Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday named Jason Licht as their new general manager.
Licht had been with the Arizona Cardinals the last two seasons, serving as vice president of player personnel this past season. He will be introduced at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.
The Bucs fired coach Greg Schiano and general manager Mark Dominik one day after the team finished a 4-12 season. Lovie Smith was hired as Tampa Bay's new coach earlier this month.
Licht has nearly two decades of scouting and player personnel experience in the NFL and has worked alongside six head coaches who have led a team to a Super Bowl.
"Jason is a seasoned NFL personnel veteran who has worked with some of the most accomplished individuals in professional football while contributing to success in New England, Philadelphia and Arizona," Buccaneers co-chairman Joel Glazer said in a statement.
Glazer said Licht's personnel background will complement Smith's coaching philosophy.
"We look forward to working with Jason and Lovie as we set the foundation and chart the course for the future of Buccaneers football," he said.
Despite not being able to pick his head coach, Licht will reportedly have control of the draft and other personnel decisions.
