Final Score: Ottawa 3, Minnesota 0
St. Paul, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Robin Lehner stopped 27 shots to record his
first shutout of the season, as Ottawa took down Minnesota, 3-0, at Xcel
Kyle Turris posted a goal and assist, Clarke MacArthur and Erik Condra also
lit the lamp, with Erik Karlsson chipping in two helpers for the Senators,
winners in six of seven.
Darcy Kuemper couldn't maintain momentum from a shutout victory against
Nashville on Sunday, allowing all three goals on 32 shots as the Wild lost for
the second time in their last three.
MacArthur cranked home a power-play goal off a cross-ice dish from Turris with
6:54 to play in the first period. Ottawa's defense limited Minnesota to three
shots and Lehner was equal to all.
"It was something that we had worked on in practice," Turris said of the play
that produced MacArthur's goal. "It worked well and it's a good power play
booster to get one on an entry."
He made 10 saves in the second period to maintain the one-score margin, and
his offense rewarded the effort.
Condra gave the Sens a 2-0 advantage just shy of the six-minute mark of the
third period. He picked up a loose puck inside his own zone after Wild
defenseman Marco Scandella's stick shattered, raced the length of the ice and
beat Kuemper through a small space between the pads.
Ryan Suter was called for tripping with 4:17 remaining, and Turris made him
pay at the end of the advantage by beating Kuemper from the left circle with
2:22 on the clock.
"Execution just wasn't really there all night long," Minnesota head coach Mike
Yeo admitted. "We weren't really moving our feet, weren't attacking, weren't
crisp with our passing."
Lehner's only other NHL whitewash occurred on Feb. 28, 2012, a 32-save, 1-0
victory over the Boston Bruins ... Minnesota was blanked for just the third
time all season and for the first time at home.
