Report: Bucs tab Lovie Smith as new head coach

( - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly hired Lovie Smith as the team's new head coach.

According to multiple media outlets, including, the Buccaneers have brought in the former Chicago bench boss after firing head coach Greg Schiano and general manager Mark Dominik Monday following a disappointing 4-12 season.

Smith served as Chicago's head coach from 2004-2012, guiding the team to an 81-63 record and a trip to the Super Bowl, which the Bears lost to Indianapolis in 2006.

The 55-year-old Smith led the Bears to a 10-6 mark in his final season at the helm, but the team missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season and fifth time in six years, prompting Smith's firing.

It's a homecoming of sorts for Smith, who started his NFL coaching career as a linebackers coach for the Buccaneers from 1996-2000 before spending three seasons in St. Louis as a defensive coordinator.

Schiano, who was hired by Dominik, went just 11-21 during his brief two-year tenure in Tampa Bay.
