Description: Columbus goaltender Curtis McElhinney picked up his third career shutout Friday against Minnesota.
Insight: The journeyman netminder was pushed into starting duty following Sergei Bobrovsky's groin injury. He's 2-3-1 with a 2.02 GAA and a .932 SV% this season but isn't likely to maintain his production.
Description: Oilers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov has been placed on the injured reserve.
Insight: He'll miss at least the next two games. Bryzgalov is 1-1-0 with a 2.12 GAA and .939 SV% in his first season with the Oilers. Devan Dubnyk gave up six goal on Tuesday so the team could opt to trot out recently recalled Jason LaBarbera (1-3-0, 3.69 GAA, .858 SV%).
Description: Columbus netminder Sergei Bobrovsky has a strained groin and will miss the next 4-5 weeks, according to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.
Insight: Bobrovsky suffered the injury Tuesday against Tampa Bay. The 2012-13 Vezina Trophy winner has gone just 10-11-2 with a 2.72 GAA and a .909 SV% this season, but he's still a big loss for fantasy owners and the Blue Jackets. Curtis McElhinney will fill in between the pipes.
Description: The Rangers inked goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to a seven-year, $59.5 million contract extension on Wednesday. SOURCE: NESN
Insight: Lundqvist was going to be a free agent after the season. You could argue he's been the best goaltender in hockey over the last half-decade. Lundqvist will be 39 by the time his contract expires.
Description: Toronto netminder Jonathan Bernier will be happy to see November go. He allowed at least four goals in each of his last three starts during the month.
Insight: James Reimer isn't really playing well either -- he gave up nine goals on 50 shots over his last two starts. Bernier is still the No. 1 guy, but he should be benched in fantasy leagues until he rights the ship.
Description: The Devils beat the Sabres 1-0 Saturday night behind Cory Schneider's 15 saves.
Insight: Schneider had to face just 37 SOG while picking up a win in each of the last two days. New Jersey is getting fantastic goalie play from both Schneider and Martin Brodeur right now, so fantasy owners cannot expect the division of labor to change in Schneider's favor.
Description: Devils goalie Cory Schneider will start Saturday against Buffalo.
Insight: Schneider faced just 18 shots and stopped 16 in a 5-2 win at Carolina Friday night, and he'll get back-to-back starts for the first time since Oct. 22 and 24. Schneider is 3-5-1 with a 1.89 GAA and a .923 SV% in 11 starts this season.
Description: Wings goalie Jimmy Howard produced his second shutout of the season on Friday.
Insight: It was a nice bounceback effort for Howard (29 saves) after losing seven in a row. It might take more than one game for Howard to get back into the good graces of fantasy owners but at least it's a start.
Description: Nashville goalie Marek Mazanec continued his recent stretch of dominance with a 19-save shutout Wednesday at Columbus.
Insight: The 22-year-old Mazanec has run away with Nashville's starting job over the last 10 days. He's gone 5-1 with a 1.34 GAA and a .955 SV% over his last six starts and should be added in all leagues.
Description: Tampa Bay goaltender Ben Bishop left Tuesday's morning skate after being hit in the hand with a shot. Coach Jon Cooper said he believed Bishop is OK, and Bishop said the same. SOURCE: tampabay.com
Insight: Anders Lindback will start Wednesday, though he was already scheduled to make the start prior to Bishop's injury.
Description: The Hurricanes have released goalie Rick DiPietro. SOURCE: GoCheckers.com
Insight: They signed him to a minor league contract about a month ago. In five games for AHL Charlotte, the veteran logged a 5.18 GAA. It's unlikely DiPietro, a player whose contract might be more famous than he is, will ever play in the NHL again.
Description: Detroit coach Mike Babcock stood behind Jimmy Howard as his No. 1 goaltender on Tuesday, according to detroitnews.com. "Let's be clear, we'll go as far as Howie takes us," Babcock said. "He's an elite goalie who it hasn't gone as good as he'd like to lately. We'll give him a breather to work with Jimmy (Bedard, Red Wings goaltender coach)."
Insight: Backup Jonas Gustavsson, who is 5-0-1 with a 2.35 GAA and a .926 SV%, will start Wednesday against the Bruins. Howard hasn't won in his last seven starts and is 5-7-6 with a 2.72 GAA and a .908 SV%. He has his difficulties early last season as well before finishing strong, so he's worth holding.
Description: Rangers goalie Cam Talbot earned his second straight shutout Saturday against Nashville.
Insight: He stopped all 17 shots that came his way. It's too bad that Talbot plays for New York, a team that already employs Vezina Trophy winner Henrik Lundqvist as its starting goaltender. Talbot could be a top fantasy netminder if he played almost anywhere else.
Description: Devils goalie Martin Brodeur will defend the net Saturday at San Jose.
Insight: Brodeur started off slow and looked to be clearly behind Cory Schneider on the depth chart but he's been absolutely on fire. He has won seven of his eight appearances since Oct. 26 and is back in a 50-50 split with Schneider.
Description: Rangers backup goaltender Cam Talbot will start at Nashville Saturday.
Insight: Talbot, a 26-year-old rookie, has been excellent since taking over for Martin Biron as Henrik Lundqvist's backup. He's won four straight games and is 4-1-0 with a 1.58 GAA and a .943 SV%. He has a strong matchup Saturday and is a safe streaming option.
Description: After Viktor Fasth suffered a lower-body injury in pre-game warmups Friday night, Jonas Hiller started in net and came away with a 65-minute, 31-save shutout against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Fasth just missed 14 games with a lower-body injury. It's unclear if he aggravated the same injury or suffered a new one. The Ducks reportedly have talked about trading Hiller to the Nashville Predators, according to espn.com, but they'll hold off on that after Fasth's injury.
Description: Avalanche netminder Semyon Varlamov has been charged with one count of misdemeanor third-degree assault. SOURCE: Denver Post
Insight: Varlamov allegedly assaulted his girlfriend at their Denver home on Oct. 30. He's scheduled to appear in Denver County court on Dec. 2. The goalie has gone 11-5-0 with a 2.23 GAA and a .931 SV% this season, though he is 4-4-0 with a 2.74 GAA and a .916 SV% since his arrest.
Description: Ducks goalie Viktor Fasth will start Friday against the Lightning.
Insight: Fasth returned from a month-long absence last Friday and has allowed five goals in his last two starts. This will be his third start in the last four games. The team is reportedly shopping Jonas Hiller to the Nashville Predators, which would open up the starting job for Fasth and the backup spot for Frederik Andersen, who went 6-1-0 with a 1.66 GAA and a .943 SV% when Fasth was out.
