Garrett Jones has hit nine home runs in his last 16 games.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
Are you desperately looking for an outfielder to fill a void in your lineup?
How about if I found one who is hitting .333 over the last 21 days with nine home runs in his last 16 games.
His name is Garrett Jones and he's current starring in the Pittsburgh Pirates outfield. Jones just came to the "big club' on July 1st (replacing Eric Hinske) and has been pounding the ball since day one. He is slugging at a .821 rate and has an OPS of 1.199.
Of course that wouldn't do you any good if he was already on someone's roster, but the good news is that he's only owned in about 25% of all leagues.
Jones had a "cup of coffee" with the Minnesota Twins in 2007, but this year he's a more mature hitter.
He batted .307 at AAA Indianapolis with 12 HRs and 49 RBIs in 72 games before getting the call. That after leading the International League in total bases in 2008.
The Pirates start a tough road trip to Arizona and San Francisco, but if he can get through those games, Jones will have 10 games at home and three in Colorado.
He certainly can't be expected to keep this pace up for the entire season, but if you're looking for a temporary fix, he should certainly be near the top of your wish list.
