Cubs sign Valbuena to 1-year deal Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs signed infielder Luis Valbuena to a one-year, $930,000 contract on Thursday, avoiding arbitration. Claimed off waivers from Toronto by the Cubs last season, Valbuena batted .219 with four home runs and 28 RBI in 90 games.
