CFL Draft expands to seven rounds

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Canadian Football League announced Wednesday that it has expanded its draft from six to seven rounds.

"The talent of football in Canada is the strongest it's ever been," said Kevin McDonald, CFL vice president of football operations. "And with this increase in the depth of Canadian talent, we wanted to ensure our teams had an increased opportunity to draft, train and coach Canadian players."

The draft, which will take place next Monday at noon ET, will have a total of 60 selections. Ottawa, which will return to the league in 2014, will have four draft picks at the end of each of the first four rounds. Ottawa, though, can select only NCAA red shirt juniors.

Hamilton will have the first overall pick in the draft, followed by Winnipeg and Montreal.
