(3) Atlanta Thrashers (0-2) at (6) New York Rangers (2-0), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - After winning the first two tests of this series on the road, the New York Rangers will try for another victory as they host the Atlanta Thrashers tonight at Madison Square Garden in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

The Rangers have posted a pair of one-goal triumphs, beating the Thrashers, 4-3, in Game 1 and following that with a 2-1 win in the second test on Saturday.

On Saturday, Brendan Shanahan scored the game-winning goal with 4:01 remaining in the third period to lift the Blueshirts to a win and give them the two-game advantage in the best-of-seven series.

Sean Avery scored and also assisted on the game-winning tally for the Rangers, It marks the first time since 1983 that New York won the first two games of a playoff series when on the road.

Henrik Lundqvist was spectacular between the pipes for the Rangers. He stopped 27-of-28 shots, including 11 in the final period.

Ilya Kovalchuk had the lone tally for the Thrashers, while Johan Hedberg finished with 37 saves.

In a surprise move, Atlanta went with Hedberg after starting netminder Kari Lehtonen didn't perform well enough on Thursday night to stay on the job. Hedberg had started just 16 regular-season games, and only two of his nine wins came against teams that reached the playoffs.

The Thrashers are still seeking their first-ever playoff victory, as this is the franchise's first trip to the postseason.

New York was a respectable 21-15-5 in the Big Apple this year and ended the regular season with wins in five straight and eight of nine home contests.

Atlanta had an average 20-16-5 record as the visiting team this year.

Game 4 of this series is scheduled for Wednesday night at MSG.
