El Segundo, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Lakers have waived guard Kendall Marshall, the team announced Friday.
A first-round pick of the Phoenix Suns in 2012, Marshall started 45 games in Los Angeles' injury-depleted backcourt last season and averaged 8.0 points and a team-best 8.8 assists over 54 contests overall.
The former North Carolina standout, whose contract was not guaranteed, became expendable when the Lakers acquired point guard Jeremy Lin from the Houston Rockets earlier this week.
Marshall played in 48 games with the Suns as a rookie before being traded to Washington as part of a four-player deal this past October. He was promptly waived by the Wizards and signed with the Delaware 87ers in the NBA Developmental League prior to joining the Lakers on Dec. 20.
