Arizona Diamondbacks (35-49) at Pittsburgh Pirates (42-40), 7:05 p.m.
Probable Starting Pitchers: Arizona - Wade Miley (3-6, 4.78) Pittsburgh - Jeff Locke (1-1, 3.74)
(SportsNetwork.com) - Wade Miley takes aim at his first win since May 10 on Tuesday when the Arizona Diamondbacks start a three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.
Miley hasn't received a decision his last four times out, but is 0-3 with a 4.74 ERA in his last eight starts. He was lucky to escape with a no-decision last Tuesday against Cleveland, which battered him for five runs (4 earned) and eight hits in four innings of his team's 9-8, 14-inning win.
In June alone, he allowed seven home runs and 16 earned runs in 29 2/3 innings.
Miley has faced the Pirates four times and is 2-1 against them with a 2.10 ERA.
Arizona managed a series win over the San Diego Padres this weekend, but was denied a sweep with a 2-1 loss on Sunday. Miguel Montero brought home Arizona's lone run and David Peralta supplied two hits for the D-backs, who still sit in the cellar of the National League West, just 1 1/2 games back of the Padres.
Diamondbacks starter Mike Bolsinger (1-4) was tagged with the loss after giving up just two runs on three hits and four walks over six innings.
"He gave us a good effort," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said of his starter. "I don't have any complaints about him."
Pittsburgh, meanwhile, continues to climb out of an early season hole and enters this series having won seven of its last nine after taking three of four from the New York Mets this past weekend. On Sunday, Pedro Alvarez belted a two-run homer and Edinson Volquez struck out seven in the Pirates' 5-2 win.
The Pirates were without outfielder Andrew McCutchen on Sunday, as manager Clint Hurdle opted to rest the NL's reigning MVP. McCutchen's 54 walks this season are nine shy of the club record before the All-Star break shared by Arky Vaughan (1936) and Ralph Kiner (1950, 1952).
Getting the call for Pittsburgh on Tuesday will be lefty Jeff Locke, who is 1-1 with a 3.74 ERA. Locke earned the win his last time out versus Tampa Bay, as he gave up three runs and eight hits in 7 1/3 frames. He had allowed two runs in six innings of his previous start.
"I'm just throwing strikes," Locke said after his last outing. "That's all you can attribute it to. One change I've tried to make is to try to get ahead more in the count. You don't have to nibble so much. Put them behind, challenge them a little more and keep the ball on the ground."
Locke has only faced the Diamondbacks twice, but has given up eight runs in just five innings against them.
Arizona, which split six games with the Bucs a year ago, is a major league- worst 6-12 against left-handed starters this season.
