Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was held out of practice for the second straight time on Thursday, despite reports that he will be ready to go in this Sunday's contest against the Philadelphia Eagles which will decide the NFC East champion.
Earlier in the week, ESPN.com reported that Romo needed surgery for a herniated disk and will miss the remainder of the season. Romo received an epidural injection to relieve pain in the affected area, an injury which occurred early in a 24-23 victory over the Washington Redskins last Sunday.
Backup Kyle Orton saw first-team reps, and Jon Kitna, signed Wednesday as extra insurance under center, also took some snaps.
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is taking things day by day, saying that he wants his presumed starter to practice at some point prior to the game, but since Romo has played a lot of football already this season, he will have a little more leeway regarding his health for a potential return to the field.
Wide receiver Dez Bryant was limited in practice for the second straight day due to a back injury which has troubled him all season, but Garrett did not seem concerned for his status for practice the rest of the week or for Sunday.
Linebackers Sean Lee (neck) and Ernie Sims (hip/groin) did not take the field, but defensive ends DeMarcus Ware (back), George Selvie (back) and Jarius Wynn (chest), linebacker DeVonte Holloman (hip) and defensive tackle Jason Hatcher (neck) all took full reps.
