Marc Gasol is a viable fantasy option for the foreseeable future.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
Everyone knows about Pau Gasol. He led a Spanish National team to the 2006 FIBA World Championship. Left the Memphis Grizzlies for the Los Angeles Lakers where he teamed with Kobe Bryant to take them to the NBA finals before losing to Boston.
But it is Pau's younger brother Marc Gasol that we are focusing on today. That's because 24-year-old Marc has begun to play at the level where he has fantasy value to your team.
Since we flipped over the calendar to March, it also seems like Marc flipped the "on" switch and began to really play basketball. For the season he is averaging just 11.4 ppg and 7.5 rpg, but over the last four games those numbers have taken an astonishing leap upward. Marc is averaging 21.2 ppg, 9.8 rpg and 4.0 apg in the month of March. He posted double-doubles in three of the four games including a 10-assist effort against the Clippers in which he fell two rebounds short of a triple-double.
The Grizzlies are still a very young team, so it is allowing Gasol to play while he learns the game. Although the team has a tough stretch coming up with a three-game road trip to Minnesota, Boston and Detroit, things are looking up for the "other" Gasol and he is a viable fantasy option for the foreseeable future.
