin Garnett will need offseason surgery on his injured foot/ankle. SOURCE: Steve Bulpett, Boston Herald
Insight: KG was hampered by foot issues over the final month of the 2012-13 campaign but it didn't seem to affect his performance in the playoffs as he averaged a team-leading 13.7 rpg in six contests. There's still an outside chance that Garnett could retire this summer. He'll probably wait to see what happens to Paul Pierce before making his decision.
Description: Celtics shooting guard Paul Pierce turned in his worst game of the series Friday night against the Knicks.
Insight: Pierce (14 points) couldn't buy a shot in Game 6 (4-for-18 including 1-for-9 on three-pointers). Overall, he shot just 36.6 percent for the series. The Celtics captain had his elbow looked at on the bench so clearly he wasn't at 100 percent. Now Boston must decide whether to keep Pierce for $15 million next season or buy him out.
Description: Celtics coach Doc Rivers shortened his rotation to just seven players Wednesday night in Game 5.
Insight: After averaging 16.3 minutes per game in Games 1-3, Crawford has played a combined seven minutes over Boston's last two games. Terrence Williams and Jason Terry were the only bench players to see any action in Game 5. Crawford's unnecessary post-game altercation with Carmelo Anthony and Raymond Felton on Wednesday probably didn't help his case for getting more playing time.
Description: Celtics guard Jason Terry will make a rare start Friday night in Game 3. SOURCE: Chris Forsberg, ESPN Boston
Insight: Doc Rivers will go with a smaller lineup featuring Terry and Avery Bradley at guard, Paul Pierce and Jeff Green at the two forward spots and Kevin Garnett at center. Brandon Bass and Jordan Crawford will come off the bench.
Description: Boston coach Doc Rivers said that Jordan Crawford has moved ahead of Courtney Lee in the rotation. SOURCE: Gary Dzen, Boston.com
Insight: Crawford played 25 minutes and scored 10 points on 11 field-goal attempts in Game 2 against the Knicks, and Lee logged just four minutes. "I'm not playing him right now," coach Doc Rivers said of Lee. "Jordan has moved ahead of him on the depth chart."
Description: Celtics SG/SF Paul Pierce is probable for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Saturday against New York while dealing with a sore left ankle.
Insight: Pierce has been in and out of the lineup recently, but that was just in preparation for the playoffs. he should be good to go. He has been a solid all-around contributor putting up 18.6 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 4.8 apg, 1.1 spg and 1.9 threes per contest.
Description: Even though he hasn't played in almost three months, Celtics guard Rajon Rondo still ended the season with the highest assist average in the NBA (11.1 apg).
Insight: Rondo's average has hovered in that 11 to 12 range for the last three seasons and we imagine it would be in that same neighborhood in 2013-14 when his knee is healthy again. Chris Paul finished second with an average of 9.7 apg while New Orleans' Greivis Vasquez came in third in the assist race with an even nine per contest.
Description: Celtics big man Kevin Garnett won't be in action Wednesday against Toronto. SOURCE: A. Sherrod Blakely, Comcast Sports New England
Insight: He'll finish the 2012-13 regular season with 14.8 ppg on 49.6 percent shooting. Garnett and the C's will take on the Knicks in the first round of the playoffs. The series starts this weekend in New York.
Description: Boston shooting guard Jason Terry is getting the night off Wednesday against the Raptors.
Insight: Doc Rivers would prefer to have the veteran fresh for the postseason. Terry (10.1 ppg on 43.4 percent shooting) really hasn't had a very good season but he's still a scoring threat, especially when he gets hot from long-range (37.2 percent on three-pointers in 2012-13).
Description: C's guard Courtney Lee went off for 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting Saturday against his former team, the Orlando Magic.
Insight: He did it in 29 minutes of court time. Lee has been automatic from three-point range recently. He went 3-for-3 from that distance Saturday and overall he's been a 44.3 percent long range shooter since the All-Star break. Doc Rivers' decision to move Paul Pierce to shooting guard has cost Lee some minutes over the past couple weeks. The good news is that Pierce probably won't see his usual allotment of minutes over the next two games, which makes Lee an appealing fantasy option in the short term.
Description: Celtics coach Doc Rivers wasn't happy with Jason Terry's pre-game comments about the Magic. As a result, he's been benched for Saturday's contest in Orlando. SOURCE: A. Sherrod Blakely, Comcast Sports New England
Insight: Terry called the Magic "terrible," a fairly ironic remark considering how poorly his own team has played recently (2-5 in the last seven games). It's possible Rivers could bench the opinionated shooting guard for the rest of the regular season. This incident certainly won't help the struggling C's find momentum heading into the playoffs.
Description: Paul Pierce is a no-go for Friday's game against the Heat. The shooting guard/small forward is dealing with a sore ankle.
Insight: By sitting Garnett and Pierce on Friday the Celtics seem to have accepted the fact that they'll be the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. They'll likely face the Knicks in the first round of the playoffs. Boston has lost three in a row against New York but they swept the Knicks when they faced them two years ago in the postseason.
Description: Celtics center Kevin Garnett won't participate in Friday night's game against the Heat.
Insight: He's listed on the injury report as having a sore ankle but we all know Doc Rivers is really just resting him for the playoffs. Fans who paid big bucks to see this game are probably going to be thoroughly disappointed when they get to their seats. Paul Pierce will also be out of the lineup and Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh have been sitting out as well.
Description: Boston small forward Paul Pierce (ankle) is expected to play Wednesday against the Nets, according to ESPN Boston.
Insight: Pierce said prior to Tuesday's practice that his sore right ankle is continuing to improve. "It's getting better," Pierce said. "I'm getting treatment, doing the necessary things I need to do to be better. It's doing a lot better."
Description: Celtics forward Brandon Bass had one of his better games of the season Sunday night in a win over Washington.
Insight: Bass (20 points) has averaged 17 ppg and 6.7 rpg over his last three contests. Of greater significance is the fact that despite Kevin Garnett's return from an ankle injury, Bass remained in the starting lineup and played 36 minutes.
Description: Boston center Kevin Garnett will start Sunday against the Wizards. He's been out the last two weeks because of ankle inflammation.
Insight: He practiced in full on Saturday so we figured he was close to returning. Head coach Doc Rivers hinted that he probably won't see his usual workload so fantasy owners should only expect about 20 to 25 minutes of KG on Sunday.
Description: Avery Bradley's injury isn't serious. The Celtics guard suffered a bruised left collar bone and could have returned to action Friday night against Cleveland.
Insight: There were only three and a half minutes left and the Celtics were losing by a decent amount so there really wasn't much point in putting Bradley back in the game. As long as Bradley doesn't suffer a setback he should be fine for Sunday's game against Washington.
Description: Boston guard Avery Bradley got hurt in the fourth quarter and did not return Friday against Cleveland.
Insight: This injury couldn't have come at a worse time for the reeling Celtics. It's unclear exactly what the injury is but Bradley seemed to be in a lot of pain. Remember, Bradley has had multiple surgeries on his shoulder. It's possible he could have aggravated a past injury.
Description: Boston small forward Paul Pierce re-injured his right ankle Wednesday in a win against the Pistons, but has been upgraded to probable for Friday's game against Cleveland.
Insight: Pierce acknowledged that the injury has gotten to the point where he's considering resting it until the postseason. The Celtics have been destroyed by injuries all year. They've put together miracle playoff runs in the past, but with Rajon Rondo out and Pierce and Kevin Garnett both at less than 100 percent, that's not likely to happen again in 2013.
Description: Celtics coach Doc Rivers has been impressed with Jeff Green's play recently and says he has earned a spot in the starting lineup, regardless of who is healthy. SOURCE: Scott Souza, MetroWest Daily News
Insight: With Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett banged up, Doc has little choice but to start Green but it seems like what Rivers is trying to say is that Green has surpassed Brandon Bass as the team's No. 1 power forward. The full fantasy implications of this won't come into effect until Boston gets healthy and that's unlikely to happen before the end of the regular season.
Description: Scott Souza from the MetroWest Daily News hears that Kevin Garnett's return has been pushed back to Sunday against Washington. Garnett, who has missed Boston's last seven games with a bum ankle, had been slated to return Friday against Cleveland.
Insight: And even that doesn't appear to be a sure thing. Fantasy owners who jumped on the Jeff Green bandwagon too late might need to find another power forward on the waiver wire to get them through the week.

Insight: Pierce acknowledged that the injury has gotten to the point where he's considering resting it until the postseason. The Celtics have been destroyed by injuries all year. They've put together miracle playoff runs in the past but with Rajon Rondo out and Pierce and Kevin Garnett both at less than 100 percent, that's not likely to happen again in 2013.
Description: The Boston Globe is reporting that Celtics center Kevin Garnett is probable to return Friday night against Cleveland.
Insight: He's missed Boston's last seven games with an ankle issue. The C's went just 3-4 without him so Boston fans must be pretty relieved to hear that KG is healthy again. Of course, fantasy owners who have been riding Jeff Green (23.8 ppg on 56.8 percent shooting in his last five games) will have to lower their expectations a bit.
Description: Boston forward Jeff Green dumped in 34 points on 13-of-19 shooting with six boards, one steal, four blocks and three triples Wednesday against the Pistons.
Insight: Green has scored at least 21 points in four of the last five games and is averaging 21.6 ppg over his last 10. However, we have to wonder how Kevin Garnett's return to action will affect Green's production.
Description: Boston forward Paul Pierce will be active Wednesday against the Pistons. He missed Monday's game in Minnesota for personal reasons. SOURCE: A. Sherrod Blakely
Insight: Unfortunately for Celtics fans, Kevin Garnett will miss at least one more game before he's ready to return from an ankle injury. Pierce has struggled versus Detroit this season (11.5 ppg on 43.5 percent shooting in two games).
Description: Celtics small forward Paul Pierce didn't play Monday against Minnesota and missed the Wednesday morning shootaround, so the optimism that he was sure to return for tonight's game is gone.
Insight: Pierce had an ankle injury, but the official word was that he was out on Monday for "personal reasons" and now we don't know whether he's going to return. He's been the focal point of the Celtics' offense averaging 18.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 4.8 apg this season and 21.0 ppg and 11.6 rpg over his last three starts.
Description: Celtics' small forward Paul Pierce didn't play Monday against Minnesota, but is expected to return for Wednesday's game with Detroit.
Insight: Pierce had an ankle injury, but the official word was that he was out for "personal reasons." He's been the focal point of the Celtics' offense averaging 18.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 4.8 apg this season and 21.0 ppg and 11.6 rpg over his last three starts.
Description: Celtics small forward Paul Pierce won't be in the lineup Monday against Minnesota.
Insight: Pierce had been doubtful heading into tonight's game because of an ankle injury but according to the Celtics' Twitter account, Pierce is out for "personal reasons." The shorthanded C's will use a starting lineup of Courtney Lee, Avery Bradley, Jeff Green, Brandon Bass and Chris Wilcox tonight versus the T-Wolves.
Description: Boston G/F Paul Pierce is doubtful for Monday's game against Minnesota with a sprained right ankle.
Insight: Pierce said he was just a little sore, but it looks like coach Doc Rivers is more concerned with getting ready for the playoffs and will sit him. Pierce has been huge - averaging 21.0 ppg, 11.6 rpg, 7.6 apg over his last three contests. Jeff Green would take over the offense if Pierce sits and would be a must-start option with Kevin Garnett also sidelined.
Description: Boston forward Jeff Green had his second straight 27-point game Sunday against the Knicks. He's averaging 25 ppg over his last three.
Insight: Green has been a reliable fantasy option since late January -- 16.4 ppg average in his last 31 games -- but he has really stepped it up to a star level over his last eight games, averaging 21.5 ppg. Kevin Garnett is still about a week away from returning to action so Green should be owned in all leagues.
Description: Boston center Kevin Garnett is "feeling a lot better" but he won't be in the lineup Sunday versus New York. Garnett has missed the Celtics' last four games with an ankle injury. SOURCE: Gary Washburn, Boston Globe
Insight: Garnett's noticeable improvement over the last week suggests that he could return faster than his original two-week timetable. We'd label him as questionable for Monday night's game in Minnesota.
Description: Boston guard Jason Terry had a rare 20-point game Friday against the Hawks, scoring 24 with five triples in 31 minutes.
Insight: Terry has scored 20 points exactly four times this season, his first in Boston. Courtney Lee (ankle) played just six minutes in his return to action Friday, Jordan Crawford played 21 and had five points and Avery Bradley played 26 and had eight points. Use Boston's guards at your own risk.
Description: Boston forward Jeff Green had 27 points, four assists, four rebounds, two steals, one block and three treys in 38 minutes Friday against the Hawks.
Insight: With Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo out of action, Green is carrying the Celtics on his back right now. The forward has been a reliable fantasy option since late January -- 16.0 ppg average in his last 30 games -- but he has really stepped it up to a star level over his last seven games, averaging 20.7 ppg.
Description: Boston shooting guard Courtney Lee (ankle) will return to action Friday against Atlanta but he'll do it off the bench, according to Boston broadcaster Sean Grande.
Insight: Lee is averaging 7.8 ppg this season and has little value, but not having him on the court is better for the fantasy value of Jordan Crawford. Crawford averaged 15.7 points, 4.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds over his last three games but he shouldn't be used when Lee is active.
Description: Boston shooting guard Courtney Lee (ankle) will be a game-time decision Friday against the Hawks.
Insight: Lee is averaging 7.8 ppg this season and has little value, but not having him on the court is better for the fantasy value of Jason Terry and Jordan Crawford. Crawford is averaging 15.7 points, 4.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds over his last three games.
Description: Boston guard Avery Bradley cut his tongue Wednesday in a win against Cleveland. SOURCE: Scott Souza, MetroWest Daily News
Insight: It sounds painful but Bradley doesn't believe the injury will prevent him from playing Friday night against the Hawks. Since Rajon Rondo went down with a season-ending knee injury, Bradley has averaged 9.6 ppg in 28 games.
Description: Paul Pierce nearly went for a triple-double Wednesday in a win over Cleveland (19 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists).
Insight: Making a rare start at shooting guard, Pierce was dominant in the game's last few minutes, producing six of his 19 points during that span. Look for the veteran to be a force in all of the major categories while Courtney Lee and Kevin Garnett are out with injuries.
Description: Boston power forward Brandon Bass netted a season-high 22 points Wednesday against Cleveland.
Insight: Bass led all players in scoring. He was 8-of-14 from the field and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. He's got nice touch for a big man and could have sleeper potential the next two weeks in Kevin Garnett's absence.
Description: Boston forward Jeff Green made his second buzzer-beater of the season Wednesday in a 93-92 victory over Cleveland.
Insight: Green produced 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists while logging a team-high 41 minutes of court time. Green's layup at the buzzer snapped a five-game losing streak for the Celtics. Friday the C's are back home to face Atlanta.
Description: Celtics guard Jordan Crawford drew the start Tuesday with Courtney Lee out with an ankle injury and scored 14 points with four rebounds, six assists, one steal, two threes and six turnovers against the Knicks.
Insight: Crawford had 21 points off the bench Saturday with Lee on the sidelines. However, Lee could get back in the lineup as early as Wednesday, so don't rush to pick up Crawford.
Description: Celtics center Kevin Garnett has been diagnosed with left ankle inflammation. SOURCE: Gary Washburn, Boston Globe
Insight: Boston GM Danny Ainge believes he'll be out of action for the next two weeks. Jeff Green is expected to take Garnett's place in the starting lineup. Green has averaged 22 ppg in five starts this season.
Description: Boston center Kevin Garnett (ankle) is headed for an MRI back in Boston and is questionable for Tuesday's game against New York.
Insight: Garnett missed two games last week with a different injury. Jeff Green, who is averaging 16.1 ppg since the All-Star break, would move into the starting lineup and should be started if Garnett is sidelined.
Description: Boston center Kevin Garnett (ankle) is headed for an MRI back in Boston. He'll miss Saturday's game, according to Celtics broadcaster Sean Grande.
Insight: Garnett missed two games last week with a strained abductor muscle. Jeff Green, who is averaging 16.1 ppg since the All-Star break, will move back into the starting lineup. Green should be owned in all leagues even when Garnett returns.
Description: Boston shooting guard Courtney Lee left Friday's game against Dallas with a sprained left ankle and is questionable for Saturday at Memphis.
Insight: Despite the addition of Jordan Crawford, Lee's playing time as remained constant, however he's only scored in double-digits three times in the last 11 games. If he's not scoring his fantasy value is low.
Description: Celtics forward Paul Pierce tallied 28 points Wednesday in a loss to New Orleans.
Insight: Pierce has a reputation for making big shots in crunch time but Wednesday he couldn't deliver. His miss with 15 seconds left allowed the Hornets to get off one last shot which Anthony Davis tipped in with 0.3 seconds left. Overall Pierce was 9-of-17 from the field including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. He was a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Description: Boston center Kevin Garnett poured in 20 points Wednesday in his first game back from a thigh injury.
Insight: Garnett was an efficient 9-of-16 from the floor with six rebounds in 29 minutes. He's only committed one turnover over his last three games. The Celtics will look to snap their two-game losing streak Friday night against the Mavericks.
Description: As expected, Celtics center Kevin Garnett will be back in action Wednesday versus New Orleans. Garnett sat out Monday because of the flu.
Insight: Red-hot Jeff Green won't see quite as many minutes now that Garnett is back but both players are worth starting against the struggling Hornets (losers of four straight and seven of the last eight).
Description: Boston center Kevin Garnett (strained thigh, flu) has been upgraded to probable for Wednesday's game in New Orleans. Garnett was a true game-time decision before sitting out the Monday night game with the Heat and now appears ready to play his regular workload.
Insight: Garnett's return should force fantasy owners to lower their expectations toward Jeff Green who went crazy against the Heat scoring a career-high 43 points with seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, four blocks and five 3-pointers.
Description: Boston center Kevin Garnett (strained thigh, flu) missed Monday's game against the Heat and is questionable for Wednesday's game. Garnett was a true game-time decision so it seems very possible he'll return tomorrow.
Insight: Jeff Green got the start at PF with Brandon Bass moving to center and Green went crazy against the Heat scoring a career-high 43 points with seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, four blocks and five 3-pointers.
Description: Boston forward Jeff Green blew up for a career-high 43 points Monday in a heartbreaking loss to the Heat.
Insight: Green got the start in Kevin Garnett's place and he didn't disappoint. In a team-high 40 minutes, Green shot 14-of-21 from the field including 9-of-12 in the first half. Green was especially dangerous from deep, converting on five of his seven long distance attempts. As long as Garnett is out, Green should continue to put up huge numbers.
Description: Boston center Kevin Garnett won't be available for Monday's game against the Heat. He's out with a strained thigh.
Insight: Comcast's A. Sherrod Blakely also mentioned that Garnett has the flu. This means Jeff Green is going to have to step up big time for the Celtics to have any chance of extinguishing Miami's win streak.
Description: Celtics PF/C Kevin Garnett (adductor injury) did not participate in the morning shootaround which is usually a bad sign. He'll be a game-time decision.
Insight: Generally the Celtics err on the side of caution when it comes to injuries, but they could make an exception because of the magnitude of Monday night's game - against the streaking Miami Heat. If Garnett is sidelined, expect Jeff Green to start at power forward with Brandon Bass moving to center.
Description: Celtics coach Doc Rivers downplayed the severity of Kevin Garnett's adductor injury but he couldn't guarantee that Garnett would play Monday against the Heat. SOURCE: Scott Souza, MetroWest Daily News
Insight: Rivers said the injury was a "one" on a scale of one to ten. Still, Doc put Garnett's odds of playing Monday as only "50/50." Generally the Celtics err on the side of caution when it comes to injuries but they could make an exception because of the magnitude of Monday night's game. The Celtics obviously have an axe to grind with Miami after losing to them in the Eastern Conference Finals and would love to have their star center available if at all possible.
Description: Boston center Kevin Garnett will sit out Saturday's game against the Bobcats because of a srained left adductor.
Insight: AKA he's out with a thigh injury. This will be the second game Garnett (14.8 ppg, 7.8 rpg) has missed this season. His first absence came last month when head coach Doc Rivers chose to rest the veteran against an inferior Phoenix team. This time it looks like KG is dealing with a real injury and might miss a few games. After Saturday's contest against Charlotte, the Celtics have a date with the rival Miami Heat Monday night at TD Garden.
Description: Boston small forward Paul Pierce reached a pair of milestones Wednesday in a 112-88 win over the Raptors.
Insight: Pierce (15 points) climbed past Charles Barkley for 20th on the all-time scoring list (23,763 career points) while simultaneously passing Allen Iverson for 10th in career free throws made (6,377). It should be a while before Pierce passes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for eighth in free throws (he's tied with Dolph Schayes at 6,712) but he should pass Robert Parish for second in Celtics history in games played sometime in the near future (trails Parish by 18 games).
Description: Celtics forward Jeff Green registered a team-high 20 points Wednesday in a blowout win against the Raptors.
Insight: Green nailed seven of his 14 shots, a noticeable improvement from Tuesday when he shot just 4-of-11 in a 26-point loss to Charlotte. Green, now fully recovered from heart surgery, is finally living up to fantasy owners' expectations. Don't be surprised if Green steals a few Sixth Man of the Year votes away from leading candidates Jamal Crawford and J.R. Smith.
