(Sports Network) - The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to a one-year contract with free agent point guard Shaun Livingston, multiple sources reported on Saturday.
According to the New York Daily News, Livingston will sign for the veteran's minimum salary to serve as the primary backup to three-time All-Star Deron Williams.
Livingston is coming off a solid 49-game run with the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, in which the oft-injured 27-year-old averaged 7.2 points, 3.6 assists and 2.5 rebounds while shooting 50.7 percent from the field.
Taken with the fourth overall selection of the 2004 draft by the Los Angeles Clippers out of high school, Livingston's career has been marred by several knee injuries that included a serious dislocation that caused him to miss the entire 2007-08 campaign. He played in just 48 games while spending time with three different teams the following two seasons.
The well-traveled veteran has averaged 6.7 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds over 390 career games with the Clippers, Miami, Oklahoma City, Washington, Charlotte, Milwaukee and Cleveland.
Brooklyn was in need of an experienced reserve at the point guard position with C.J. Watson, last season's understudy to Williams, having reportedly signed a two-year contract with the Indiana Pacers earlier in the week.
