Arlington, VA (Sports Network) - The Washington Capitals have signed forward Troy Brouwer to a three-year contract extension worth $11 million.
Brouwer, entering the final season of a two-year deal he signed in July 2011 as a free agent, will earn $3.6 million in 2013-14, $3.65 million in 2014-15 and $3.75 million in 2015-16.
The 27-year-old Vancouver native joined the Caps last year after spending five seasons with Chicago, winning a Stanley Cup title with the Blackhawks in the spring of 2010.
"We are pleased to sign Troy Brouwer to a contract extension," said Capitals general manager George McPhee in a statement. "Troy is a physical and versatile power forward who can play both wings and who has averaged close to 20 goals in the past three seasons. He is a Stanley Cup winner and a great leader. We are thrilled that he will continue his career in Washington for many years to come."
Brouwer notched 18 goals and 15 assists in 82 games during his first season in Washington. He added a pair of goals and two assists in 14 playoff games.
In 320 career NHL games with Chicago and Washington, Brouwer has 67 goals and 69 assists for 136 points.
