Golden State Warriors (48-30) at Los Angeles Lakers (25-53), 10:30 p.m.
(SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors attempt to punch their ticket
to the postseason when they visit the Los Angeles Lakers Friday night.
The Warriors could have clinched a playoff spot on Thursday versus the Denver
Nuggets, but dropped a 100-99 decision. Kenneth Faried buried a jump shot with
less than a second remaining to lift the Nuggets.
Stephen Curry had 24 points and Klay Thompson added 21 for Golden State, which
had won two straight and seven of 10 games.
"There are a lot of reasons why this is a terrible feeling in the locker
room," Curry said of his team failing to clinch a playoff spot. "We could have
taken care of a playoff spot, taken care of home court like we need to, going
forward, in the playoffs. I don't know if I'd call it a setback, but it's
definitely not how we envisioned the night going."
The Warriors are sixth in the Western Conference, just a game ahead of Phoenix
and Dallas. They will also visit Portland on this quick trip and are 22-16
away from home.
Los Angeles has lost five in a row and is coming off Tuesday's 145-130 loss to
the Houston Rockets.
Nick Young scored 32 points off the bench, Jodie Meeks added 30 and Ryan Kelly
ended with 18 for the Lakers, who shot 46 percent and are winless in the last
three games at home.
Lakers veteran Steve Nash passed Mark Jackson for third on the NBA's all-time
assists list with five helpers. He finished with one made 3-pointer.
"All of this is beyond my aspirations and wildest dreams. To be in that
company is phenomenal," Nash said of the assist mark.
L.A. still has Memphis, Utah and San Antonio on the docket.
Golden State is 2-1 against the Lakers this season, but Los Angeles has won 20
of the last 24 games in this series. The Warriors have lost 11 in a row and 20
of the past 21 games at the Lakers.
