Miami Heat (24-11) at Utah Jazz (20-19), 9 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Miami Heat finally recorded a win on their current road
trip and will shoot for back-to-back victories when they invade Salt Lake City
Monday night to take on the Utah Jazz.
The defending champion Heat handed the Sacramento Kings a 128-99 setback on
Saturday and received a big contribution from Mario Chalmers. Chalmers tied a
franchise record by connecting on 10 3-pointers (10-of-13) en route to a
career-high 34 points. Miami made 17-of-37 from downtown and shot 56.3 percent
for the game.
"I knew what the record was and I just wanted to go in there and try and beat
the record," said Chalmers, who tied Brian Shaw's mark from 1993.
Miami's 128 points were a season high. LeBron James had 20 points, seven
assists, five rebounds and two blocks, while Chris Bosh finished with 16
points for the Heat, who are 1-2 on the road trip and 8-8 as the guest.
The Heat still have Golden State and the Los Angeles Lakers remaining on the
road swing, and are 4-3 in the last seven games overall. In milestone news,
Miami veteran Ray Allen is eight points away from tying Robert Parish (23,334)
for 21st on the NBA's all-time scoring list.
Heat forward Shane Battier (hamstring) is doubtful Monday and has missed two
straight games. He hasn't scored in his last two games played.
Meanwhile, the Jazz will begin a three-game homestand Monday versus Miami,
Cleveland and Washington, and are 11-4 as the host.
Utah has won five of its last seven games, including Saturday's 90-87 triumph
against the Detroit Pistons in the finale of a three-game road trip (2-1). Al
Jefferson had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Randy Foye added 17 points and Paul
Millsap chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds in the win.
The Jazz had a 25-11 advantage in the third quarter and have won a league-best
10 times when trailing by 10 or more points in a game this season.
"We played great defense," said Jefferson. "We talked to each other, we helped
each other, and then all of a sudden (Detroit's) shots weren't coming so
Jazz forward Marvin Williams sat out a third straight game with a right knee
injury. Guard Jamaal Tinsley (illness) is listed as questionable Monday.
Utah suffered a 105-89 loss to the Heat on Dec. 22 this season as James poured
in 30 points to go with nine rebounds and seven assists. The Heat are 13-4 in
the previous 17 meetings between the teams.
