Pierce MVP-worthy only in the real world

In 69 games to date, Pierce is averaging 20.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg and 3.8 apg.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - In the "real world" of NBA basketball, Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce is worthy of consideration for the MVP Award along with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul.

He carried the Celtics to the 2007-08 NBA Championship and this year despite injuries to Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo and a number of the team's role players has them playing at a high level again. They have the second-best record in the Eastern Conference (51-18) behind Cleveland (54-13) and the third-best record overall.

Yet when it comes to the NBA Fantasy MVP Award, Pierce is not anywhere to be found. That's the "problem" with a player who is "team-goal" oriented instead of "me-driven."

In 69 games to date, Pierce is averaging 20.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg and 3.8 apg. Those numbers can't compare with the "Big Four" of James, Wade, Bryant and Paul.

That doesn't even compare favorably to Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitzki or Brandon Roy, Or Al Jefferson. Or Devin Harris. Or Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh. No, in the fantasy world Pierce is NOT an MVP candidate.

But that doesn't mean he's not a great player or a great clutch shooter. If the game were on the line, I'd want Kobe to take the last shot, but if I couldn't get Kobe then Pierce would be the next guy on my list.
