Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - The Florida Panthers and veteran forward Scott Gomez agreed to terms on a one-year contract Wednesday.
Gomez's production has waned in recent seasons, leading the Montreal Canadiens to rid themselves of his high cap number via a buyout prior to the shortened 2013 campaign.
The 33-year-old wound up joining San Jose and totaled two goals and 13 assists in 39 games with the Sharks.
"Scott is a veteran center who adds further depth to the middle of our line- up," said Panthers general manager Dale Tallon. "He is a quick and skilled forward, with a wealth of hockey experience including two Stanley Cup titles, who will be a leader for our younger players."
Gomez won a Cup as a rookie with New Jersey in 2000 and another three years later with the same franchise that selected him in the first round (27th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
The Alaska native has registered 171 goals and 530 assists in 941 career games with the Devils, New York Rangers, Canadiens and Sharks. He has added 29 goals and 101 points in 149 playoff contests.
