Final Score: New Jersey 1, Dallas 0
Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Ryder registered the game's only goal
and Cory Schneider notched a 26-save shutout, as the New Jersey Devils downed
the Dallas Stars, 1-0, on Thursday at Prudential Center.
Ryder scored his 15th of the season in the second period to provide Schneider
with all the support he would need, as the 27-year-old netminder turned away
all comers to secure his third shutout of the season and 12th of his career.
"I had to be good at the moments I had to be good, but I thought, as a group,
we had to earn this 1-0 win as a team," Schneider said.
The victory snapped New Jersey's three-game slide and sent the Stars to a
fourth consecutive setback, despite a solid 33-save effort from goaltender
Following a scoreless first frame, New Jersey jumped on top just over eight
minutes into the middle stanza thanks to some good work behind the Dallas net
from Travis Zajac.
After winning the puck, Zajac wheeled around just below the right circle and
centered the puck for Ryder, who buried a one-timer from between the circles
for a 1-0 lead at 8:17.
Dallas had a prime opportunity to pull even after Stephen Gionta was called
for a high-sticking double-minor at 14:56, but Schneider came up with a number
of big stops on the extended man-advantage to maintain New Jersey's slim lead.
"We gave them a lot of chances in the second period," Dallas center Tyler
Seguin said. "It wasn't very good at all."
Schneider capped the shutout by turning aside nine shots over the final 20
