Englewood, CO (Sports Network) - Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller was arrested Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear in court for a traffic citation.
The arrest was first reported by KMGH-TV in Denver.
Court records show that the 24-year-old Miller was arrested for not appearing at his court hearing on a charge from last October when he was cited for careless driving, driving without a license and no proof of insurance.
Records show that he was scheduled for arraignment on December 31, the day after the Broncos' final regular season game in Denver. The arrest warrant was issued two days later but currently, there is no word why he was not arrested sooner.
"We have been aware of the matter involving Von Miller's failure to appear in court for traffic violations," the Broncos issued in a statement. "It was reported to the league earlier this week and is being handled through the legal system."
He was booked and released on Sunday on a $1,000 bond.
Miller is already facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. His representatives were scheduled to meet with league officials Thursday to appeal the suspension.
According to the Denver Post, George Atallah, assistant executive director of the NFL Players Association, said that his case is not about testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
The league's drug policy indicates that a player in the intervention program can be found in violation for missing a test, repeatedly showing up late for testing or counseling, altering the sample or demonstrating behavioral issues.
