The Islanders began the season with a shootout win at New Jersey on Friday
before losing in a shootout the following night against visiting Columbus. On
Tuesday, New York will be hosting the Coyotes for the first time since the
clubs met on Long Island on Dec. 18, 2010. Phoenix won that meeting 4-3 in a
shootout and has claimed two in a row against the Islanders after taking a 5-1
decision in Arizona on Jan. 7, 2012.
New York held a 2-0 lead in Saturday's tilt against the Blue Jackets, but Mark
Letestu and Nick Foligno scored third-period goals for Columbus to send the
game to overtime. The game was eventually decided on a shootout tally by
Columbus forward Cam Atkinson.
Lubomir Visnovsky had a goal and an assist for the Islanders, while Matt
Moulson also lit the lamp. John Tavares added two helpers in the setback,
giving New York's captain his first two points of the season.
Evgeni Nabokov turned aside 27-of-29 shots through regulation and overtime
before allowing the decisive goal to Atkinson.

After meeting the Coyotes on Tuesday, New York will head out on the road for

Phoenix is hoping to rebound from a poor effort in its last game on Saturday
when it takes the ice this evening. After posting a 4-1 home win over the New

"We didn't execute well," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said. "We got out-battled
on loose pucks. When you don't have the puck ever you're chasing the game."
After giving up three goals on 18 shots in the first period, Mike Smith made
32 saves over the final two stanzas and finished with 47 saves. That effort
wasn't enough for the Coyotes, who received their only goal on a wrist shot
from Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
Ekman-Larsson did suffer an upper body injury in Saturday's game and is
questionable for Tuesday's contest. Derek Morris also could miss this
evening's game with an upper body injury of his own.
